  1. I don't know if anybody who can't spot the difference between Cale Iorg and Kevin McGonigle is worth even acknowledging.

  2. Tyler Collins and Cale Iorg are you comps for McGonigle? You're just messing with us now.

  4. Last game at Tiger Stadium. They were the two that brought the lineup cards to that game.

  6. Trout hit two home runs tonight. His wRC+ is up to 156. For what it's worth, he also leads the Majors in runs scored.

  7. not sure if 2022 was talking about McG or Rainer but either way I agree I never remember Collins being treated as that much of a deal. IIRC Iorg did get a fair amount of early hype but it was pretty short lived because he never lived up to any of it. they kept pushing him up the system but he never really had a year that merited a promotion anywhere. Rainer already has a better year last year than Iorg ever had.

  8. 😂🤣😂I don’t ever remember Tyler Collin’s even being a top prospect. Nor do I ever remember Iorg being can’t miss as I don’t think he was ever a top 100 prospect (although he was higher rated than Collin’s. just looked it up, Collin’s never had an OPS higher than .800 (in A ball) in the minors until .820 when he was sent down to Toledo in 2018. And he was a 6th round pick. Never can’t miss or a top prospect. Iorg was also a 6th round pick and never cracked a .740 OPS.

  9. This one. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/DET/DET198404210.shtml I had just turned 11 and my brother just turned 10. Mom and Dad splurged on us big time and got birthday seats for the boys, 2nd row behind the plate. It was only the 2nd time there for me and my brother. The previous year we were 2nd deck along the RF line. But seats behind the plate? 2nd row? Wowza. Sweet Lou led off the bottom of the first with a home run. A few drunks behind us yelled “Oh no, it’s Ho Jo!” every time Howard Johnson came to the plate. It was funny until they knocked a beer over on my brother’s Tiger yearbook that was under his seat. It was a cool day. The snap of the catcher’s mitt was fun. While the premise of sitting that close seems awesome, especially to a kid, I think that’s when I first realized that sitting up front like that takes away from some of the other vantages that just aren’t there. But, whatever, it was a great time.

  12. I want Stevie to quit signing mediocre veterans and to instead throw all of our GR prospects into the fire. There's a new wave of kids just now getting to GR... THEY can get some AHL experience. I DO want Stevie to go out and sign one free agent, but just one: Whichever biggest, baddest, fastest top line scoring power forward he can find. And the dude may not hit on all those cylinders. In my mind, that's Alex Tuch. Are there any alternative/ better ideas? That creates a top line of Raymond-Larkin-Tuch. Yeah, I'm good with that. Signing Tuch may cost us signing back Kane... I'm OK with that, Cat-Copp & either Finnie or Mazur works for me. The 3rd line I want Kasper-Danielson-MBN. For the entire year. let them grow together. make mistakes... etc. Just a WAG, they'll be significantly better the second half of the season than the first half. Also, they can start in the defensive zone but still push for offense... whereas I want our 2nd line of Cat-Copp-Mazur/Finnie to mostly be starting in the offensive zone. Maybe this 3rd line even pushes past Cat-Copp-Mazur to become the 2nd line? I'm not making any predictions... It's time to move on from JVR, Perron, Talbot, Compher (dump him to a center-needy team and MAYBE he won't cost us a draft pick to trade him...). If Compher does cost a pick to trade, then just dump his contract and stretch him out. The Wings will just have to learn to play without him on their roster... IMO. But I think the team should ALSO move on from: Rasmussen. Unless they can get him to start hitting again (he hasn't been the same since getting back from injury last year...). But if they don't believe he will get back to what they need, move him. Also: Albert Johansson. Decent defenseman, modicum of talent... But I'm going cheap and trading AlJo. I am also bringing up both Wallinder and Buium. Wallinder may be nothing more than a 7th D'man. Fine. He's still cheap as a 7th D. And on back-to-backs the team can sit Chiarot so he has legs by the end of the season. 2nd pair is Buium-Faulk. I mean, he has to earn it... but I'm putting it on his shoulders to do so. What better way to break in a fast mobile defenseman than pairing him with Justin Faulk? And Chiarot can go where he belongs... to 3rd pair. Matched up with ASP (for offense) or JBD (for defensive purposes). Whoever is on the bench, Wallinder and JBD...? I am perfectly fine with having them come into games to cover an injury or a back-to-back day off (I think both Chiarot and Faulk should get several games off during the season to save their legs... IMO). Cossa is up the entire year as Goalie 1A to Gibson. Maybe he shows only as a weak #2... ok, whatever. It was ridiculous burning Gibson out in March having Talbot starting ONE ****ING GAME the ENTIRE ****ING MONTH (sorry, sorry, excuse the language... but man am I F'ing PISSED at that kind of bull****...! That STEVE Y PUT this team into that situation by riding a SPENT Talbot and REFUSING to bring up Cossa... I am ****ING BURNT over that...!) If Cossa is so damn good he takes over 1A... awesome. If he's only a 1B in 2026-27... fine. Nothing but a #2, I'll take it. But riding a mediocre aged-out #2 goalie and BURNING OUT Gibson...? If he tries that again in 2026-27 I will just ****ing explode. Lastly... I want to find 3 players for the 4th line who are BANGERS, BEARS to play against. Maybe they have some offensive talent, that's lees important to me than being tough-to-play-against even against other teams' 1st lines. Is Appleton a part of that? Maybe. Is Rasmussen, maybe, maybe not... and probably much more like: near-zero chance. I think we can find inexpensive players who are flawed maybe (offensively) but are tough as nails to play against in our defensive zone. I don't have the answers for this. I don't have names... And obviously: it's better if this line can convert heavy defensive pressure into SOME kind of offense... and play outstanding PK... But I don't yet have the recipe for this line. Just my 2 cents.

