Everyone is of course free to do whatever they want. But I have never cared about or followed players that have left this team ever. I just lose interest and when they leave this team, their exploits are meaningless to me. Even JV. When Skubal leaves this team, I will cease to care about him. I don’t even identify myself as a “baseball fan.“ I’m a Tigers fan. Baseball doesn’t exist for me unless it’s the Tigers. I’m not necessarily proud of this, but it is what it is. I’m glad that other people can find joy in baseball in general or sports in general. I just don’t happen to be one of those persons.5 points

this is the same country that brought you the Salem witch trials, where half was willing to go to war to keep people enslaved, that produced the KKK, interned it's own citizens because of their heritage, produced Joe McCarthy, was fine with bombing the 'gooks' back to the stone age (until they weren't), and never met a social democracy in the third world it wasn't ready to overthrow in the name of corporate profits. This is us baby! Just like we've always been. One half of every American generation has to spend its energy trying to keep the other half from being the terrible people they're always willing to be.5 points

Every time he tries to be humorous, it comes off as immature and shallow and not funny or clever all. He's the middle school bully who says stupid stuff and all his friends have to laugh so they they can be cool even though they know it's stupid.4 points

Winning is one step. The World Series is a much bigger step. If I didn't consider the Tigers a World Series contender with Skubal, I might align with your view. But I like to dream. Removing Skubal from the Tigers roster and adding Skubal to the Yankees, Red Sox, Mariners, Dodgers, Phillies ... makes the postseason path much more difficult. Skubal has pitched at least 6 innings in each of his 6 post season games over the past 2 years and has a 2.04 ERA and 1.91 FIP in the post season. Skubal has pitched 28% of the Tigers postseason innings over the past 2 seasons. No other pitcher on the Tigers staff comes close to those numbers.3 points

If McGonigle is ready, then that changes a lot of things. I am actually pretty optimistic that he'll hit his way on to the team in Spring training. I know that Harris would love for him to be ready on opening day because it could mean another draft pick.2 points

TBF, the year Keith came up he made a bunch of errors early but the error rate in the second half was not an issue and there were things he did well as a 2B - e.g. his DP turn is very fast. In 250 innings at 3b last season his Rrds was zero and -2 OAA on statcast. Not great, but not end of the world either. His throws from 3B peaked at 86mph - again, not great but not terrible and in his favor he is pretty accurate. He's not going to be fielding asset but I don't think his play at 3b is going to be something that hold them back. Honestly I'm more concerned about the OF if Meadows doesn't hit. Greene fell off a cliff defensively last season, Perez makes a nice play now and then but he also makes mistakes. Kerry throws well but catches like a DH. Vierling and Baez could end up our best OF and Hinch won't play them enough because they are RHH.2 points

I picked up a copy of "The Story of Abba" yesterday at the library, thinking it would be a good light read for yet another weekend of colder than average weather. Turns out, it's a comprehensive history not only of Abba but of the music/social scene in Sweden and of Abba's reach throughout the world. Very interesting.1 point

I had stopped the steroid (Dexamethasone) drops in my ear the Wednesday before last when I ran out and saw that improvement on Thursday when I did the hearing test. They gave me another 10-day supply and I re-started Thursday and then last night and this morning I am getting a fair amount of fuzzy hearing in the left ear. So much so it's actually a little distracting while listening to music and I kind of need to plug my ear a bit because I have a show to put together for Sunday evening. This is the most significant hearing I've had since 12/26. Not really functional, but it's there. Going to a chiropractor next week. I have read about dozens of cases where issues like mine were greatly or completely resolved with a few adjustments. Still don't know exactly what caused all this. Some sort of virus is the thoerry - since the steroids seem to be making a difference, unless my healing is just natural and the steroids are doing a placebo thing. Hey, whatever it is - just keep it going. If I make the progress I had in the last week I feel I could be hearing somewhat normally by Mid March. I certainly hope so because the Lemon Twigs are coming to the Blind Pig on April 27th - and I am NOT missing that.1 point

Speaking of Cornyn, looks like there is very good chance Ken Paxton will take him down in the primary. One of the consequences of the disaffection for Trump among independents is that GOP primary electorates are likely to get even more MAGA. That should put general election races in play for the Dems that would not have been.1 point

I’d sit Cariss. But then I’d sit Cariss in the regular season as well. Starters plus Stew, Daniss, Ron, and Javonte. Everyone else is just in case you need them for certain situations. But I’m also playing Ausar 30+ a night and JB won’t because he’s bad at lineups.1 point

The idea that this team would implode without Skubal is ridiculous. He’ll pitch in 20% of our games, if lucky and log 2/3 innings in of each of those. He is amazing, but we have won without him and will again.1 point

Everyone is entitled to their own viewpoint, but for me, as a long time Tiger fan, there are two "things" that would make it difficult to trade Skubal under almost any circumstance. The Tigers are at least in the conversion as a World Series contender. Without Skubal, I think the Tigers are out of the conversation. How many seasons have I endured knowing the Tigers had no chance of making it to the World Series before game 1. I have been spoiled as a fan the last 20 years with JV, Miggy, Scherzer, and now Skubal. Before that, there was a 40 year gap between prime Kaline and JV. It may be another 40 years before the next first ballot HOF caliber talent wears a Tiger uniform. I can't imagine the pain of watching Skubal win his third straight Cy Young in front of Yankee fans and helping the Yankees to the World Series.1 point

I would be willing to trade Skubal for a kings ransom. Unfortunately, that is not an option. Look at the Burnes trade for the Brewers, the best player they got was Joey Ortiz, who was the 45h ranked prospect on fangraphs, and he is projected as a 2 WAR player entering his age 27 season. He's a solid player, but he is not an impact player, and not a player that meaningfully changes the outlook of your franchise over a 3-5 year period. If you have a good scouting and development organization, and don't have an incredibly cheap and deadbeat ownership, you will have no problem consistently acquiring/developing solid 2 WAR guys, missing out on a guy like that will never be what holds your team back. I checked the fangraphs top 20 prospects from 2014-2019. In that period 87 different players appeared on the lists. Of those, only 20 players had 3 or more 3+ WAR seasons during the 6 years of control. So less than 25% of top 20 prospects actually turned into consistent impact players. And the fact is you would be lucky to get a single top 20 prospect for Skubal, in all likelihood the best you'd get is two top 100 prospects, one of them probably around 50th and the second more of a back half guy. And guess what? Both of those guys are unlikely to turn out to be even average big league starters. The reality is that the Tigers would not receive a package for Skubal that will have any meaningful impact on the teams outlook for the next 6 seasons. If the Tigers trade Skubal and get one player who gives them 12 WAR over their 6 years of control, that would be an objectively successful return. Sorry, but that level of player is not hard to come by, and that is not an exciting return. I'd rather give it one more shot with Skubal, the franchises outlook over the next 6 years after this one will not change whether they trade Skubal or not.1 point

Jenkins is not listed on the injury report, so it appears he will play tonight. That will be game #50 for him. They will have until March 1st to convert him into a regular NBA contract so he is eligible for the playoffs. They can convert him to a deal for the remainder of the season without his consent. Anything longer and he has to agree to the contract.1 point
