Cody made it clear from his sources that the Tigers have zero interest in Hayes-hallelujah!3 points

2 really good arms is a stretch. Herring is doing really well, but both are at high A and have a long way to go. Melton by himself is likely worth close to as much as both of them combined. Pipeline has them as 8 and 21 in the Yankees system which is a mid of pack system at best. And the Yankees get a good defensive 3B who is under control for 2 years. Suarez will get more, but I’d be surprised if he gets a top 100 prospect and I wouldn’t give up our top 5 (including Lorenzo) for any rental. All the rest are available (however it would take a more proven high K reliever to part with Melton as I believe he can fill that role for us.3 points

the bogus malfeasance idea was being tested in the RW media before this event. They wanted to have Powell crack under direct questioning on camera about how there were cost overruns under his watch.2 points

My money is Suarez will not bring a top 100 prospect in return from anybody apart from LA1 point

Bowden is known for vastly overestimating what players will get in a trade-he seems to still be thinking it is like when he was last GM. for perspective 0 top 100 prospects were traded at last years deadline. In 2023, 3 were with the highest rank being #72. 2022 was the anomaly-8 were but 3 of them were in the Juan Soto trade when he was under control for 2 1/2 years. And 2 were for a Luis Castillo under control for at least 3 1/2 years 2021 3 were 2020 -1 #73 All the way back to 2018, 0 top 10 prospects were traded, 5 top 25, 5 26-50 referenced from Baseball America article1 point

https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/adley-rutschman-668939?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb - He should be expected .800 OPS as a catcher.... I'll take that all day long. I think when he gets back, he's gonna be a monster. Calling it here 🙂1 point

This is ****ing rotten. Israel, and the US funding of this genocide, have crossed well beyond the line of self defense and anything that happened on October 7th. Anyone still defending Netanyahu and the Israeli government ought have a long conversation with their conscience. Blocking aid trucks, shooting at people attempting to get aid, bombing refuge camps, bombing hospitals, burning human beings alive is disgusting and repugnant behavior that equals or in some cases goes beyond what Hamas did on October 7th.1 point

A lot of fans put a higher value on prospects than teams looking at them do. Most prospects never make the show but there's always that possibility that they might. And be big stars. I remember last season, Baltimore refused to trade any of their young players for pitching. And that did them in at playoff time. The Tigers could trade several of their prospects for players to help them now. But I doubt Harris will, he's a firm believer in building a contender thru the draft and development. But, we'll see. Hopefully he surprises me.1 point

Seems procedural. None of them got in the game yesterday, and I haven't seen any corresponding roster moves to get under the Domestic Reserve limit, which this puts them about 10 over.1 point

Suarez will cost a team a top 100 prospect. I'll be absolutely astonished if he doesn't. For the record, I don't think we should trade Clark, McGonigle or Rainer. I think the first two are as close to 100% untouchable as possible. Rainer I'd say is 95% untouchable. I want the Tigers to keep all three. I'd consider these first tier. If the Tigers were to deal a top prospect, I think Briceno, Liranzo (most likely of all), Lee, Hamm, Anderson and Jung are the biggest trade pieces. I'm not advocating we trade any of these guys either. But if the Tigers want a true upgrade, it will probably cost one or two of these guys (ala Tier 2 type prospects). Also, I want to add, that I think the Tigers if they were to do a deal, it'd be for multiple players with the same team. Look at what I referenced for the Pirates..... Tigers get: Mitch Keller K'Bryan Hayes David Bednar Thomas Harrington Pirates get: Rainer Lirizano Hamm Vierling I honestly think it'd cost something close to that for a package like that. Do I realistically think the Tigers should do it or would do something like that; No. But in terms of prospect capital at this deadline, I think thats pretty close to what it'd take...... I'm legit just talking about value. Lets say you were the Pirates GM and the owner told you to do a deal with the Tigers. (Work with me on this hypothetical). Would you do that deal if Rainer gets replaced by Briceno? I don't think so..... That's all I'm saying. The value's gonna be steep. Again, if Suarez doesn't cost a team a top 100 prospect, I'll be absolutely flabbergasted....... I think he will get a top 50 prospect and another decent B level prospect or two as well. But again, just my $0.02. I hope the Tigers do something like Max Anderson for a good reliever. Something along those lines. I hope they don't break the bank. But even if they do, I think it'd be more the second tier I listed versus the first.1 point

Herring isn't a fringe prospect. He is trending up pretty majorly, was just drafted last year. He has been lights out this year. That is a good get for McMahon. That tells me the asking price for Geno is huge.1 point

You've seemed open to liquidating prospects, which by definition are unproven, for established major leaguers, so I was throwing an admittedly ridiculous trade idea out there to take your temperature on the issue. You didn't bite, and I agree with your non-bite. This year's is a weak deadline class, which means the price will probably be higher than normal due to buyer-seller imbalance, so something like Jace Jung + Jaden Hamm for Eugenio Suarez just ain't gonna get it done. It's gonna take at least one numbered Pipeline guy. That being the case, I think we will be out on Suarez. I'm with you, we're getting a swing-and-miss bullpen guy at minimum, and probably a starter if we can swing that for a decent price. But I don't think it will be for high-profile guys with big baseball card numbers. I think it's gonna be more for under-the-radar guys.1 point

I'm with you. It makes logical sense, but if they think Ratledge can cut it, especially with Goff's help at the line, then I trust them. I trust them to do what is best for the overall line.1 point

Tigers execs got their message out to a few of the beat writers. They are going to be reasonably aggresive with the bullpen; But they aren't going to trade for rentals(sustainability) and are relying on Urquidy(sp) types to come back later in the season. I don't mind it. The offense has to fix itself. I see guys like Javy and Zach regressing to their levels. Greene, Keith, Meados, and Vierling should not be this bad.1 point

I don't think we're in the market for a full-time DH. We use the slot to keep guys in the batting order while giving them a break from the field. A full-time DH would have those guys totally benched instead. We've used seven different guys at DH just this month. As it is, the Tigers are 11th in WAR at DH, so it's not as though it's a black hole we need to fill.1 point

I highly doubt it. Suarez has 35 home runs. I read today that 11 teams have inquired and we know the Yankees are highly interested. I don't see Harris giving up a top 100 plus more, which is what I believe it will take1 point

I believe it’s been 177-27. This stretch sucks. But we’ll be able to laugh at it after the Tigers sweep the Dodgers in October.1 point

Bigbie? The guy who moved back a level and has been passed up repeatedly for promotion? He's more likely to be cut by next year's opening day than graduate to the bigs.1 point
