He has all the superficial skills that a talented offensive mind like LaFleur can take advantage of and that casual fans can get excited about. But he has none of the skills of a guy like Jared Goff who processes quickly pre- and post-snap to get the ball where it needs to be. Love has the playground-ball highlight reel, Goff ends up top of the league in all the QB stats that matter.2 points

So much of the game strategy seemed focused around Carpenter last season. It was particularly more noticeable in the playoffs especially in the Guardian series. He forces decisions on the opposing manager and often those decisions put Tork and other RH bats in better match-ups. (I love the 3-batter rule) He may push a RH starter out earlier. In a series, he helps overwork the other team's LH relievers. There definitely is an advantage to being so uneven, especially when you have pinch-hitters who can take advantage of the situation like the Tigers have the last two seasons..2 points

the only disappointing thing about this game was that no one clocked cam whitmore afterwards.2 points

When Dan’s head coaching career is done he will be in demand as the next hot OC prospect.1 point

Yeah, pretty disappointed with him. It was a great night for him to step up, and he blew it.1 point

Don't know where to put this so this is as good as any I guess. Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on lake Superior. Some of us are old enough to remember, but others probably not. Many remember the song about it by Gordon Lightfoot. There are a few documentaries made for the anniversary. I watched this one which I thought was pretty good. Enjoy if you like this kind of stuff; Gales of November: The Final Voyage of the Edmund Fitzgerald | Documentary | FOX6 Milwaukee1 point

Imagine telling a Wizards fan before the game that: Detroit wouldn't dress 5 of their top 8 rotation players Cade will shoot 31% from the field A two-way player will be Detroit's second leading scorer And you are still going to lose.1 point

this is a better win than beating philly without embiid! only duren and cade and a bunch of g league guys, on a back to back with travel, and they still pulled it out. i know the wizards are awful, but theyre still an nba team (barely, but still), and the pistons won with daniss jenkins being the key man!1 point

there is no "playoffs" in those sports, that's an american invention. in europe, the regular season decides the champion. if you win, you get rewarded by being in an extra competition just for champions the next year. the champions league/copa libertadores, etc is a separate competition from the domestic league. america only has one league and one competition (which devalues the regular season and essentially turns it into an exhibition before the "playoffs" which actually decide the champion). in europe, you actually get rewarded for winning the competition. and - like i said before - punished for being bad. they both have their pros and cons. but europe is much more likely to see the major clubs form a us style competition w/o relegation than america is to ever doing the euro style thing. it makes no sense foe current stakeholders in us sports to give up their guaranteed profits. europe almost did it a few years ago but the fan backlash was so great almost all the big clubs abandoned it (except madrid).1 point

The rule is working to fix the problem it was designed to address, returns. And it’s closer to actual football than the old kickoff rules that featured wedges and wedge busters. I’m curious if someone can figure out a way to incorporate surprise onside kicks. I think maybe adjusting the landing zone to allow for shorter onside kicks and to make receiving team blockers play off the line. That might lead to slightly less yardage on each return, if the coverage team can get a little more depth before reaching a blocker and clogging up return lanes. Honestly, the rule is pretty good if one doesn’t pine for the good old days that really were that great.1 point

I'm sorry, Libs of Tik Tok won't be enough. I also need confirmation from End Wokeness, Catturd and Gunther Eagleman before I can fully accept things as they are. Maybe even toss in some Babylon Bee for added credibility.1 point

Does anybody think about the possibility of these pitchers accused of gambling might have been threatened into it? And if they were, they can't say anything because their families might be under threat back at home.1 point

OPS+ is kind of a subset of WAR (except WAR uses wOBA, wRC+ instead). As to which one is better to use, it depends on the question. If you are only interested in offensive contribution, then I would not look at WAR. I would just look at OPS+ or wRC+. If you are interested in comparing the overall value of players at different positions, then WAR is better, because players who contribute more than just hitting need to get credit for that.1 point

Rule says the receiving team gets it 25 yards from where the kicking team kicked off. So normally, that's the 40. After a defensive penalty, that's the 25. After an offensive penalty, it would be the +45, basically field goal range.1 point

I still say MLB is largely at fault for partnering with gambling organizations. Sure, the pitchers broke the rules and should be banned from the game and punished for whatever cimes they committed. But MLB is sending a very bad message with their hypocrisy. This kind of thing was inevitable.1 point

The statues were erected by groups like sons and Daughters of the Confederacy to honor those who REBELLED AGAINST OUR NATION. I'm glad you support TRAITORS? Most of us acknowledge that several of our founders owned slaves. It's just that Generals and politicians who were traitors. I've spent a major portion of my life living south of the Mason Dixon Line and prefer an honest portrayal of the folks. Not the made up history many of us of a certain age were taught. To those people history does hurt. That's why they tried to whitewash it.1 point

Speaking of disposable numbers, but for indispensable players, here at the 5:00 mark is Trammell wearing #69 in spring training in 1977. Whitaker is spotted at 2:30, but I can't make out his number. Parrish is already in his #13 at 6:37. Bittersweet seeing so much of Fidrych in that, as it would have been just weeks or even days before his injury.1 point

Here's Logan beating out an infield hit at 27:24. Rod Allen laughs and says "when you've got that kind of speed, you're going to be rewarded" and adds "I would expect Logan to try to steal here". "If he can master the art of hitting the ball down the ground ... and utilizing his speed, he's going to have a bright future". At 29:10 Logan goes from 1st to 3rd on a single by Polanco to left. Logan scores on a bases loaded sac fly by Craig Monroe at 33:10. At 1:50:45 Logan hits his first of two career home runs, which would be his only one as a Tiger.1 point

At the 37:55 mark of this clip, Nook Logan is in as a pinch runner for Rondell White. Logan is then called by the color guy "probably the fastest man on the team, for both teams". Logan goes from 1st to 3rd on a single at 39:15. Logan scores at the 42:05 when Brandon Inge beats out a potential double play ball.1 point

Here's Sanchez bunting for a leadoff, first pitch base hit at the 10min 10s mark. He steals 2nd at the 11min 40s mark. Then at the 1:13:40 mark he bunts in a run home from 3rd base!1 point
