The ban of Pete Rose was not about punishing Pete Rose. It was about maintaining the integrity of the game. It shouldn't matter whether he's dead or alive. I do think that this was inevitable though given that MLB is now so in bed with gamblers that every broadcast is a game-long advertisement for gambling companies.4 points

Walking off the Red Sox. Does it get any sweeter? Well, yeah...Walking them off two nights in a row. Some people might think that walking off the Yankees would be sweeter, and I respect that. But for me, oh it's so so sweet to do it to the Red Sox. Oh baby.4 points

The constant gambling promotion and the insane numbers of in game interviews saturated with plugola are making the broadcasts unwatchable.3 points

I'm not a twins' fan, but you have to feel for the team and fanbase. Two guys who are arguably among the the best of their generation ( but can't stay on the field) are finally healthy and the team is beating up the rest of the league right now. I know it is baseball, but someone in Minnesota severely upset the baseball Gods.1 point

and again, people personalize it based on an owner's personal resources, but it doesn't really work that way. The league doesn't allow owners to subsidize their teams with outside income even if they wanted to - the team has to have the income. The owners demand of each other that they keep their teams solvent because that is what protects the market value of franchises, and every owner is vitally interested in maintaining that. And if a team's revenue falls to where it can't maintain solvent operations, it gets moved.1 point

Kansas City is the perfect example of why MLB needs a salary cap. The Royals won the World Series in 2015, because they drafted and developed well, but couldn't keep the team in tact. The Kansas City Chiefs are a near dynasty because they have good coaching, draft well, and have the best player in the league. If this were MLB, Mahomes would get an Ohtani like contract from New York or Los Angeles. The Jets have the longest active playoff drought in the NFL, and Los Angeles went 20 years without a team and the league thrived. There's a whole world outside of New York and Los Angeles and the NFL is the most popular sport because a team in Green Bay Wisconsin has equal opportunity as New York City.1 point

The AL Central division leads all of baseball with 116 wins. You would think that the NL West would be the leader, but Colorado’s mere seven wins is the problem and the West has only 110.1 point

My memory of 68 is that Willie Horton would hit a 2 run homer in the 7th inning and the Tigers would win 2-1. How often did that actually happen? Maybe only once or twice. I feel like McLain's 30th win was a game like that. Too lazy to look it up.1 point

Too bad we won't be going back to Colorado. That high was much more even. The division has played 700 ball for 50 games - 35-15 and that includes the White Sox 5 - 5.1 point

The 68 team definitely won a lot of games after the 7th inning. The 84 team just punched the sh*t out of everyone.1 point

The Red Sox fell below .500 tonight thanks to the Tigers walkoff win.1 point

love the celtics going small and putting holliday or white on kat. spread em out and drive. they put the knicks in the bonus with 10 minutes left in the game. not by standing around and watching tatum and brown shooting fade away 3s, but with cutting and movement to the basket.1 point

They are convenient. My office is normally a weird temperature so full-zip hoodie is usually the way to go with a polo or t-shirt with some derogatory thing about Ohio State on it so my boss who happens to be a buckeye can see he sucks.1 point

well, Langford is 4 WAR LF and we have a 5 WAR LF, so he has to go to RF, which displaces Carpenter and/or Vierling (~3 WAR). So maybe you trade a player, but corner OF is not where the Tigers have much weakness that Langford would have been a big marginal upgrade. OTOH, Max Clark is three yrs younger and should a big piece of the pipeline as we start losing current players to cost/FA. Assuming Max turns into a good pro. If you are in "all in" win once ASAP you definitely take Langford. If you don't want to be the Orioles and have your window close before you ever got through it, maybe you take Clark.1 point

I don't think they will but I'm not losing sleep over it. Giving him that kind of contract at age 30 is just too risky in this market. If they still have the pitching lab, I'm confident they can develop and find pitching in bulk.1 point
