  1. Wherein I point out that taking somebody other than Max Clark in 2023 may have jeopardized McGonigle.

  3. He still had to say he is evaluating his LA future. Because he is a dramatic little bitch that always has to keep his name in the headlines.

  4. To me at least 1 high level reliever and another dependable starter are the biggest needs. Yeah our current starting pitching situation isn't terrible but I want to have as many options as possible come October and I would feel alot more comfortable having at least 1 more guy. If I knew for sure Olson would be healthy and pitching like he is capable of, Mize was being reliable and Flaherty was pitching like the good version of himself then sure we wouldn't need one but history suggests the likelihood of that happening is slim. More likely than not at least 1 or 2 of those guys is either going to be struggling or hurt which as it stands would mean we'd have to potentially have 2 or more games in a series with either a struggling pitcher, "pitching chaos" or somebody like Montero or SGL. I don't like that at all, by getting another reliable guy it would at least mitigate those chances, if everything works out and all those ideal situations happen like I mentioned above then you have the luxury of moving somebody like Mize/Flaherty/Olson or the acquired pitcher to the pen.

  5. Is this as lazy a take as it seems to me? Why would the Tigers want an all-glove/no-stick 3B when we have Z-Mac, Matty V, Javeer and Colt on the current roster? All of them are adequate defenders, and all of them provide far better offense. I mean, who are you sending down to make room for Hayes? Bregman and Suarez make sense for Detroit. Hayes makes zero sense.

  6. I made my feelings on Beasley know during the season. Not opening that can of worms again. I would have been fine with a 1-year deal. But no way should they have given him a 3-year deal. He has been bad in the playoffs his entire career. We are now at a point where we have to take into consideration how a guy performs in the playoffs. Moving on will be a good thing.

  8. The 80s core stayed together for a long time. The problem was they didn't add to the core with complementary pieces after 1984. Their development just kind of stopped and Anderson was not a great manager for developing young players. He was good at managing egos but didn't have a lot of patience with young players.

  12. When they said he put on weight did they specify whether it was muscle or fat. I'd hate for him to show up to camp all blown up, looking like mid-2010s Dustin Byfuglien.

  13. Apparently it's not related to his time in Detroit. Back from when he was with LA. If he's found guilty that's an NBA ban and his career is over. I'd like to hope that Trajan is smart enough to stay away from him this offseason even though this is just an investigation at this stage. Not worth the risk. No need to operate over the cap now. Beasley in trouble, Schroder going somewhere to be a starter, and THJ isn't someone that you need to worry about prioritizing. Release the cap holds, Free up the money, and go get NAW or DFS or something. We needed to replace last years vets with some 2-way players anyway.

  18. The dumb thing about these pro athletes getting caught on prop bets? You can't make any money on them. None. If you went to every book right now and opened accounts, I would be shocked if you could find one with a $10,000 limit or higher. Even if you do, once you win a few bets, they are going to start limiting you down. Within a week or two you are going to be limited at $10 a bet. I would be shocked if he even made $100,000. That is chump change to a guy with career earnings of $50 million and about to get another $40 million bag. Just stupid.

  20. The guys on the Roku broadcast (Cleveland-St louis) were saying Skubal and the Tigers are must see TV. Called them the best team in baseball and were amazed how we took off after the trade deadline last season after trading and releasing players. ESPN announced tonight's game before they knew Skubal was going. They get lucky...

  21. 14-11 for the month of June, 7-7 in past 14, lets have a nice solid win to cap the month and head into July. I turn 58 tomorrow and while the Tigers won’t win my age in time for my birthday, 53 wins by the end of June would be superb.

  26. The Tigers have scored more runs than any other team in the AL and have also scored more runs than teams such as Philadelphia and the Mets because everyone in the lineup other than Jake, in general, contributes. It would be really nice to see the whole lineup rake tonight.

  27. The premise of these "redraft" hypotheticals assumes players are drafted in order of how good they are and not based on who signals they are willing to sign a deal with the team and where they fit in the bonus pool, and I don't know how how to spread that word.

  28. Cost is definitely the key with him. I worry about him being restricted. You normally have to overpay so his original team doesn't match. No clue what Memphis looks like cap wise, though. Maybe it will be a struggle for them to keep him. I also agree about backup PG. Ivey as the secondary ball handler with Cade on the floor or the backup PG is fine. Not real interested him as the lead ball handler for extended minutes, though. I'm also done with Sasser, so hopefully they don't feel he is the answer.

  29. There aren't a ton of options if they're looking for a replacement for Fontecchio at the backup PF. Santi isn't a bad option depending upon what he'll cost. He'd certainly be a much better (and younger) version of Tek. I've heard a lot of Portis talk as well, but I think that's just fans speculating. Their plan obviously isn't to push in their chips and instead to improve on the margins. If that's the case, then I'm ok with Santi on a small sign-and-trade and getting NAW in free agency. Ivey takes THJ's minutes, NAW takes Beasley's, and Santi takes Tek's. Any minutes that were going to Sasser (if he's still around) would go to Lanier. Those are all solid upgrades. The question remaining after that is whether they want to trust Ivey to be the backup PG again (I hope not) and where they're going to find one without much cash to spare. Oh, and a legitimate 7 footer to replace Bball Paul on the bench would be nice insurance.

  31. I guess I never really considered Blues Brothers a comedy. It’s one of my favorite movies ever. I have 2 DVD copies. It’s in my DVR. And I will watch it when it’s on. I have it memorized. I recite it constantly. Maybe the humor is ingrained so much. Oddly enough recently I just noticed a detail I’d never noticed. After they go into the soul food joint for the Aretha performance they go to Rays. While perusing the merchandise Elwood approaches a toaster oven and pulls out a piece of white bread from his coat pocket to see if it fits.

  35. In regards to McGonigle and his potential future prospect ranking I came across this in the latest Law chat, earlier in the thread somebody posed a question about who is most likely to be number 1 come next season and named Chandler, Made, Pena, Griffin or other. Keith said other. Then later in the chat somebody asked this. zoor: Kevin McGonigle on #1 prospect watch ? Keith Law: Yes. Keith Law: That’s a guy more likely to be #1 in January than any of the other three in the question above where I said “Other.”
