  1. Christianity is a bogus religion because the Catholic Church covered up sexual abuse and we constantly see cases where pastors commit sexual crimes. do I have that logic right? How is it different?

  6. I know the campaigns fairly well. Gettysburg is one of my favorite places in the World because its one of the definitive places where Democracy stood at a precipice. You could make a quick list: Gettysburg Dunkirk Midway Places where the entire Western and now global idea of Democracy stood at the brink and forces who were entirely on their back foot made a decisive stand in two cases and survived by the skin of their teeth in the other.

  9. I'm going after some antivaxxers on the book of faces tonight... Here's some capsules if you want to copy and paste (well, except some of the ones I refer to my age). To the people touting RFK's "making America Healthy," this will be the first of 14 comments over the next few days detailing diseases that vaccines prevent, not including the one many of you likely deny existed that shut the world down a few years ago. First up, his Hepatitis B, a very deadly disease for children, acquired from mothers at child birth. Only 5% of infants or 30% of children who acquire it survive, and several others have lifelong liver damage. Vaccines largely wiped it out in developed countries, and any attempt to "make America healthy again" by removing vaccines threatens to bring Hep B back into our lives. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatitis_B I'm too old to have been inoculated against this one. Rotavirus is transferred, basically when infants eat poop. It basically causes severe diarrhea for children, and has been estimated to have killed about 150,000 children as of five years ago. The vaccine was introduced about 15 years ago. In turn, hospitalizations and deaths from this virus have been significantly reduced in that time. Not nearly as severe as others, but this is another win for the jabs. What's interesting looking up all these diseases is the work done by the CDC et. al. to discover them and sequence them. Will that continue after those agencies are slashed and dashed in an attempt to make America "healthy" again? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotavirus# Diphtheria is one I'm glad my parents were smart enough to vaccinate me from. It's a bacteria that causes some severe build-up in your throat. Kills about 5-10% of children who get it, but it's a good thing there's a 100 year-old vaccine to keep them from getting and spreading it! Cases have dropped significantly over the years thanks to that. And adults, get your TDaP booster to keep up immunity against this bugger. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diphtheria Ever get lockjaw? If not, it's probably because your parents got you vaccinated against Tetanus before people like RFK started brainwashing people not to do it. It must be nice to not have to live in fear of any rusty nail thinking it will cause your face to spasm and lock your jaw up. 7% chance it kills you. Let's Make America Healthy again and bring Tetanus back! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetanus Pertussis is on the comeback thanks to the efforts of RFK. Better known as whooping cough, this one is a very contagious doozy that takes over your body, killing roughly 20% of adults who catch it. Don't forget your TDaP booster to protect yourself against this and the previous two. It may be wise to get them now before RFK makes America Healthy Again and takes these off the market. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whooping_cough Haemophilus Influenzae, maybe on your vaccine record as Bacillus influenzae causes pneumonia, meningitis, and blood infections in children. Severe causes cause retardation or deafness. The 1990 vaccine reduced cases in a big way. If you can hear RFK's raspy voice lying about vaccines, it's probably because your parents got you this jab and protected you against this disease that can end your ability to hear. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haemophilus_influenzae More to come...

  14. 4th win came January 15th last season. Ivey & Cade are the 4th-ranked scoring backcourt Pistons at 4-6, a tick away from 5-5 after an 0-4 start Monty Williams really sucked.

  15. It also looks like he's getting a ton of chances that teammates aren't capitalizing on too. He seems like he's really stepping up this season, it is great to see.

  18. Cleveland already has 5 games where they have scored 130+. They had 4 all of last season. Golden State has the leagues second best defense. Cleveland scored 136 against the Warriors last night. They had 83 at halftime. Cleveland is 10-0.

  19. He tied Thomas last night for career triple doubles at 5. Grant Hill has 29 total and Cade tied his record last night of 3 consecutive triple doubles in a row. Another one Sunday would set a new Pistons record.

  20. He picked up one of the better offensive players in the league at 40 feet. Denied the 3PT attempt and stayed with Young to the hoop to contest the shot. Stewart rotating is how defense is done, he is supposed to be there for the contest to take away the middle. That is why Ivey is fading Young to his left, so there is only one angle to the hoop and it gives Stewart a shot to block it. Even without Stewart, Ivey is there to contest what would be a hard shot to make. That is all you can ask for when guarding someone as talented as Young. If we want to nitpick, we should talk about Cade. Ideally you want him to slide down inside of Okongwu to replace Stewart. But whatever, he got the block to recover.

  22. CNN hosted the first debate and decided the best thing to do was not fact check. And announce in advance they would not. Hilarious that a RW poster expects everyone to venerate CNN after 8 years of RW trashing of CNN. Which is just more hypocrisy

  23. I'm also making a list of other services to no longer use... I think it's easy enough to not buy from Tesla, lol. But Bezos owns and/or runs a whole list of companies (not just Prime but Whole Foods, Grubhub, Uber, etc). I know that my not buying from them won't change his world, but at least I won't add to it.

  25. From the secession convention to the end of the war North Carolina had three different governors. History is very interesting. Years ago I stumbled into a history class on the Civil War. It more than piqued my interest in history, particularly in North Carolina. Through years of family research I discovered that numerous ancestors of mine fought for NC in the war and several for the Union. So to answer your question, yes, the three NC Governors through that period were our governors. Just like Trump is your president. 😉

  27. I program computers for a living and i found Mastodon way too complicated to use. I liked post.news but they closed up. Im already anti zuck so no fb or threads or insta. Bluesky on its "following" tab has no algorithm to serve up content so if you want the experience that the feed updates with new content quickly you need to follow a lot of people. It is definitely very left leaning as well. A few weeks ago the pod save dudes called it a bunch of gen x complaining about NYTimes headlines and frankly that seems accurate LOL but that happens here tons too

  36. The answer is, no. I have read extensively on this war and unless there is something outside of my readings or otherwise, I never have seen anything that suggests the south had designs on expanding their boundaries. There was no plan to conquer states in the Union, at the outset. In defense of the southern states the armies did enter Union states. Jefferson Davis made a plea for peace with Lincoln prior to physical hostilities, likely not long after resigning the U.S. Senate. If someone knows of something I am interesting in hearing it.

  41. They can help fund it the way the Germans funded the holocaust: by seizing whatever undocumented immigrants’ assets they can. They know it’s not much and it definitely won’t cover the costs, but it would be more about points for style than actually funding the operation.
