  3. Found the degenerate bar that opens at 7am for this one. Don’t serve Irish coffee, but that’d have been a bad omen anyway. Bloody Mary is strong. I’m coming to believe a certain kind of character tends to gravitate towards a bar that opens at 7am

  6. The Habs do it very well. First game back, pregame they bring out Quebecois medalists - usually speed skaters and freestyle skiers - for their moment in the sun. Then hockey gold medalists from the teams playing. It is Isles vs Habs this year so would have been Suzuki, Horvat and Schaefer.

  7. 46 years to the day the USA Men's Hockey Team wins the Gold Metal. Congrats to them. The 1980 story has to be one of the best sports stories in history. If you were alive at that time, it was one of those "I remember exactly where I was" kind of things. A truly magical and incredible story. I thought the movie was really good, and there is a Netflix documentary that is excellent as well.

  9. Bringing up politics in a sports thread is....taboo. But my ex works at UM and sees many wealthy Canadians coming here for healthcare, out of pocket. The wait in Canada can be deadly. .

  12. Try hearing aids before cochlear. Cochlear is a physical and permanent change to your inner ear. It’s a controversial issue in deaf culture for sure so I am biased. Obviously I know you will research this because it’s your body so I am saying it for others.

  14. So did Jack Hughes back down the ice. Yes, Makar maybe took an unnecessary risk, but I'm fine with that gamble. If Makar wins the puck or at least gets Hughes' one-hander to bounce off his shinpads, McDavid would be in all open with the gold medal on his stick.

  15. I had to look them up because I have never been there. Those calories are in Canadian so the 91 calories Canadian are only about 85 calories American, right? 😅😅

  18. Well, let’s at least give Canada credit for something. They could probably have the whole Canadian national team euthanized in less time than it took the USA to put them to sudden death in overtime.

  22. In the past 10 days, a) a teenage dude in BC shot up a school killing eight, but police took pains to refer to him as “female” even when it was still an active shooter situation and then again in the press conference the next day; b) a Quebecois won a human rights judgement because the pull-down menu of the online booking system of a hair salon only had male or female as options not non-binary; and c) a local teachers union in suburban Vancouver took an 8-time elected school board trustee to a human rights tribunal for his Facebook posts about gender ideology and after a 9- year process (!) he was fined $750k. You can criticize your insurance provider. In Canada there are many things we can’t criticize our government about.

  26. Miami would be in the playin game in that scenario. Same thing happened last year when Orlando won the division but had the 7th best record in the conference. They played Atlanta in the playin game.

  27. i used to get up at 5 or 6 most weekends to watch United play. back when there were no soccer games on regular tv. trudge over to the bar with a few englishmen. now every game is on tv and its a bunch of milennials and gen z "man city and chelsea fans" there. vibe totally sucks now. i remember being there one morning and there were a ton of people in the backroom all drunk at 8 am. it was six nations pay per view. packed crowd that day for ireland. the big rugby games still get crowds at the bars here if its ireland or england (but especially ireland). being the only francophile there gets lonely. speaking of which, allez les bleus.

  31. Moving is hard, especially after you've been somewhere a while. That's thev downside of our move, with the nicer weather (most of the time) we've found ourselves outdoors a lot in the early evenings. Most of the neighbors in our townhome community seem to have basically built "forts" with big wooden fences around their back yards. Not much socializing. We opted for a steel fence that gives us a view and allows us to enjoy our patio (with a fire stove). Fortunately hanging out at CW has helped with a bit of the need to socialize.

  32. Random randomness… 1 ). Since moving here to Delaware in October, I’ve learned how to play mahjong and canasta, am part of a book club @ my local library, joined a “meet up” group, & enrolled in the continued adult education group @ the University of Delaware (- 3 classes). I have met quite a few people. 2 ) I am missing my friends so much. Having a hard day today. Very hard.

  36. A weekend of Vertigo for me. It sucks so much. Went for one more hearing test Thursday. There was little to no improvement and the ENT said there is nothing more that they can really do I am going to the Ear Institute of Michigan on March 4th to see what could be done. They're going to start recommending hearing aids or cochlear implants. But from what I understand the cochlear implant is like a tiny speaker in your ear and it mushes all the sound together. When you listen with normal hearing your brain can pull out a guitar part or a horn solo or subtle parts of the music and with the implants, they are all compressed into one thing - and trying to listen with one normal ear and one implant ear has got to be horrible. I'd rather just not hear in the one ear. I just want to know what the hell happened. How did i go from a lifetime of GREAT hearing - being able to tell you what specific song is playing in a crowded noisy restaurants satellite feed (when nobody else around me can even hear music at all) - to this. Especially with my job. When I talk on the radio I am wearing headphones and any stereo mix of a song with something unique on the left channel is totally lost now. Now I am hearing tones in my left ear - that sound like test tones. They last for about 5-10 seconds and I think it's just my brain searching for a signal and making sounds up. These things come and go and I get dizzy and that part is getting worse. I fell in downtown Ann Arbor last week. I was walking along side a wall, so I used that to break the fall, but people must have thought I was drunk. That's what it feels like, it feels like being drunk when I am totally sober. I walk around the office with my eyes closed and my hand on the wall. It's like walking on a boat with high waves.
