JB Bickerstaff is the Dan Campbell of the NBA. LOL Intense and his players play their arse off for him.4 points

yeah, there is definitely some guess work involved in WAR. It's a good back of the napkin stat for comparing players especially over a long career, but I think it gets overused.2 points

They assign the positional adjustment to both owar and dwar which I agree is confusing. So, they end up double counting and they don't add up to WAR. If they just took the positional adjustment out of the dwar part, a full-time dh would have 0 dwar.2 points

This is a picture of me and my friends in 1973. I’m seated in the lower right hand corner. I was 21 and had narrowly escaped the jaws of death from the London Flu epidemic six months earlier. I was lucky to be alive and grateful. Two of these guys have already died and a third is on the verge undergoing his third bout of chemo. The guy doing the chemo treatment was the only chainsmoker among us. Go figure. We lived in a former African-American brothel on 5th Street in Lafayette, Indiana, a street in a shabby lumpen proletarian neighborhood. which had a train track running right down the middle of it numerous times a day. After the first day, you never noticed the noise anymore, and it became white noise that blended in with the hi-fi that was constantly playing the Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Captain Beefheart, and John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra. Unsurprisingly, the house had a dozen barely larger than closet sized rooms and rent was $10 a month when previously across the river at Purdue University in an off-campus neighborhood I had spent $80 a month. it was a layabout’s paradise. We were legends in our own minds.2 points

What I can't understand is how Trump supporters are perfectly fine with their God sexually assaulting children, but if they find out he was giving Clinton a Monica Lewinski, that will be the ballgame for Dementia Don.2 points

There's some inside baseball sour grapes at play here (ie. Trump refusing to endorse for a Governor/Senate run in Georgia) and don't want to down play that. However, Marge certainly also recognizes more than others that Donald Trump is increasingly becoming an albatross politically. And on top of that is 80 years old, his brain is mashed potatoes and, eventually, that he's going to die. Trump has, to date, snuffed out the ambition of a lot of GOP reps, but as he continues to become more of a liability politically and as he continues to fade mentally, it wouldn't surprise me if you start to see more jailbreaks. Just surprised we're seeing more from the far right, although let's be honest, the mainstream/moderate types in the GOP are absolute squishes2 points

It's culture shock watching NBA players that are severely outmanned and fighting for their jobs play hard and hustle their butts off.2 points

One of the articles mentioned he did go up against a top ranked pitcher and got multiple hits against him. Overall not great competition, but it's still good to see him succeed. Skubal went to games and posted "he's ready."2 points

Boras to Cohen: Steve, next Winter I look forward to discussing Tarik's free agency with you and the Mets. Obviously, it would not be appropriate to discuss any terms while he is under control of the Tigers, but he did mention that he loves coming to NY for award season, and getting bagels at his favorite store at 440 10th Avenue. That's 440 and 10, Steve. If you are interested, go to 440 and 10, Steve.2 points

Theyre one of the youngest teams in college football and they play like it. this is a rebuilding year. get rid of wink, build on that very young oline and next year get a top receiver. you have the #1 rb recruit to go with the #1 qb recruit to go with an improving, young oline. the offense should be fine long term. the defense? lets see. they had an incredible run of coaching up talent under harbaugh. a collection of 3 and 4 stars who played their way into being nfl draft picks. now that he's gone, we'll see if that continues. but you have to get rid of wink, the dude is just not a college dc. go get your retirement package being a consultant for one of your nfl buddies. we'll see about sherrone. harbaugh wasnt the master of late game time management either.1 point

Damn, you win the week. It’s a real address for a real deli and they have bagels. https://heavenlymarketnyc.com/1 point

How is this game this close? Michigan should be up 3 td’s. Not sure why they haven’t run the ball more. Chip Lindsay is the college version of John Morton.1 point

IMO, she is setting herself up for a presidential run. She is moderating her craziness for this reason. To be fair, I even think AOC is toning down her stances a bit as well for the same reason.1 point

The guy on the video was probably from Flint. Or at the very least, he was mixing terms from Flint and Detroit style coneys. A true Flint style coney uses something called coney sauce, and It's made by Abbott's Meat, a local meat provider/butcher. Places will add things to provide their own touch, but all true Flint style coneys start with a base of Abbott Meat's coney sauce. Abbott's just closed down after over 100 years in business. So Koegels has picked up the torch and is now making the sauce. https://www.amazon.com/Abbotts-Hotdog-Coney-Sauce-4lbs/dp/B00FA8NKCM1 point

Because outside of being gay and having photos to prove a gag act, there is really nothing that can be in there that will move the needle in a meaningful way. This is all good fodder but there won’t be ramifications for any men.1 point

I would always rather see good statistics than bad statistics. It might not mean anything, but it also might mean something. Players go through hot streaks, cold streaks and periods of adjustment making small sample sizes very sketchy, but the more good stretches a player has the better.1 point

