  1. I think the Lions can run on this Bills defense.

  2. I put Sweeney in the Jung category - has some promise, but not certain enough where they would forego an upgrade.

  3. According to Packer fans, it should have been a turnover on downs since the holder's knee was down.

  4. Inept clueless imbeciles is only part of the story. Another part is embezzlement by corrupt actors on the inside. People tend to think everyone inside the government is inept or corrupt, but that's not true. The vast, vast majority of people who work for government are good, honest people who truly want to make a difference for the American people. It's just that stories of ineptitude and corruption are so pervasive in relation to their incidence, and the damage they do can be so vast, that it leads people to conclude the entire government is cooked. And that's why we have a high percentage of people who simply want to destroy it, and an entire political party whose power emanates from grooming those people.

  6. I’m not done with him and would be happy to keep him. However, For me he is an attractive trade chip that we can part with as his lefty hitting and more second base profile is already on the roster.

  7. This is very likely to be correct. If the Lions go 3-1 and the Eagles go 4-0, they'd both be 15-2, but the Lions would have the one-seed via tiebreaker based on conference record (if the Lions loss is to the Bills), or very likely based on strength of victory (if the Lions loss is to the Bears, 49ers, or Vikings). The Lions are currently at an NFC best 0.510 in that mark, while Philly is at 0.400. I'm not doing the math, but I doubt they can catch up even if we lost to the Vikings (which would improve that mark the most). If the Lions go 3-1 and the Vikings go 4-0, they'd both be 15-2, but the Lions would have the one-seed and division based on record against common opponents, because the Vikings lost to the Rams. If the Lions go 3-1 and both the Eagles and Vikings go 4-0, all three would be 15-2, but my understanding (though I am not positive) is that the divisional tie is determined first, then the postseason seeding tie. Which means that the Lions would win the tiebreaker against the Vikings, then win the tiebreaker against the Eagles, and that there would be no three-way tiebreaker to determine the one-seed. Credit to @lordstanley for doing a lot of this work earlier in the thread.

  8. I’ll take some credit for this victory. I walked by MSG a couple of weeks ago and I was wearing my Detroit (Tigers) hat. You’re all welcome.

  9. I’m not a doctor, but by all accounts it was a clean break and I haven’t heard of any concern that the bone is at risk for further injury. It seems the issue will be strength and conditioning. If he is cleared for practice during the playoffs nobody will be able to keep him out.

  11. Bad news: Vikings are going to win today Good news: I think this could be the Vikings’ last win of the season. Could see them losing any or all against Bears, Seahawks, Vikings, Lions.

  12. I don't disagree that we are not a good team right now and that there is no 1B star. But finding a 1A star is the hardest part of building a team. If we have that guy, that's a big deal. You can fill in the rest of the pieces as you go.

  13. Fun facts: Kim's OBP as a shortstop places him 11th out of 27 on this list. MLB average OBP during in the league since 2021 is .315. Kim's career OBP of .326 exceeds this. Kim's OBP the past two years is .351 and .330, so his trend is up, not down. Kim has already had seasons of 4.9 in 2022 and 5.8 in 2023, and his 2.6 bWAR last year during a season in which he was injured for 40 games is still (checks Tigers 2024 page to make sure) higher than any shortstop we currently have in the system. Signing Ha-Seong Kim to the one- or two-year deal he is projected to receive will not be enough to prevent us from signing Juan Soto. Counterpoint: Trey Sweeney's WAR in 2024 of 0.7 in 36 games and 119 PA is roughly the same WAR rate Kim's 2.6 was for 121 games and 470 PA. The $64 question at hand is, do we want to post up with Trey Sweeney for 2025 without undertaking any serious efforts to see whether we can obtain a more established, more predictable shortstop in the short term instead?

  16. The list of 2024 Tiger hitters with an OBP above .320 that also played on the IF is as follows: Mark Canha, Bligh Madris, and Jace Jung. That’s it, that’s the list. So if you want to look at just that aspect of his game, it’s an improvement over last season before factoring in the defense. I think he’s a good buy low candidate that is a solid hitter that can extend a lineup, and his base running/stealing is something that the Tigers could also use. He’s not Bregman or Adames as an overall talent. That’s fine. And I understand he may not be 100% to start the season. That’s fine. Give him a 2 year prove it deal which shouldn’t break the bank and it would allow to use capital for other needs. If he can put up his floor in 2025 and his ceiling in 2026, that buys a little time for Jung to get his stuff together in Toledo. He also becomes a viable RHH SS candidate if/when the Tigers cut bait on Baez.