  17. No, I wouldn't trade Rasmussen. He has good size, and was injured all year. I would use every pick possible to get better.

  22. Whitmer won Michigan with a decrease in Dearborn voters. They turned against Whitmer due to homophobia. Even without Wayne County, she would have won. I don't think El-Sayed can win without Dearborn. It's also going to be hard to convince voters in the middle to vote for the defund the police guy.

  24. Or they had extra bonus money to offer him, just from having the high bonus pool and extra 5% overage, that they were able to give him another that teams at the some teams at the back end of the first round weren't able to match without blowing up picks later on.

  26. A few months ago I did my column I write about ticket stubs. I just brought a bunch of ticket stubs I had, picked up random ones (from all the Detroit teams to some Toledo MudHen games), checked the results and seeing the box score sparked my memory of the game. One of them was a ninth-inning home run by Lou Whitaker for the win. I still don't remember going to this game. I don't drink so I have no excuse not to remember it. But, it was pretty cool to do that column and see some of the game I completely forgot about.

  28. A few games I'll always remember (that aren't the complete obvious games, well maybe some are) were these: Milt Wilcox near perfect game. I hated Jerry Hairston's kid because of his dad's single with two out in the ninth. When Pat Underwood made his Tigers' debut by pitching against his brother Tom. It ended up being a 1-0 pitchers' duel won by Pat. Being at the 1986 home opener and seeing the stadium go from the ultimate high of the first pitch, only to see Dwight Evans hit the first pitch by Jack Morris go over the fence (we were behind home plate) and quiet us down quickly. But I think the Tigers won that game. Dave Bergman's two home run games against the Blue Jays in 1984 with the Roy Lee Jackson game being the big one. Watching Disco Demolition at Comiskey Park during a DH with the Tigers. It was supposed to be a single game but became a DH and local TV broadcast the twinbill because they initially were planning on covering the only game on that date. Good thing they did because watching what happened on the field was pretty entertaining. Attending the last game at Tiger Stadium will always be my favorite Detroit sports history memory, even if the Lions win a Super Bowl. The last game of the 1987 regular season. There are others but I'm on deadline and probably should be doing my job. 🙂

  32. No comment on McMorrow in partcular, but I can't hold a Dem's position on Biden's run against them - I think Dems of good conscience were in a serious quandry about it. It was completely reasonable to believe if Biden had tried to keep campaigning there would soon have been more video flying around of more episodes that looked like the debate. There was no clear right answer there. I was ambivalent myself, and I think it still would have been the right decision if Harris had been able to connect to people better. To me she had this weakness that when you heard her speaking on video, it was always like she was talking to someone else, not to 'you'. Somehow she didn't connect through the camera like Obama or Trump can. Video 'Charisma' is a weird thing, but it's indispensable.

The base case for incumbent parties in our ****ed up system of government is to eat it during the Midterms. Just holding the Senate alone under those circumstances made it a win IMO
