All these cardinals are total losers. One of them, a big burly man with tears in his eyes, came to me the other day and said sir, you should be pope. You’d be the best pope, because popes until now have been weak. I would be a great pope, like you’ve never seen before. Did you know popes go back over 1,000 years? Nobody knew that. But I asked, why is all this stuff in Latin, a language nobody ever heard of? Everyone knows Jesus spoke English, which is the only language anyone understands. Did you know popes get to change their name from their real name to a pope name? Like Francis, what kind of name is that? It’s a pretty stupid name, a weak name. I’m gonna keep my name, Donald Jesus Trump. This will all happen soon, very soon, in about two weeks.3 points

If he gets hot and the others remain hot, it really extends this lineup. Beating the teams we're supposed to beat is the sign of a very good team.2 points

If the score holds up the Tigers will have scored the 2nd most runs in the AL while giving up the fewest. Impressive stuff.1 point

I have never really, fully bought into the whole "Dementia Don" notion that Donald Trump has dementia. I think it is dangerous when non-medical professionals sit behind a CPU screen and try to diagnose an individual with something as serious as dementia or alzheimer's. I think Trump just isn't a very smart human being and that gets intermixed with the fact that he might be a malignant narcissist. Again, I'm not a medical professional, so I can't say for certain if Trump is a diagnosed malignant narcissist. He sure seems like one though.1 point

Please do not equate the stupid, ignorant, arrogant drivel that spews from his mouth with anything a person with dementia may say. There is no equivalence whatsoever. Trump hasn’t ever been intelligent. Trump hasn’t an educated bone in his body. Trump hasn’t ever done anything with anyone but himself in mind. He hasn’t “gotten worse”. This is who he has always been, he just now has attention and a platform 24/7.1 point

I think there might have been some discussion about Santander as a fall back option to Bregman strictly for the hitting side. I think there was also acknowledgment that it’d be tough to figure out playing time among OF/1B/DH after signing Torres which pushed Keith to 1B, not knowing what to expect out of Torkelson, wanting Carpenter to get more time vs LHP, Greene playing everyday in LF, using the DH slot as a partial rest day, etc. But he was never an obvious target for the Tigers. There was no serious discussion about what we’re seeing out of Torkelson, Baez, and McKinstry. I guess there was some hope for Torkelson to become serviceable but I don’t think it was widespread.1 point

A neighbor and a buddy of mine were at Kent State 55 years ago today. One was a student and the other was in the National Guard. I missed the draft by one year. One year older and I would have been gone as by birthday came out number 8. Kids my age watched many of our buddies go to Nam. Many didn't come home, and many more didn't come home the same. Some suffer to this day the hell they experienced in that stupid war. **** war and the warmongering chicken hawks who profit from the killing machine.1 point

Because I am truly older than dirt, I have a very clear remembrance of the day of the Kent State killings. I was in high school, and knew more than a few of those young men who in a year or two (if they didn’t get into college and get a deferment) would be drafted. They were in dread. The protests in the nation were ramping up, and were, in large part, organized and attended by the 18-25 year olds. The absolute horror of seeing national guard members open fire and just shoot into a crowd of unarmed students and/or protestors (not all of them are protesters, a lot of of them were just students walking across campus to their next class) - it took your breath away and felt like a stomach punch. It still makes me very queasy… and for sure, I am feeling like we have more of this coming, and I feel like there will be even less hesitation for law enforcement to fire into crowds. I fear for all of us.1 point

I find this Skubal conversation fascinating. I think Boras starts the bidding at 8/550, with a settlement at around 6/450 by the Dodgers. He will never sign for a paltry 200 mil.1 point

Those last two wins were addictively transcendent. I imagine this is what Keith Richards feels when he runs out of heroin and even the methadone clinic is closed late at night.1 point

What a game. I forgive them for all past misery in Anaheim. I sat and watched the stadium empty while we mashed four homers in the ninth. Wow.1 point

It should be a 3-3 series heading to New York tonight. A few things go different and they could actually be in the second round right now. These are things that absolutely LOL to think about heading into this season. Cunningham is not a perfect player, he’s not at his max capacity yet. This current core, if there is one, isn’t complete yet. There’s still work to be done. As buddha said, growth isn’t always linear. Hopefully there are a few moves to be made to augment the cast around Cunningham rather than just sitting back and hoping for maturity amongst the youngsters. But this was a delightful season, no question. Pro teams should play to win championships, but I’m quite content with what they accomplished this season considering where they’ve been.1 point

let me rephrase this. You need an evil sociopath...sometimes that is Max Scherzer or sometimes its Jack Morris. Sometimes, in the case of Denny McClain, its an actual sociopath.1 point

Why not is because if we are expecting to compete for the playoffs/championship next year, we should be looking to keep/add players like Skubal rather than sell. The difference between a comp pick (similar to McGonigle) and 2 top 50 prospects is worth it for 1 season of a top 5 pitcher in the game. The Angels didn’t “not recover” from losing Ohtani for a comp pick, they weren’t good before that. If we were in the position we were 2-4 years ago, yes trading Skubal would have made more sense. Not when we are a playoff caliber team.1 point

I may have mentioned it but his Dad is my kids HS asst Baseball coach. He really works with kids struggling at the plate and gets the best out of them. His brother also runs a hitting school here localy and played a in the minors for awhile. Just a great all around baseball family. https://www.coach-mckinstry.com/1 point

I believe they are willing to but will not pay someone until they have to. They won't bid against themselves. A lot can happen in 2 seasons. I don't think they will be rash about it or consider their position as contenders and use a window as justification be rash. They are confident in their ability to develop good pitchers and will weigh that. They will be competitive in the offer but the days of over paying to "keep our guys" like Victor and Cabrera are over. Orgs will do well to not be sentimental. If he walks he walks.1 point

Jason Isbell has a new solo album out called Foxes in the Snow. This one is more of an Isbell only project as it does not feature his band the 400 Unit. It also features more solo and acoustic guitar work from Jason. So far my favorite songs are True Believer, Gravelweed, Wind Behind the Rain, Ride to Roberts, and Crimson and Clay.1 point
