  1. Calibri has “lib” right there in its name! HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE IT!!!

  2. I don't think it's that.... I think they're just being assholes in general. "They" did something different so we have to change it back because whatever reason they had for doing it was "woke". They would cut their own dicks off if it "owned the libs". That's how stupid and deranged these people are now.

  3. I really don't see much evidence that the team performance of the last two years is all because of Harris. I expect to see more evidence at the MLB level of Harrises influence soon, but I have not seen it yet.

  6. The rumor hasn't been picked up more probably because the Pinafore guy behind it is a nobody and Sports Illustrated is an AI slop farm that bears no resemblance to its former self.

  7. Correlation does not prove causation and saying phrases like "I have no words" is not not a persuasive argument either. I see Hinch and Fetter having an impact at the major league level. I don't see Harris having as much of an impact at that level, at least not yet. The Tigers would not be doing what they have done the last two years without the players, manager and pitching coach which Avila provided. Avila was terrible, but when you collect prospects for long enough (way too long in his case) you can build up a good base of talent.

  11. It's always been my opinion that Avila knew what needed to be done - he knew where DD had let things atrophy. All the things he talked about were basically all the same things Harris talks about, but he wasn't that up to speed himself when he started, and he brought insufficient creativity and urgency to the task. But the one thing we never give Al any benefit of the doubt about is that you don't just start firing people willy-nilly in the Ilitch organization. Some of the inertia could have been coming from ownership unwilling to dump loyal employees abruptly. Now without doubt, he was a disaster at trades. No need to cut him any slack there.

  12. It's pretty clear based on industry consensus from myriad articles that the Tigers were way behind on Player Dev at a time it was really taking off in the industry. The turnaround started when Garko took over for Littlefield, and went into overdrive when Harris took over.

  16. At the risk of drawing more fire on this point, a key reason I would like to re-sign him is that it would send a signal to the market that we are committing to winning, although that might help us a lot more this offseason than next.

  18. This kind of fits here or maybe in the investment thread. Topic of conversation on a local FB page about a potential data center around Cornhole somewhere. Good conversation so far but it is FB so that won't last long. It gave me a thought, and some/many here may be too young to remember this. AI generated via Twitter Grok. Used that for an image before and like the results, but not this time. Went back and forth for a bit and still not happy, but it works. Nancy Reagan and the just say no to drugs back in the 80s.

  19. Pujols was moved, Cabrera was moved, Verlander was moved, Bryce Harper was moved, Soto was moved, Sale was moved, Ohtani was moved. It's hardly a Detroit thing. You can blame the teams but it's mostly a system that is cooked into the CBA.

  21. I haven’t watched any interviews, but when I read where Harris said “no one is untouchable“ and that he’s willing to “listen” this means the organization is not desperate, that they’re not panicking, and they will not be easy prey and it’s going to take quite a bit to pry anything loose of substance from the club. It’s his way of dealing from strength instead of weakness regardless of optics. Of course I’m an inveterate optimist and I like reading the most positive intent into things.

  23. there's a critique in there about feminism, the legal process we allow to rule our lives, and how changes in the law post 1968 have altered american life... but i'm too focused on michigan's head coach to make it.

  24. it's not the particular behavior, it's superior/inferior relationship that is the parallel between the cases and that is the bette noir for the institution. Under the ruling social paradigm all relationships are power mediated, we are all weak sisters who can't stand up and tell our bosses to bug off or have the guts to just quit when we find ourselves working for a jerk. Now just for the sake of being arch I've overstated the critique, there is a lot of potential of abuse in a University, but I'm a lot more concerned about between students and faculty than coaches or admins and staff, particularly at place like UM where it is really easy for staff to change jobs within the system if they find themselve where they don't want to be. And the fact is, life is more complex than simple rules. If my now 30 yr BIL the professor and my graduate studying sister had been at michigan under these rules when they met, he probably would have been fired, she'd have missed her soul mate, and I've have missed a good friend.

