Some questionable music choices.... I saw a clip where they played Fortunate Son by CCR as the parade was going on. Sounds like somebody has no idea what that song is about.4 points

And Happy Fathers Day—not sure how many of us this applies, too, given that we’re a collection of internet, baseball nerds who probably have never had sex, much less helped spawn any offspring. Happy Father’s Day, anyway.2 points

My wife says no-one ever heard any the lyrics to R&R songs. Maybe she's right. I remember GM once ran a series of commercials, for Cadillac I think, over the Who's "Eminence Front" they cut it off before the got to the lyric, the chorus of which is "It's a put on", which is of course the perfect sentiment for any advertising! But yeah - total oblivion sometimes.2 points

Nice tidbit about the Vander Meer anniversary, but it was the first night game at Ebbets Field, not Crosley (where the first ever ML night game had been played three years earlier). Talking about esoteric nerdy factoids…1 point

4 firsts and two rotation players seems like a high price for Bane and really screws the trade market for the summer because everyone is going to be pointing to that trade now. Imagine what this does to the asking price for guys like Giannis and KD. The future Orlando picks will likely be in the early 20's, but this year's #13 and the Suns pick in 2026 (probably lottery) are good assets. Question now is, what is Memphis doing? Are they just getting under the cap and are happy to be a play-in team? Because they certainly aren't set up to contend. Or, is this just the beginning and they're going to blow it up? If it's the latter, the Pistons should be on the phones trying to get JJJ. I'm not giving up Cade or Ausar, but anything else is on the menu.1 point

Is one of them really the Sun's 2026 pick? Unprotected? I wouldn't trade that for Bane.1 point

He has surrounded himself with incompetent psychopaths, so it's not surprising everything they have tried to do has been a failure.1 point

amen, brother. the only non-drafted player who has given value to the team over his contract last year is patrick kane. a guy who landed on their doorstep because no one else wanted him, not because the wings unearthed him. shayne gothisebere and jake walman might have been nice and better than justin holl and eric gustaffson. just sayin. and that's not a matter of "players wont sign with us" because you had them under contract and didnt re-sign them/gave them away.1 point

Despite the horrific way by which the Tigers have lost some recent ballgames, a glance through their games to date reveals that they do not have a losing record in any ten-game stretch so far this season. But, also, they’ve been as good as 8-2 in any ten-game stretch only a couple of times. So the whole season so far has been a steady diet of 5-5, 6-4, and 7-3 records in any given ten-game stretch. That’s a very good kind of consistency.1 point

Oh friend...no offense intended...you are a sweet summer child to this entire world of gearheads who geek over these old tanks. One very interesting place in particular i've visited in the UK is the Tank Museum. A friend and I send each other gear from their gift shop each Christmas. Very dorky indeed. https://tankmuseum.org/ https://tankmuseum.org/events/tankfest/ Another place I believe in Florida is run by a bunch of US armor aficionados who are led by Rabbi Rob an actual ordained rabbi apparently. https://www.ww2armor.org/1 point

Considering how much deference they give this administration, you know it's bad when the Times is calling it low-energy...1 point

If it's supposed to be a military parade honoring the Army, why the pre-recorded rock music. Come on guys any parade planner with his/her salt should at least give us marches. Can the CCR and give us Sousa, Karl King (circus marches better fit this farce), Edwin Bagley, at the very least John Williams.1 point

I've only seen clips, but it's striking how sloppy the whole production is... If a Russian parade were planned and it went off like this, one of Putin's associates would be throwing the organizer off of a balcony1 point

I've never really understood the idea of not making a trade within your division. If you think it's a good trade, then do it. If you think it will come back to haunt you, don't do it.1 point

There's a kid from my daughter's HS that spent some time in the majors after going to college...he was a three sport star in HS, but baseball was his best sport. Scouts knew who he was when he was 11 or 121 point