For a lot of people they simply can’t get past the idea that a minority got something they felt entitled to. I have plenty of white friends o acquaintances still bitter because their 3.5 GPA wasn’t good enough for Ann Arbor and they assume a minority took their place . It’s the same lesson I mentioned before avout the “unfairness” of trans athletes for females. Sometimes in life there are obstacles beyond your control and you will think it’s unfair. Deal with it. It’s not a travesty you got stuck with another school or lost a volleyball game. My friends in middle school had to play basketball against Chris Webber who was the size of a grown man in 7th grade while we all had chubby baby fat. It happens.1 point

I doubt she's changed at all, I don't particularly care if she has or hasn't frankly. The infighting spilling out from behind closed doors and into the public is naturally going to be a source of schadenfreude. And in the short term is useful (long term debatable, but none of us have control over that) And as much as Trump's supporters AND many of his opponents build him up into this mythical force of nature that cannot be stopped, the moment where jailbreaks would start to occur when evidence of the ground shifting started to become noticed (ie. The elections last week) was inevitable. The Epstein stuff was gasoline on the fire. These are politicians after all... They are ambitious, they want to move up, and to do so they often run to where the American public is going in the aggregate. A diminished Trump hobbled by a lousy economy and dogged by the Epstein stuff is a liability, not an asset1 point

I'm not convinced she's a changed person yet. It could be that she's starting to reconsider, or, more likely, that she's thinking ahead to supporting things that will enable Republicans to stay in power (at least she's saying that this would be by producing results for average Americans, so there's that). While she'll probably never be somebody I'd vote for, it would be nice to have people in Congress who are decent people I just happen to disagree with. It'll take time and results before I'm convinced.1 point

The Clinton/Trump thing seems like the reddest of red herrings. But, if it gets couch ****er level traction with the normies...then cool. They deserve it. All of it.1 point

This reminds me of in 30 Rock when Jenna says very obviously that she's going to use her sexuality to get something and Liz tries to warn her off because its usually something very trivial and it usually ends up going badly because the maitre d is unimpressed or something.1 point

It really is a next man up attitude that is permeating thru the team right now. I constantly hear this from Piston players when being interviewed. Credit to everybody that is part of the team.1 point

I assume people know that MRI's are often used to confirm dementia. It is a very difficult condition to diagnose, and the MRI is the last and most invasive step after ruling several other things out. Or maybe he needs Tommy John...1 point

When I was in New Mexico sometime in the 1970s I purposely hiked up a mountain side because it was covered in clouds, and I remember being somewhat disappointed when I entered the cloud bank because it was nothing more than fog. It’s not like I thought it would be the texture of cotton candy or anything, but it had never occurred to me before that clouds are nothing more than fog.1 point

32 assists. That's huge...winning is great but it's just an exciting team to watch. They go all out, full blast, all the time.1 point

I've been a diehard fan since the early 70s. I don't recall such an unlikely week as this. So much fun to watch! Now they are off until Monday and hopefully the starters are back.1 point

I remember Nancy Reagan as the "just say no" drug lady. Pep rally in the parking lot before bowling league night, 5 or 6 guys making a car look like Cheech & Chong. As we passed it around we would say Nancy said no. Everyone would giggle. Best pot here came from Michigan. You guys did good. Thanks much!1 point

I remember perusing the Sporting News Baseball Register when I was a kid and seeing that D*ck Stewart had hit 66 home runs for the Lincoln Chiefs in the Western League in 1956 and I was absolutely dazzled by that.1 point

I've mellowed a little with the injury report. I still think they ought to win this game. I think Philly is a basket case ready to blow. They're talented, but there are too many personalities and they're too poorly coached. If the Lions play their A game, they'll win. That said, I will no longer say they should win this game in the same way they should beat the Giants or should have beat the Vikings.1 point

Got a text from work at 3 pm with a picture of stuff that 'needed to be put away now.' I work from Sunday-Thursday. So I wasn't at work today. Our work shift is 6-2:30, so even if I was at work today I would have been gone. Sigh. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to a foot surgery-which will have me on leave for 10 weeks of much needed rest. I already had the other foot done, so I have a good idea of what's to come. Knee scooters are awesome!1 point

I still look at RBI just for fun too. Pitcher wins are no longer fun or beautiful though. That is a pretty much meaningless stat given the way the game is played today.1 point

All you need to know about Leyland is the way he got emotional when the team won the division in 2011, after the city went through the recession and bankruptcy and all that... he grew up in a very blue collar world so he understood the city. He just started talking and realizing what he said and he started to choke up... that's character. Then he danced with the fellas in the celebration. I remember the first time I saw him with the Pirates... "hey, it's Harry Dean Stanton!"1 point

I enjoy my visits home because I see a lot of the peculiarities of Detroit. The overly-familiar but insincere coney waitress is one of my favorites. "Waaht kin I getcha, sweetie" rasped through lungs that have more soot in them than a coal miner's.1 point