  27. I just went to ChatGPT and asked about the possibility of using TeSlaa at the Tight End position. I was informed he was an offensive lineman. Now I understand why he hasn't see much playing time. I should have followed up whether he could be used at center

  28. My personal speculation has always been that Hinch was part of Tork's problems. Early in his career Hinch constantly talked about trying to get Tork to only swing at pitches he could drive, to the point where he had to go back to Toledo to recover some plate coverage. I won't hold that against Hinch because no philosophy can work for every hitter, but just to point out that nobody's going to bat 1000 with player development - it's a 'people' science, meaning to some some extent it isn't one at all.

  29. Also saying who was GM at the time they were drafted completely ignores the most important part of credit: how they were developed. You can be a great grocery shopper, but the food is going to suck if you aren't a good cook. In this analogy, Avila was slow to learn how to cook and had Dave Littlefield as the chef and he was searing with non-stick and being careless with raw meat, but bought some nifty appliances he didn't know how to use at the end. They brought in Harris who knew how to use them and was able to make some banger meals.

  30. You could do the same thing with almost any teams draft picks if you want to make them look bad. As for Greene, I think you are vastly overestimating the value of draft picks. The median value of a 5th pick in the draft is zero career WAR. He is already at 10. Carpenter and Skubal were great picks, no matter how hard you try to rationalize that they weren't. Also, you forgot Dillon Dingler.

  31. I mean, yeah, they are being assholes in general, but that doesn't mean that's the only reason they're doing it. They do have an interest in keeping as many people as possible from seeing what they are doing—witness their blocking of government reports on jobs and inflation—so I think my little hypothesis holds water.

  33. Because the font was changed to help people with accessibility deficits read government documents, my guess is that they are trying to keep as many people from being able to read what it is they are putting out as much as possible.

  39. Big plants with big cooling towers can be a problem in agricultural regions because they concentrate the phosphates, nitrates, etc, that tend to be in water in agricultural areas and then slam them back to the local waste water treatment system (and that's assuming they are in complete control of their toxics). If the community was using recovered water or they discharge into rivers upstream of other communties' intakes, that can put water systems way out of compliance for safe drinking water or even safe irrigation use. They need to forced to put in their own tail water treatment systems and not give them permits to discharge into low capacity rural municipal systems with little or no review/oversight. This is one place where Big Brother is almost never big enough.

  41. I don’t get where this is coming from. We don’t know anything yet. All this speculation about what Harris wants to do, but we really don’t know. We don’t know if they are trying to sign Skubal, plan to, if Skubal is receptive or willing to forego free agency. We don’t know if Ilitch will be cheap this offseason or if it will be Harris’ call not to spend on a big free agent. We don’t know if big free agents will shun us if given the chance. We don’t know if any prospects will get traded or are preventing us from signing or trading for someone. We can’t say “seems” or anything more conclusive. It’s Tuesday of the Winter Meetings. Few players have moved and the offseason has months left. Let’s check back in mid-February. In the meantime, it’s fun to speculate about things that no one, outside of Harris and his Gerk Squad, knows.

  42. Also - I think if Skubal had an inclination to sign a deal in DET at less than the max, he'd have parted company with Boras. He doesn't need Boras or his fee if was interested in staying here and he could probably find agency to do that for less money than he is going to pay Boras.

  43. Like I said, I will be disappointed as a fan knowing the Tigers, in that model, will not be keeping any home grown superstar players long-term. There will never be another Al Kaline, Alan Trammell or Lou Whitaker in that model. And that sucks.

  44. I think it does. The idiots on twitter who listen to too much radio make dismissive comments beyond his performance. “Scotty boy”. “Haircut”. Stuff like that. They thjnk he’s weak and timid. Most of them are overweight pretend jocks who think they are teasing the nerd in high school.

  45. As far as I know, Boras has never extorted an owner into signing a player. They have always done so using their own free will. It is odd that you would see hiring an attorney to negotiate with a billion dollar machine like MLB would be seen as something bad.