I'm not sure we can say this with certainty but... https://bsky.app/profile/joncooper-us.bsky.social/post/3lcsghrnpes2m Jon Cooper ‪@joncooper-us.bsky.social‬ With the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, Tulsi Gabbard’s chance of being confirmed as Trump’s Director of National Intelligence has fallen to ZERO. The only question is whether the Syrian rebels will release the secret files on Tulsi before or after her confirmation hearing.

  20. It really comes down to a single factor, what do you think is more likely: 1. Lions fail to convert the 4th down 2. Packers drive 35 yards and kick a FG in 40 seconds. You can have your own opinion, but either choice is completely defensible.

  21. And the 2019-2022 drafts didn’t yield superstars at the top. The only person from near the top of those four drafts that could reach the level or Hedman or Stamkos is Jack Hughes picked #1 in 2019. #2 picks those 4 years were Kakko, Byfield, Beniers and Nemec. Seider-Raymond-Edvinsson-Kaspar is a better collection than that. Heck it might be better collection than #1 picks Jack Hughes-Lafreniere-Power-Slafkosky. So I can’t fault Yzerman for his 1st rounders, that’s one thing he seems to have gotten right.

  23. The amount of waste, by the military, government, and business (especially big business) is off the charts. It became this way due to inept clueless imbeciles who are bad at their job, and the only way to survive is to be a talented ass kisser because they work for more inept clueless people who don't know any better. They can't fix any of this stuff because the same idiots created the mess to begin with. And of course a whole bunch of money.

  26. i think so too. but its more a roster issue, imo. every move they made this offseason has backfired. every addition to the team has been bad (tarasenko, motte, gustaffson) and every player they moved on from has been good (ghost, walman). again, whatever former red wing is in charge of nhl scouting deserves to be fired. i understand the draft. i even understand that the average time for a second round pick to make the nhl is 4 to 5 years, so were right on the timeline for our bevy of so-called failed second rounders to make it soon. but to let walman and ghost and even perron go to sign this group has been the difference between last year almost making the playoffs and this year being a surefire lottery team.

  29. https://quincyinst.org/2022/02/03/what-a-waste-778-billion-for-the-pentagon-and-still-counting/ Cutting waste and unnecessary weapons systems at the Pentagon is where to start with government cuts. They've failed their 7th audit in a row. Bernie Sanders proposed an amendment making a 10% reduction to the Pentagon's budget. A handful of Democratic Senators supported it. I think Rand Paul was the only Republican to do so. If Elon Musk is serious about cutting wasteful spending, he can start with the Pentagon.

  34. You have to remember that DD came on to a feckless team and developed them into a contender very quickly, providing perhaps the longest stretch of competitiveness for the team since probably the 1934 - 1940 period. DD's last acts were the start of the tear down and in July 2015 he picked up some good prospects, including a future ROY. Avila had a wealth of material to trade and we came out of it with Jake and a handful of WAR from a few other fringe major leaguers. If DD and the Tigers were dedicated to rebuilding in 2015 I doubt it would have put us into the decade long drought we've seen. I put that entirely on Avila. Anyway, Harris does seem to be the anti-Dombroski so far, but there might be a time and place for Dombroski's methodology and I'm not sure if Harris will entirely ignore that going forward. I have a lot of faith in Harris and I trust he will take the right direction.

  35. If you were designing an anti-Dombrowski you couldn't do much better than Harris. Junior watched DD and Senior send the team into 10yr of purgatory. I see a low probability of that happening again.

  36. I think the problem with Duren is that even if he does develop a bit you then are gonna have to pay him. Has the makings of another Drummond situation so if we could find away to get rid of him now and not have to worry about that I would be all for it.

  38. You keep Stew 100% of the time. He has value if/when they make the playoffs. Duren might actually lose value come playoff time since he will be aggressively hunted by other teams offenses.
