They didn't allow the zone in spring and won't when the challenge system is in place because they don't want any chance of a team being able to see it and somehow quickly communicate it to the batter/pitcher/catcher to initiate a challenge. It's back now because the challenge system isn't in effect.2 points

I don't know that I hated him, just thought that he was a cartoon character. I remember rolling my eyes a couple of times, especially when he ended up in the tabloids. I'm not sure who first said this, but it sums up the way I feel: Stop making stupid people famous.2 points

for tarasenko or gustafsson, you would owe them 2/3 of their salary and then the cap hit is spread out over the next two years.1 point

How would you eliminate it? if a catcher instinctively moves his glove is that a penalty? If a catcher is able to catch a ball at the very bottom of his mitt while the top of his mitt is in the zone is that a penalty? I don't think it would be easy to implement at all.1 point
-
I know we’ve discussed it before and some people view it as gamesmanship but catcher framing is done solely to deceive the ump. Eliminating it would be much easier to implement and have a big impact on improving an umpires ability to call a proper game.1 point

The Doge**** commission has now cut Americorps. A lot of my students participated in that. It was good for the community and good for them I guess volunteer community service by young people is too woke... Screw that. We need more of that, not less. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5255458-gavin-newsom-california-americorps-trump-administration-legal-action/1 point

Rounding up illegals already in the country is a separate issue from illegals entering this country. Trump's rhetoric alone has done a ton regarding the border. Crossings are estimated to be down 95%. https://usafacts.org/answers/how-many-migrant-encounters-are-there-along-the-us-mexico-border/country/united-states/ Plus look at what he's doing to our economy, a bad US economy has always lowered illegal crossings and if he gets his way, we're going to have years of a bad economy which will help assist with this issue. I disagree with his tactics (both in terms of not liking how he dehumanizes this group and also the legality of his tactics) and I disagree with what we're seeing regarding deporting those that have legal protection to stay in the US, at least until a hearing. But he has helped control the southern border in a very short time.1 point

One of my main arguments to Trumpers. Cheer the guys who received pardons for committing crimes against the government (breaking and entering, assault) and went thru the judicial process, yet a guy who was accused but never charged or had a trial is guilty because he's from a different country. They're all hypocrites and liars.1 point

To be fair to you, he's not the same Bill Kristol he was in 2005. I feel like I followed his path closely where we don't want to say we've changed, we want to say the GOP changed and as a result, we were left behind. Truthfully though, we changed. Maybe no change on racial issues, but more empathetic. Definitely changed on social issues or at least how we value them. I can say for myself I felt the government wasn't needed for social change, the people would do that on their own and bake in any changes they made into government, so I didn't care about government involvement up front. Now with the attacks from the government on social issues, I see the importance I didn't recognize before. Can't say if it's the exact reasoning for Kristol, but sounds like it to me. Even some change on economic issues, he definitely doesn't sound like your traditional conservative when he refers to the tech bros as oligarchs.1 point

You have to admit, Trump was pretty good at messaging to Hispanics. He said they were all murderers and rapist from a floating island of garbage who are poisoning the blood of Americans and they are eating all the dogs and cats and must be deported immediately. How would you not vote for that?1 point

I remember him from the USFL which actually started 42 years ago (not 45). I saw him in an interview and my very sensitive douchebag meter went off the charts immediately!1 point

I watched spring training games almost everyday and noticed that the umpires were calling balls & strikes more efficiently than they are now in the regular season. The ball & strike calls have been horrible across the board so far since the regular season started. The ABS system seemed to challenge the umpires more in spring training, not wanting any of their calls reversed and the umpires were mostly correct when a batter, catcher or pitcher challenged. ABS needs to be implemented ASAP for the regular season.1 point

In my small sample size, his biggest supporters still love him. They love what he's doing with immigrants and they expect the tariffs to fix the econony. He is saving America! The moderate Republicans (voted for Haley and then Trump) don't like him, but think the liberals are overreacting. They are not regretting voting against Harris. I think i's going to take a fairly long-term economic down-term to change any minds.1 point

What's crazy about the last few months... Some people thought I was exaggerating how bad this was going to be in November. I underestimated to a huge degree the amount of harm that would be done.1 point

He began with the Boise Hawks when he was in the Cubs system, and for years he would call his host family and talk to them for about a half an hour long after he was a major leaguer. He’s a good guy.1 point

While I don't disagree about MTG. I was a bit more concerned about Trumpublican Storm Troopers tasering anyone who dares to object at Town Hall "meetings" These are the same folks applauding convicted felons from 1/6 getting off scott free (and celebrated) while applauding deportments without even a mock trial.1 point

I just re-read In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. A non-fiction book about the American ambassador and his family living in Germany during the rise of Hitler. The parallels to what is happening here in America at this moment are astounding. How regular, ordinary people became enraptured by a beast and all that lead to. Scary times. I never thought I would live to see this in America.1 point

I think the Democratic party has pretty much decided their preferred candidate ahead of time the last two elections. Then they decided another one on the fly in 2024! I suggest they leave it wide open in 2028. Otherwise, it will be hard for many people to take their claims of "defending Democracy" seriously. Let the people decide who they want.1 point
