Free agency has been fine. Lorenzen was a big win, cashed in for what appears to be a legit prospect. Flaherty 1.0 was a big win, as was Torres. Dipping into free agency is generally pretty fraught, so getting some wins without tying yourself down to some terrible contracts is fine by me.4 points

What are the odds that all four of them reach their potential? I think they'll do well if two of them become above average players. I am not being negative here. I think their system is in good hands now and they'll be competitive for several years. I just don't think we can point to any set of future players and say that's when they'll be read to spend. It might be many years before they are 7 1/2 games in first place on August 16 again.2 points

To build on Lordstanley’s point, we are now 12-6 after coming off the 1-12 skein.2 points

All the above average children of families from Lake Wobegon who drove two hours to this game will go home disappointed, but with a life lesson that will only make them stronger.2 points

With seasons starting overseas I figured it was time to make a new thread... NDN had a 3 assist game before this too. There's always been talent there, he just is injured all the time Anton had an assist Big man has some skill1 point

Carp forgot the bullpen until he was already around second so he preceded to point at them about seven times at short, after third and in the dugout. He can't afford the fine.1 point

Because we gotta have New York vs New York, and Chicago vs Chicago, and Los Angeles vs Los Angeles, and Tampa vs Miami. All natural long standing bitter rivalries that just have to happen. Which is why once I become emperor of the world, my first order of business, well.... maybe second, is geographical realignment of MLB.1 point

The two times I've been there we stayed at that intersection, but not at that former structure. Can't tell you which ones, because you know, Vegas and all.1 point

I grew up a half mile from the Campbell-Ewald building from 1963 into the '80s, then bought a house a half mile from it in another direction where I lived until the end of 1991. So I lived in the shadow of Warren's tallest "skyscraper" for close to three decades. I never knew what it was almost until the moment I got a job at Doner (or, more exactly, W.B. Doner), and then I was like, oh, that's what Campbell-Ewald is.1 point

The idea that Trump abused middle school-aged girls and did criminal deals with Russian mobsters is so baked into his equation that actual positive proof might no longer have any practical effect. The bar for this guy is getting beyond merely low—it’s quickly disappearing altogether.1 point

For years it has frosted me the the ads "brought to you from your local Chevy Dealers" were always scenes shot around CA. OTOH, for a long stretch at least the aerial shot of the dealership lot that ended the local Ford dealer assoc ad was of Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor, which is at least the right state.1 point

It's not just trick plays, it's trick plays that actually work. Anyone can call anything a trick play. For example,1 point

When he got to three balls and two strikes I was going to post this was a good time for a double play and it happened before I could write it down.1 point

so what does that mean practically, that the US is done trying to pressure either side? Seems like typical Trump. Make a lot of noise, back one side, change your mind, make more noise, then when it turns out to actually be over his head, just declare the whole thing is not his problem.1 point

Brandon Young of Baltimore, who came into the game with a 0W 6L record with a 6.02 ERA and 1.56 WHIP has pitched a perfect 6 innings versus Houston. 62 pitches.1 point

I don't know why everyone is so eager to throw eight or nine or ten years at players, but I do think we'll get our top-end free agent signings once the system produces the core, basically once we get Max, McGonigle, Briceno, and Rainer up and running. Also, remember, it wasn't long ago when we couldn't sign top-end free agents because they simply wouldn't come here. I don't think we could've even this past offseason. Heck, we were the ones who threw the most dollars at Bregman and that didn't work. Perception of a go-nowhere franchise was a big part of it, although Harris has us almost out of those woods. But we will still struggle to get RH power hitters to come here as long as it's so much harder for them to jack bombs here. As for trades, I'm on board with Harris not liquidating key components of our system to pick up guys like Mason Miller. Harris doesn't want to **** up the plan, and I wouldn't want him to, either. As for Eduardo: that's been litigated here endlessly. My position is, I don't think it was Harris who screwed that pooch.1 point

The Tigers hit bottom (we hope) three Saturdays ago, July 26. With 56 games still to go, the Tigers' division lead had shrunk to 7.0 over Cleveland, they were 3.5 games behind Toronto who led the AL, and they were 0.5 games behind Houston for the bye into the ALDS. Since then the Tigers have gone 11-6 and, apart from losing a mere 0.5 game in the standings to Cleveland and neither gaining nor losing ground with Seattle, have gained on everyone else with now only 39 games to go. The Tigers have picked up: 3.0 games on Toronto; 2.5 games on Houston; 1.5 games on Kansas City; 4.0 games on Minnesota; 3.0 games on New York Yankees; 0.5 game on Boston; 5.0 games on Texas; and 5.0 games on Tampa.1 point

Maybe it's different motives but I don't care. I hope this is true. I hope everybody involved in that is held to account. I don't care if it's Trump, Biden, Clinton, Tom Hanks, Ernie Harwell, or Billy Graham, or Mister Rogers.... anybody who is known to have been in that world exploiting children deserve what's coming to them.1 point
