The ****er is on TV bragging about bombing and taking away their electricity and killing people but tell me again about that being the Christian way. He’s rambling in a way that Biden never did but dumb ass saps eat it up as gospel.4 points

This is way worse than Iraq. The impacts of Iraq were fundamentally local. The impacts here are global. A huge mistake Trump has made (among hundreds) is backing Iran so far into the corner that they have nothing to lose. At this point they are perfectly happy to see the whole Western energy economy in the toilet. What's it to them? Trump isn't offering them any off ramp worth taking. Iran knows all they have to do is hold out somehow for a little while 30 days, 60 at the most, and Trump will have to fold. $150+ $/bbl oil with every country at each other's throat trying to insure their own supply, employment down, inflation up, every multinational will be pouring millions into political efforts to end this. He thought he held all the cards, but he should have read Dune "He who willing and able to destroy a thing is the one who controls it" That's Iran, the Straight of Hormuz and the world's energy economy.3 points

it's a logical fallacy to believe what is wrong or right in the specific must also be wrong or right in the general, or vice versa. That it is a good idea not to go to work on a day you happen to be sick does not mean you should stop going to work period. The fact that apples are good to eat does not mean every apple is edible. Happily, the human brain has the wiring to learn to make such logical distinctions, if the brain in question is willing to make the effort. the corollary is that platitudes are no substitute for judgement.2 points

That was the easy part. Nobody is better than us at killing people and blowing stuff up. Nobody!1 point

To the untrained eye like mine he "looks" like a shortstop and plays very smart. What does that mean ? Not much but he has momentum and I like his chances to hit enough to stick at shortstop with KMac at second and Rainer at third. Because Defense does play. But nobody's asking for my opinion yet there you have it. 🤔1 point

That sound you hear is a TACO. Trump and the US DOD broke a bunch of stuff, killed some folks -- so Trump is getting ready to declare victory and go home. The IRGC will still be in control. Iran will go right back to having oil money to fund their meddling, and the risk to Americans at home and abroad is now elevated to its highest level in a long time.1 point

Why? He did very little here for us. He certainly didn’t perform to the levels expected when he signed here.1 point

Even if it were true, Tater still doesn’t understand the Lions literally cannot afford $47.5 million annual salary. With Hutchinson that would be over $90 million in pass rushers. The bookend pass rushers for the 2015 Broncos were Von Miller, who was still under his rookie contract, and Demarcus Ware who signed for 3 years $30 million. They had 11 and 7.5 sacks, less than Hutchinson and Muhammad. They didn’t spend over 30% of their cap in pass rushers.1 point

Lions have one 9 win season after winning 12 and 15 games and it’s mediocrity in perpetuity. The irony is, elite teams don’t always spend big in free agency.1 point

I just don’t think Holmes is going to spend money this way. I’m not qualified to say if it’s the right or wrong move. I think Holmes prioritizes preserving future assets over increasing current odds. As long at he doesn’t forget how to draft the Lions will likely be average to above average for the long haul, similar to the Steelers. But unless he has another home run draft or two the Lions will be above average at best. That’s certainly better than most of the Lions history. Maybe if we can string together enough average seasons we might luck into a Super Bowl like this years. Either as the Patriots who got a softest schedule and injury luck, or as the Seahawks who faced a team that didn’t belong there.1 point

If the Ravens were fine with that annual amount, but on a two year deal, they should have just franchised him.1 point

Not to mention it helps fuel the fantasy that they too can become rich someday if they just want it badly enough.1 point

FYI: It's strait, not straight. Straight = straight line. Strait = thin body of water (as in larger than a river) between two larger bodies of water. Unless this is just a joke I am missing out on...1 point

If Verlander gets shelled in a bunch of starts at the beginning of the season then sure, but arguably the best pitcher in Tigers history is not going to lose his job right out of the gate to a guy with career 44 innings and a 6.50 ERA.1 point

Every year fans go up and down with ST stats, thinking someone is winning or losing a job, and then the season starts and they forget all about it. Spring training stats don't matter, the samples are too small, the talent too variable and the players are making adjustments and ramping up. Mechanical adjustments that correct weaknesses matter, increased velo and improved pitches matter, health after an injury matters, etc. Stats, they just don't matter. They may or may not reflect an underlying issue, but staff will be well aware of it whether the stats reflect it or not.1 point

So the 2019 pick of Soderblom can be considered a success for a 6th rounder. Played almost 100 games in the NHL for the Wings in parts of three season and then was traded for a 3rd that was a piece in the trade for a top 4 defenseman. Only six other 6th rounders from that draft (and three 5th rounders and eleven 4th rounders) made the NHL at all, only one of whom has played more NHL games than Elmer.1 point

This gave me the idea to ask Claude what the opening day roster should be, based on ZIPS projection for 2026, and this is what it came up with: Remember that ZIPS is kind of a blunt instrument and doesn't take spring training into consideration, but this ain't a half-bad-looking roster. Verlander isn't on it because Claude sees him as a starter only, and he is the seventh-best starter according to ZIPS. Interestingly, Reese Olson projected as the #6 starter, behind Drew Anderson from Korea. ZIPS thinks this would be close to a 100-win team even without a projected superstar.1 point
