  1. The question is non-sequitor. Ours is the support that can make it unnecessary for us or others to send troops to Ukraine.

  2. Keep that in mind when you see some knuckle dragging maga dip**** with solidified chew spittle on his too small sweatshirt complain about “erasing history” when a confederate statue comes down.

  3. It's been 10 years, but I regularly did that from roughly 2010-2015. The facilities have changed significantly, but really you just walk back there. There used to be a guy in an orange hat who power tripped and kept people from going back there, but it's just free seating, get up close and personal, and don't be an autograph hound. Enter by the area behind the right field of the stadium, walk the path below and sit in the bleachers between the two fields. Once games get going, there's usually two games going at once.

  4. You give us too much credit. The Ukrainians are not fighting the Russians because we are 'letting them'. They've made their decision that freedom from an oppressive Russian imperialist kelptocracy is worth it to them, much like a bunch of colonists did a couple of hundred years ago against a British crown that was objectively nowhere nearly as brutally uncivilized. The colonists didn't ask another great power, the French, to fight for them, though they did seek material support there. Of course a few soldiers of fortune did show up in the colonies, much like I'm sure you can find Americans and Canadians and poles in Ukraine today working in that war effort without any official sanction from their governments.

  5. Yes, it is a dictator move, as he is using the power of the state to threaten the media's business with legal action based on spurious charges in order to prevent full, open, and transparent news coverage of him and his administration. Not for nothing, that is also the idea behind preventing most news media outlets from fielding a correspondent at the White House. Using the power of the state for personal gain in such a manner is the textbook definition of corruption.

  6. MAGA is trying to eliminate black history. Talk about free speech. Germany still teaches the holocaust.

  8. It makes me sad and angry that the Trump Administration has gaul to go over to Munich, where the Nazis Beer Hall Putsch took place in 1923, and lecture the Germans about defending democracy. They did this after Trump and his MAGA allies committed the Beer Belly Putsch on January 6th in an attempted coup to overthrow our government.

  9. You coveniently left out the part about "with help from France". Now I'm not advocating "boots on the ground" in Ukraine. We learned our lesson in Korea and Viet Nam among other places. But you keep spouting Putin's rhetoric

  11. I remember when Pudge showed up to spring training looking thinner than ever, like he lost 30 or 40 pounds, and they asked him why he lost so much weight and he said “I just got tired of eating.“ Thank God it had nothing to do with steroids.

  12. Seeing that the full squad reports this morning, the offseason is now officially over for everybody and spring training begins in earnest! Let's start the thread with an injury update from this morning.

  15. I just penciled that week on my calendar. They're only an hour away. I do need to see more live games. I hate traveling to Norfolk, I hate the traffic and with construction starting on a new casino nearby parking will be at a premium. It also seems my doctors appointments at Duke and baseball don't align in Durham

  17. There’s no need to be wary of slippery slope situations. That’s lazy. If Germany says “you know we have a lot to atone for historically so the price we pay is you can’t be a nazi or do nazi ****” then so be it. If the US outlawed the use of the N word or other slurs against blacks to atone for slavery I would be fine with it too.

  18. It’s not all quite so innocent. The “Baseball Annie’s“ I saw who hung around outside Hi Corbett Field hoping to meet the players were pretty incredible. They weren’t sleazy or trampy, at least the few I saw. They were smart athletic women who were clearly intellectually superior to the profane tobacco chewing men they sought to ally with, who in marriage with a husband gone half the time could hold the ship and the family together with no problem.

  21. Ernie was the best at capturing that magic of a kid just called up. He did an interview with Fred Holdsworth in the mid-70s that stuck with me. It was Fred's first day and he was bubbling over with excitement. He was thrilled to be interviewed by Ernie and Ernie was as warm and encouraging as could be.

  24. I coached youth baseball for five years or so when my son was of age. I have four grandsons nine years and under that play baseball. Of course, my son is coaching youth baseball now. I enjoy this kind of stuff. My wife is a team player that is a legit baseball fan! Thank you for sharing your experiences. 👍

  25. I will be in FLA March 8 and 9. Tigers at Blue Jays in Dunedin on Saturday (first time in a while I'll be paying attention to the national anthems), then Pirates in Lakeland on Sunday. Hoping to see everyone at the top of the prospects list for at least a couple reps.

  26. The back fields are a weird experience. Last time I was there was when Wilkin Hernandez saved my son's life by jumping over the wall and bringing back a HR ball that I was foolishly trying to catch with my son on my shoulders. The ramifications of the ball hitting the kid instead of my hands which I was using to hold him were lost on gormless me. Back then, you could back then just go back there and watch drills and scrimmages they had going on. You'll see a lot of infield scenario practices. The pitchers have to be HERE when the ball goes to RF and there is a runner on second. The runner being drilled on how far to lead off on the fly ball, etc. They are experienced at Baseball but they do the drills to make it all second nature. Its of great interest if you are a youth sports coach or otherwise a nut about the game, but your non-baseball addict wife or kids might be bored out of their minds.

  28. As the band Gomez says - He's got Options. But again, we're gonna pass over Sweeney (and others) to make room for Zach McKinstry. Why? Because he's left handed? He's career .220 against right handed pitching. Because he can play multiple positions? So can most of the roster. This is like the Red Wings bringing back Dan Cleary for four years too long. I'd rather take my chances with Sweeney, Lee, or even Navigato. They all may suck, but who knows? I know what Zach is. Nothing personal, but he will give you those two weeks that make you think "Hey, what about this guy?" and then resort to sucking again. Raburn 2.0. He played multiple positions too.

  30. I have always been curious about the Junior Felix nontender. He batted .306/.372/.525 for the Tigers at age 26 and then never again played in the majors. I get that the strike screwed things up, but it's fascinating to me that he never got another chance with anyone. This SABR profile suggests that he might have been a lot older than 26: https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/junior-felix/#:~:text=Félix was believed to be,already in his mid-30s.

  33. According to most measures, Germany is a freer country than the US, and that was even before Trump. I'm not even sure why we are fixated on whether you can wave a swastika in Germany. Just a reminder: naziholic is not a nazi. He just defends and supports them.
