I was forced to sit through "Bye, Bye, Birdie" 🤮 in a theater at an impressionable age, and it's just been downhill for me with Musicals ever since. 😉3 points

When everything came down at the deadline, I'll admit that I was one who thought may be this would be OK. I was especially hopeful that Morton would continue on the path he'd been leading up to the deadline. It's pretty apparent to me that I totally misjudged the situation. Granted, would be hard to predict that total team performance would take such a complete 180. As others have said, I think the biggest failure was with SP; I too have been thinking that we would have been way better off with Keider and Melton - certainly couldn't have been worse. Obviously, they've been beset by other woes beyond the rotation, but it started there. And, as @gehringer_2 and @Sports_Freak pointed out, the system is bereft of promising pitching talent at the high minor level. That's a recipe for disaster.2 points

I'm one of the few that didn't care for it. I know I'm an outlier I guess and accept it. I generally hate musicals. I struggle understanding what they are singing. So when we watched the "movie" i had the subtitles on. I knew the history already. And reading the text made me miss the production somewhat. I don't know... I just didn't see the big deal. My wife saw it at the Fisher and loved it.2 points

It's objectively true as catalogued in this article that some of their roster decisions on pitchers have turned out to be wrong. No org is going to get it right all the time but Harris and Co have gotten enough wrong this season that it's hurting. Add that to the pitching injuries and they just can't pitch like they did down the stretch last season. That actually doesn't bother me that much. In modern sports with every athlete trained to a fine edge, and especially pitchers in baseball, you are going to have seasons where because of injuries alone the best laid plans gang aft agley. What bothers me more is the way the hitting has gone south. Too many guys seem to be going up there without a plan or with the wrong plan or too tight to execute a plan. Doesn't seem to comport with Hinch's mantras.2 points

This is all just market manipulation isn't it? Tariffs, tank Disney stock, tank Tylenol stock. All part of the theft from the American people to enrich Trump's lackeys and his family.1 point

By no means listen to my opinion on whether to see it. You can’t argue with its success and that people loved it. I’m the old dad in Monty Python’s holy grail who stops the singing. (Huge tracts of land)1 point

I felt the same way about the trade deadline and Morton. I was wrong. Part of my rationale with being willing to move on from Carpenter or another OF is to acquire pitching from that bit of OF depth that i think they have.1 point

Well, we really don't need 4 catching prospects or 8 infield prospects in our minor league system. As I've been saying, a strong minor league system is for more than to just feed the MLB team with talent, they're also an asset to acquire talent from other teams. The problem for the Tigers is that young minor league players are cheap labor compared to established quality players. Harris wasted 15 million dollars on a broken down pitcher who wanted to retire and ignored other quality arms who were much better. And his trade deadline pickups actually hurt our team more than helped. We may have been better off without Morton or Paddack. Giving Keider Montero and Melton those starts may have gotten us better results. We'll never know...1 point

well, if it turns out to be for making false statements to Congress, I can't think of an admin more at risk for having establishing a precedent for punishing that.1 point

Everyone loves the idea of Markkanen. Unfortunately the reality hasn't quite lived up to the hype (or the contract).1 point

I was skeptical before seeing it. It's good. You might want to check out the soundtrack first. The current "movie" that's out is a filmed Broadway performance they made in 2020 with the original actors. It's been rereleased for a temporary run in theaters. A lot less expensive than stage productions1 point

Other teams players are better than our players until they become our players then they are busts and also fire Harris and Hinch and Nabozny.1 point

We’ll never know, but I think it’s just as likely that they would stay on the track they’re on regardless of whether we win the World Series or miss the playoffs. Scott Harris famously has a plan and I think there’s a good chance he’s sticking to that plan, unless Baby Doc forces his hand, which I doubt would happen since he’s not Papa Doc.1 point

Wait, you mean to tell me that Ben Johnson didn't invent conditioning a defense to expect a particular thing from a particular set by running it multiple times, then doing something different out of the same set later? My entire worldview is shattered...1 point

I'm not that worried about the rushing defense. They've been pretty stout this year and really good at plugging holes. I'd be surprised if Henry runs free. I think the keys to victory are: 1) Making Lamar a little uncomfortable. It sounds dumb because it's almost impossible to do; he just takes off when he feels pressure. But if Hutch can get home once or twice in the first few drives, they can get some creative blitz packages in there, and just make Lamar see some ghosts, he will start taking off before he needs to. That's when our defensive line can get him, before he breaks contain and we are chasing him all over the field like two years ago. 2) Linebackers playing disciplined. One big piece that is different from two years ago is our linebacking corps. I think Jack Campbell, Alex Anzalone, and Derrick Barnes are one of the most underrated linebacking corps in football this year. Two years ago, it was the same three, but Campbell was a rookie in his 7th game ever. He got schooled. They need to be flying sideline to sideline this week. 3) The offense needs to be flawless. There is no room for a stalled start or missed assignments. They need to go into this game like they need to score every time they touch the ball. First to 50 wins. That likely won't ultimately be the case, but it needs to be the attitude. The Bills showed you that it's possible to score some points on the Baltimore defense. Go execute. I would also agree with you that to the extent they can control TOP, that will work in their favor. But more than anything, just score points. Every. Single. Time. I'll take a 1-play, 75-yard pass to Jamo in 0:08 over a 14-play, 68-yard methodical drive that results in a field goal. Whether the defense is gassed or not, Lamar is going to score points.1 point

teams seem to have figured out the Tigers system for scouting their pitchers because whatever secret sauce they were giving hitters to prep them in the first half of the season isn't working anymore. They aren't hitting anyone.1 point

https://youtu.be/L4TrHoJPNaE?si=WHmKKScZf3Tzpv8b It does feel like Todd is a good fit for where the team is at right now He was asked a question about getting Copp back and Todd volunteered JT Compher's name to the discussion about how both players had two games to them. One that was passive and hesitant, and one game that was engaged and pushing. Felt like he was calling them both out to play hard all the time or the wings would find other options, which I love. He also spoke about Finnie twice in very positive terms. It probably won't be this season but I think Finnie will be a NHL contributor, which is amazing for a 7th round pick. His game seems very translatable to the NHL from what little I've seen him play.1 point

My wife and i along with a couple thousand other folks had the honor or watching a preview screening of Ken Burns' new film American Revolution last night. The preview was held on the Battlefield in Yorktown, Va. The same grounds that General Cornwallis surrendered (actually, it was the General's second in command) to Gen Washington (it was Washington's second in command). Really nice night, field drills and presentation by the "Commander's Own" drum and bugle corps and Yorktown's Fife and Drum Corps, along with exerts from the six part series. This preview was made specifically for this event with several scenes featuring Yorktown and the Historic Triangle. When we got there my wife flashed back to 1981, the last time she was on this part of the Battlefield. She was a reporter. It was President Reagan's first speech after recovering from his gunshot wounds. The commemorated the 200th anniversary of the Victory at Yorktown. I tagged along that afternoon, but ended up about a half mile or so farther down the road. My view of the event in 1981 was watching the line of Secret Service Agents while hearing only snippets of the speech.1 point
