  1. I really dislike the narrative that nobody can compete with the Dodgers. This year's World Series was arguably the most competivive World Series in history. It went seven games wiith one game going 18 innings and the 7th game also going into extra innings. During the regular season, four teams won more games than the Dodgers.

  2. Aside from the fact that 'the Bible' is a book, not a sentient entity and thus not capable of 'smartness', the statement "Atheism is a Religion" is foolishness. An atheist may believe any number of things are true that may or may not be true, and he may hold some of those beliefs in dogmatic fashion, but he does not believe it is true that God exists, so whatever you call his belief system, it is by definition not religion. And English is certainly a rich enough language that that kind of inarticulateness is unnecessary. cf: re·li·gion: /rəˈlij(ə)n/ noun the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods.

  4. People that support the current admin don’t get to lecture or try to educate others about the Bible. That’s not how it works anymore. They lost that right with 45/47. They’ve proven their doctrine invalid

  5. Hearing Spoelstra's post game interview, it's clear what he thinks about the Pistons. He said the Heat have been playing well, but last night was the first time this year they faced a team on a higher level. He praises Detroit's defense, how they cut off the passing lanes and are "relentless." He said the Heat will grow from the experience, to see what that next level looks like. It's still a bit surreal to hear that, after several years of bottom of the league Pistons ball.

  6. What’s with the hat? “America is Back”? Is that the new one? America is back to what? Back to killing foreign people indiscriminately? Back to rounding up colored folks on the street and disappearing them? Back to destroying government records and refusing to release reports on the economy? Back to the halcyon days before the terror of germ theory and internal medicine? Back to limiting government help to encouraging well-fed people to pray for others? Back to presidents threatening their political enemies with arrest and execution? Am I close?

  9. Are we seriously still debating the value of pitchers because they don't pitch every game? Pitchers don't have to play every game like position players have to because a pitcher has five times the impact on winning or losing a game as a position player does. That's why a pitcher can be just as valuable starting 30 games in a season as a position player is starting 150 games. Top-of-the-line pitchers are worth every penny that top-of-the-line position players are. I would like to sign Skubal to a number of years, although preferably not ten, and if it takes $40 million a year to do that, it's worth it. I mean, it's worth it just for the idea that if Skubal commits to Detroit long-term, that's going to signal to the rest of the market that Detroit is committing to winning, and that's going to make us a lot more attractive a destination than we are now.

  11. they settled the lawsuit. just like they'll settle the lawsuit all those "injured players" brought because they had to do football hazing. woe is them. they'll never recover and have to live with ptsd for the rest of their days. the important part is that their lawyers will get at least 40% plus costs! anyhoo. fitzgerald is ok, i guess. he turned down michigan before, so sparty fans will hang their hat on that as somehow indicating msu is a better job. he's stuck in the 90s with game theory, but his teams were always fundamentally sound. we'll see if he can develop the "msu mindset" necessary to win there: a single psychotic obsession with michigan.

