  1. If i fed you a sandwich that had a turd on it, but also had bacon and you rejected it, does that mean you don't like bacon?

  2. An unvaccinated school age child in Texas has died from Measles. Parents should be brought up on child endangerment charges for not getting a child a vaccine that's been given for close to 70 years. Ignorance can be deadly.

  5. Back in the day when Ty Cobb and and I were chewing Laudanum gum and hunting pheasant in the off-season we never lifted weights, and I don’t remember baseball players getting injured and straining their biceps simply by throwing a ball during spring training.

  6. Of course this is the same bill that would slash Medicaid funding, which hospitals rely on for a lot of their cash flow and which finances something like 30-40% of births in this country. Funding that if slashed would bankrupt families and would likely cause hospitals to have to cut staff, if not close entirely in some rural areas. And you think this bill is a positive outcome???

  8. I’m not going to purchase doom and gloom about Meadows until I have to. So as far as I’m concerned, he’ll miss a week of spring training and be back in center field, chatting with the unicorns that typically hang on the berm and feeding them tangerine marshmallows.

  10. I spent 10 minutes to find this post just to follow up on the Nazi IT people and the dos prompt. The cmd command not only worked on the network, but on a school issued laptop. How fricken cool is that??? Thank you, I would buy you a couple of beers if I could. I got the biggest kick out of that.

  13. what BS. Regan came in with inflation at >10% and the pain from the Fed tightening at least solved a real problem. Trump took over an economy that was humming - no pain whatsoever was in order...

  25. I've noticed a lot of these people who are anti-vaxers or anti anything, usually start off with something like "That's what they want you to think" or "what they don't want you to know." Being contrarian means you're not a sheep and are very smart. You know something everyone else doesn't know. I call it the Aaron Rodgers effect. He thinks he's an intellectual because he bucks established science.

  27. I sent John James a follow up. I also asked him why he supported cutting Medicaid and Snap, why he doesn't speak out on the tariffs that threaten auto jobs in the district and why he supports Musk cutting VA funding and firing thousands of vets. Since the only thing he can talk about is his military service, I asked him if he is a loser or sucker. I await his canned response.

  30. Interesting thing occurred to me. This map reflects the difference between a country in which Russian troops were and where US and British troops were stationed between 1945 and 1989. I often think of the value and knock on effect on the US troops who came out of their rural and urban provincialist upbringings and lived among the strange German society totally different from what they were used. I really hadn't given too much thought to my German friends who also were exposed to the random US cultures. They were into hip hop, heavy metal and liked American sports. They lost their minds for Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Their dads seemed ok to have US servicemembers date their daughters even if there was a bit of an age discrepancy (that actually still blows my mind). Not sure how you fix the gap between that acculturation and whatever the hell happened in East Germany. Stationing troops there isn't really in the long range plan unless Poland is invaded and we need to build up our buffers.

  31. Yes Harris & co. are in the process of developing a farm system, maybe even more important - an ability to develop players. With said, it was under the Avila watch that they drafted or acquired: Greene, Skubal, Meadows, Rogers, Olsen, Jung, Tork, Mize, etc. - now, would his regime have been able to take several of these players to the next level that most are trending towards? That is another question, and history may lean towards the 'maybe not' side of it.

  33. This thread from Rep. Casten (from the Chicago Suburbs) outlines why their Medicaid cuts would be devastating in practice and why they are trying their hardest to keep their intentions hidden as much as possible in this process. The bullet point list he gives for why it affects even those (like all of us I assume) who don't use it is spot on: Families have kids with physical and mental disabilities, and unless you are uber-wealthy, Medicaid is very likely going to be utilized to allow them to live a life of dignity. It's used to cover nursing home expenses. Especially for those without family to look after us, we maybe would need to rely on Medicaid to help finance the costs If you live in a rural area and rely on a hospital system which takes a lot of Medicaid patients, cutting Medicaid would result in worse care and/or hospital closures (this is one I harp on a lot because it's the likeliest biggest direct impact to my life should it go through) Slashing Medicaid will lead to less usage of preventative care services and force more people to utilize ERs, which are already overcrowded as it is. To quote @Tigeraholic1, woof....

  38. Just following in the footsteps of Leo de Medici: "In 1517, Pope Leo X offered indulgences for those who gave alms to rebuild St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The aggressive marketing practices of Johann Tetzel in promoting this cause provoked Martin Luther to write his Ninety-five Theses, condemning what he saw as the purchase and sale of salvation." US and its political culture *are* proving themselves in need of a little Reformation. 🤷‍♀️
