  2. I hate to thread police but come on @Sports_Freak and @chasfh Why do we have to do yet another Erod rehash today of all days!! Lots of people are coming here for updates and meaningful thoughts on things that matter today. if you insist on battling this out then at least take it back to last years trade deadline thread instead of getting everyone bogged down in this bs.

  4. But you remembered very clearly that VP Kamala Harris was the DA in the Smollet case.

  5. Generally speaking, not specific to the UAW or auto industry, and not even to unions.... but I've evolved to the point where I don't hold it against an employee for not going "all out". I can see doing it if you work for a smaller firm, maybe family run, where you might have more "ownership" or a relationship with the owners at least. But for a corporation that is accountable only to shareholders that treat employees like numbers... I don't see the benefit of an employee busting their ass at maximum capacity for their benefit because unless it's specifically spelled out they won't reward you. Especially when it comes to physical jobs. That kind of work wears on you over time. When you are 50 and have arthritis in your hands and a bad back.... they're not going to remember you. They aren't paying you more than they said they would so don't give them more than what they expect of you. Save the over work for when you are volunteering your time for other things like kids events, church functions, etc. That's when it's needed.

  6. Honestly, I don't mind seeing a sharp turn toward conservatism, even if it's a knee-jerk reaction to the change of candidates to Kamala Harris. It's true that we do have a strain of groupthink here that in fairness makes it difficult for hard-right conservatives to stand fast against, although the groupthink about the current Trumpublicans is fairly earned. But for me, it has been the relentless, mean-spirited, intellectually-dishonest, barely on-topic bomb-throwing that finally wore me down. It's the same reason I bugged out of the Gaza thread.

  8. I would rather give Sweeney a chance than keep turning to Kreidler. Is Kenta going back to the rotation now? My guess would be yes. When is Olson going on the 60 ? Maybe this team needs to evaluate their training staff. The team seems to be falling apart by the day. Harris better have a better offseason than last year. Seriously, what is the rotation now? Skubal Bullpen Day Sammons Montero Bullpen Day This year is such a failure.........especially having to watch KC pass us. This is still on Avila but not much longer, this is the last year we can pin it on him, but he had 2 1/1 picks and they are both looking like busts now. Torkelson looks like Eric Munson Carpenter with the lingering back thing, just like Andy Dirks, who never played again Greene hurt......again MIze hurt..........again Manning falling apart Kenta being a gas can Javy checked out, but team is too scared to just pay him off and for some unknown reason only invested in a SS at the trade deadline. Bummer Summer for 8 years in a row in Tigertown. Other teams fell after we did and have now passed us on the way up.

  11. Remember in Spring training when the Tigers had too many starting pitchers? What were they going to do with all of them?

  12. bottom line we are a worse MLB team as of 6:00pm than we were this morning and no-one brought on board has a high probability of making any MLB impact. Now TBH, they were going to be worse once Flahery left at the end of the season anyway, but I'm not sure anything in these returns is necessarily better than a comp pick. Like I said before, teams like the Tigers end up persuading themselves they have to make these trades while the buying teams laugh all the way to the playoffs.

  13. Someone posted that it seems Harris has targets he wants to go after and then zeroes in on them, unlike AA who enjoyed more lottery tickets. I'm still willing to trust Harris with Malloy, Lee, flipping Flaherty/Canha/Lorenzen/Kelly, Ibanez, Vierling. He has improved the minor league system, scouting and coaching, I'm willing to give him more time to see what he can develop in a year or two. He infused more young talent at this deadline and his first draft is already filtering into A+ with teenagers.

  17. I see an individual being their true self. Something we should all aspire to. When I look at Trump, I see a malignant narcissist trying to hide his deep rooted insecurities and his lack of real emotions and empathy. It's more scary than weird to me but he does not think like the average person. More like a serial killer.

  21. I believe we may have punched above our weight with that pick. McGonigle’s talent and performance so far suggests he may be better than the average #37 overall.

  22. The level or political support will work its way out in the wash. That result has nothing to do with the disingenuousness of rhetorically conflating proposals that are clearly an effort toward publicly supported government reform that can be honestly debated, with the actions of a tyrant like Maduro to consolidate strong man rule.

  24. The Tigers should have a lot of money this off-season. Chafin and Flaherty were both free agent signings and Canha had a team option picked up. (I think). And none of the players we received were/are huge payroll guys. Harris is building right...getting talent depth. And collecting shortstops...lol

  25. Sweeny as our new McStinky that hopefully is better ? Liranzo has power which is valuable, a switch hitter which is plus and a good first baseman that can also catch. Seems better than a supplemental draft pick. Not sure if it's as good as what Toronto got for Kuchi-san. Maybe Jack's back lessened the take. "feels" like Harris wanted something else that evaporated and he pivoted to plan B at the last minute. But I don't know. Just guessing here.

  28. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving … One of the things I was really worried about after the debate was that Trump was taking some sort of high road by not piling on Biden and instead letting Biden implode on his own, and that would bring reasonable swing voters and fence-sitters into the fold. But now with Kamala on board, it’s been just a complete 180. Trump is not only back to his unhinged self, but now he’s really going off the deep end, not bothering to keep his anti-anyone-not-WASPy-man-ism in check at all anymore. The worse he thinks it’s going for him, the worse a candidate he gets. If he keeps going on the trajectory he’s now on, not only will he lose his election , but the Democrats will mop the floor with the Republicans in the House, and D might end up keeping the Senate as well despite an historically unfavorable election map. It’s freaking amazing in the best possible way. What I’m tying myself into knots over is trying to figure out just how the Supreme Court is going to step in and hand him the presidency. It might be as simple as they rule on an arcane election fraud issue in his favor—someone here once said the justices care too much about their legacy to do anything so crass, but at least five of them owe their careers to Trump and/or don’t give a shït about what liberals think their legacy should be—or it might be in some way no one can even imagine today. Either way, if we think SCOTUS is just going to sit on their hands and allow democracy to simply happen in this election, then I believe they don’t understand this particular Court.

  34. Making a bad deal by "accepting" low returns only hinders all future trades. It's better to hold your ground and establish an understanding with your peers that you won't be a sap. That might be playing today as well. Harris has his desired return for Captain jack and won't settle. It might suck two years in a row but eventually teams will bargain in good faith instead of trying to rip off the new guy.

  38. especially since Harris was carrying out her job and following an established set of rules and policies... nobody made Trump get involved but hey... an opportunity to smear some black people... you don't have to ask twice for his help on that. That's fun to him.

  42. let's try to define what 'trust' a politician means. Do I trust that I have a pretty good idea what Trump will do in a given situation - yes. I might even go as far as to say that at this point I think i have a better idea of Trump will do in a given situation than Harris. The problem is that I also "trust" that the odds are overwhelming that Trump's response will be worse for America and Americans than whatever Harris does even if I was less able to predict exactly what it was going to be.