  20. But then Chris says "I've spent the money, I've given you the tools to build it, so build it with what I've given you". Spending doesn't always work. It hasn't for the Padres or Mets, but it did for the Rangers and Dodgers. But they don't have to go crazy with it -they are only one or two players away from getting to a World Series. Seems like they were one consistent hitter away from getting to the ALCS this year. Maybe a healthy Torres makes that difference, but we've won the Wild Card round two years in a row and lost the ALDS in 5 games two years in a row. Anything short of the ALCS now should be considered a failure. They can get there with just two good free agents. I don't think they're going to do much of anything. I feel like we'll be grateful just to get Michael King, if we even get him (and because he might be the only decent FA, we'll overinflate him and be disappointed when he just does his normal thing) But this is the time. NOW is the time to go for it. Even if the mega prospects pan out, they won't be really good until 2029/2030. They could lose 3 starting pitchers after this season. And I know people have fallen out of love with Jack Flaherty, but I still think he can bounce back strong in 2026. That's his M.O., ,up and down. It seemed like Flaherty would have one-inning meltdowns, but was really good except for that. And Mize was really good except for the middle third of the season. Skubal, Mize, Flaherty - all gone after 2026 is a real possibility. I like Troy Melton and Reese Olson, but that's not enough - and 2027, if it even happens, is going to be Jobe's TJ-rebound year and we know how that usually goes. and let's face it - Melton's going to end up getting TJ surgery, right? Because it seems like they ALL get it. Now's the time Then what happens with your mega prospects like McGonigle and Max Clark. If they are doing well in Toledo - do you call them up? If you add them to the 40 man in 2026 does that mean they can't play in the minors during the labor stoppage in '27 (which will happen and could take the whole season away). I feel like Chris got burned on Javy and remembers dad getting burned on Jordan Zimmermann and just isn't going to do that again. Maybe the philosophy up at the top is just be good enough to sell a lot of tickets and merch, we're never going to win the whole thing while Ohtani is still playing. Do they get extremely creative with Skubal? A similar style contract as Ohtani where you save now but pay him like he's active when he's 50? I feel like that's the only way we keep him and what happens post-labor stoppage with a contract like that? There is going to be some sort of Salary Cap. The owners aren't going to budge this time. It might not be the same as the NFL/NHL model, and could be a very elastic type of cap, but there's going to be something. The unbalance is totally out of hand. When a superstar becomes available, it feels like its always going to be Dodgers, Mets, Yankees and maybe a 4th team pops up from time to time, but it sucks Now's The Time. Bird knows

  28. Flaherty and Torres are both on one year deals—no bearing on signing Skubal after this season. I doubt it will get in the way of signing another starting pitcher and bullpen help.

  30. Most impressive win of the season. 3rd game in 4 nights. 2nd game of a back to back where they had to travel. Arrived at the hotel at 4AM. This isn't the Pacers or Nets either. Miami was 3rd in the east to start the day.

  32. Until he makes a big move at some point, he is going to get criticized. If all he does is re-sign free agents and they miss the playoffs next year or even if they make the playoffs and don't go far, he is going to be roasted. Fans expect contenders to make bold moves during the off-season and/or at the deadline. Fair or not, that is the same thing with any fanbase. This is not unique to the Tigers or Harris.

  37. I’m going to guess that as I explore up & down the various highways in the northern confines of my new home base in Delaware.. frantically searching for elusive Italian delicatessen that can create my favorite sandwich (eggplant, mozzarella & broccoli rabe w/balsamic glaze), this could be suspicious activity?? What will they think when I have to make the extraordinary decision to cross over state lines & waterways of Philadelphia to extend my search area? I will, perhaps at moments, break into weird sounding foreign dialects….. both uttered when I am failing to get my search specifications understood, AND when I make a breakthrough and get the exact coordinates of my final destination. There will be furtive, suspicious behavior as I look to smuggle stated delicacy back to the First State. After all, my family motto often uttered by the Neopolitans and Sicilians on my father’s side - “ Que mangia ne morte”, which is of course a lie, but anything you’re saying in Italian sounds wise. Even when it’s nonsensical and could get me escorted into an ice truck for my suspicious behavior, coupled with my insistence for speaking non -American. But sometimes you just gotta have that eggplant mozzella and broccoli rabe sandwich. You just gotta.

  40. Sorry I'm so late to answer your question. The 3rd base coach has more than one thing to relay to the runner coming in as well as any other runner approaching 2nd. Unfortunately, he only has 2 hands. Generally, if the runner needs to slide, he will be using both hands to indicate a slide and to which side of the bag. If a slide is not necessary, the left hand will be raised to indicate a stop at third with or without rounding the bag. The right hand will be pointing to where the ball is or where it is heading. If there is a second runner heading toward second, often the coach will be looking at that runner to insure he is catching the signals he is giving. So, as you can see the 3rd base coach has multiple duties all at the same time. Hope this helped.
