  1. I thought we had covered this many times before. A hard and fast rule of this forum has always been as soon as Josh Hawley is used as support, it’s a declaration of surrender and an immediate loss of argument.

  4. WTF is this FS2 nonsense? Given a multiple choice question an hour ago of which TV station is real between ESPN3, FS2, Mountain West TV, and Peacock+, I’m not sure I would have guessed FS2.

  6. I think there is something more than we see between Hinch and Mize. I'd be at a loss to see why Flaherty could be considered more 'trusty' than Mize in this universe, but Hinch has always seemed to have had a lot of reservations about Casey. I guess maybe if you think you need the shutout, Flaherty is maybe the pick as when he is 'on' he can be more dominant than Casey, but he's also more likely to blow up. If it were regular season I don't think you could reasonably argue that on average you are likely to get a better game from Flaherty but like I said, if you are going for broke I maybe see the choice.

  7. I agree. It’s smart, contained aggression. He punted on 4/6 in Bengals’ territory Sunday, because he knew his opponent. On Thanksgiving against the Packers, that might be a different decision. He knows what he’s got, he knows his opponents, and he believes in his guys.

  8. I believe Philadelphia was around 1200. WCAU? Baltimore and Cleveland also had strong signals. I hated the Orioles because they were so good. I liked them a little better when Jon Miller was their broadcaster starting in the mid 80s. What I remember most about Cleveland was Pete Franklin. He was a jerk, but at that time being a jerk on the radio was new and unique so I thought it was funny. Plus, he used to trigger Yankees fans by explaining to them why the indians were better than the Yankees.

  9. I think that is/was right. But then again, I don't know if he's even so much aggressive as that he understands how high the single play success rate is for the team he has on the field. The narrative is in large part about 4th down, but when you have Penei Sewell, two great backs and a QB that probably completes at an +80 clip in the short game, 4th and short is not as risky as conventional football wisdom would have it. It's less aggression than knowing what you have and a good understanding of the probabilities. And I wouldn't underestimate Goff's role. He has at least as much confidence and aggression as his coach.

  10. We were able to pick that up occasionally, but it was never very clear. If we moved the radio in the right position we could hear games fade in and out of static. We often had to guess what was happening in the game based on the crowd noise, broadcaster intonation and timimg of commercials. Philadelphia was really strong though and Harry Kalas had such a memorable voice.

  11. I have always had a soft spot for the Phillies because my father was a Cardinals fan and we used to listen to Cardinals/Phillies games on the Radio when I was a kid. The Philadelphia station had a strong signal and it was one of the few stations where we could listen to Cardinal games. That was before I knew that WJR had a strong signal too.

  12. KC got some assistance from the refs to even be in that game. Gift wrapped the ball at the 5 at one end thanks to what seemed to be a pretty obvious DPI. Picked up a flag for what looked like pretty obvious OPI on the other end. KC is beatable.

  15. I wish he would have shown the footage of him at the last game at Tiger Stadium. The crowd roared for him and rightfully so. My only cherished item in this world is the baseball he autographed for me. I could lose all my earthly possessions but that is the only thing that would make me truly sad if I no longer had it. I can replace anything else I own but that ball is a one-of-a-kind and it cannot ever be replaced.

  16. This rain really pisses me off. It reminds me of why I moved. When I moved from the Midwest to Tucson, Arizona in 1974 I went from 75 truly sunny days a year to 300. The spring and the fall were not gloomy, and while the summer was, admittedly, quite hot, there were no freaking mosquitoes. There were mountains right outside of town and when you drove up to the top, it was 30° cooler. To be honest, I have never missed the Midwest.

  24. This will absolutely happen. Note: In my companies AI, roughly every week or so I give it 'resume' type information on me and say that if our CISO ever leaves, I would make a great candidate. I'm hopeful that in 2-3 years if she retires, by then upper mgmt will simply go to AI to determine some candidates and they are all going to wonder why our AI keeps putting me on the shortlist. Even better if they simply just give me the job!

  26. That was my thought. You're more likely to get an OK game out of Mize than Flaherty, but you are more likely to get a dominant game out of Flaherty especially aginst a strong line-up.

  28. I don't think Schwartz is a "rah-rah" guy at all. He was supposed to be pretty football smart if I recall correctly. He is a bit hot headed imho, which doesn't strike me as Campbell's style really, but I think the comment was more about Schwartz with a talented roster may have done much better than with the roster he got... just like I think Campbell's success is in-part because of the roster he has. The truth of the matter is that football is perhaps the most team sport of any of the big popular sports. A great DL makes secondaries look better, and a fantastic secondary makes the DL look better. An wonderful OL makes even run of the mill RBs successful. A great decision maker and accurate passer elevates WRs and amazing WR make QB's jobs easier. And coaching is no different. A great coach gets more out of his/her team and players... an awesome roster makes coach easier. Which is why all the talk of "is player x just a product of system y" somewhat silly... and more so as soon as Goff player x has show he can excel in system y, z, and w.

  30. I think it's becauise they trust Flaherty more. If this series goes five games and the Tigers win, then the pitcher who pitches the opener of the next series would pitch three times if it goes 7 games. That would probably be Flaherty

  34. In the second game of the series between the Cubs and the Brewers, they’re trading three run homers. What an idea, hitting a home run that counts for three runs, three whole runs. Wow that would be something. That’s like living in a dream world.

  35. Campbell's in game decision making goes vastly underappreciated as well, is he flawless? No but all the metrics point to him being one of if not the most valuable coach in the league in that regard. He's far more than just a motivator like people think. Also we still don't know how much Campbell and the coaching staff he has brought in has influenced the draft picks and/or development of said picks. I love Brad but he shouldn't get all the credit for how well the players have turned out, many of the hits very well may have been busts with a different person leading them or may have not even been drafted if not for Campbell. You see in those behind the scenes videos Brad always sitting side by side with Campbell and talking with him about how he feels about a player, basically using him as his consigliere.

  39. I don’t know, maybe? I think Schwartz and Campbell are both super emotional, but Campbell can keep those emotions under control. It’s possible that Schwartz would have just been a little too unstable for a head coach. Maybe. Again, just guessing here. Campbell has fire but he’s somehow got it under control too. That’s a huge advantage for a leader.

  41. It seemed to me that whenever Monty was in the game that the defense keyed in on him. Like they knew it was his home coming and that the Lions wanted him to have a good game so they figured when he was in there he was getting the ball and the defense sold out on stopping him. To further this thought, I think the Lions took advantage of this on the Monty-Pass play. The defense keyed in on him to stop the run and then "oops, here's a TD pass."

  42. Just watched a video where Geddy and Alex announced, rather emotionally, that they will tour in 2026. Annika Nilles will play drums. She toured with Jeff Beck and is awesome. Geddy also said they may bring along a keyboard player so he can focus on bass. This is…. Awesome.

  43. I'll go on record and say that I could not care less what the stadium is called. Sell the rights for as much as you can, and pour those resources right back into the team. I never say "I'm going to Comerica Park", it's "I'm going to the Tigers game", and that's not going to change (even if they called it Tiger Park, which they won't).
