  1. In between this, the bear, and whale carcass, it sounds like things a serial killer would do.

  2. I can respect that kind of thinking, although I don't think it can work in highly populated areas. What I can't respect is the support for fascism and theocracy that I am seeing all over the place.

  3. i like the play in round. i hate the nba playoff schedule tjat refuses to show more than one gane at a time and results in 3 or 4 days between games. they should be playing roughly every other day.

  4. Such a dumb, shortsighted move by an organization that doesn’t get it. Everyone knows it takes a GM at least 10 years to build something.

  6. AJD Melting Pot. really good substack from one of the mgoblog boys. i think the wings' problem is not yzerman per se, but that yzerman has allowed the wings' front office to become the wings' retirement home. yzerman led a really good front office in tampa bay, one that has continued to be good after he left. here, he has draper and horcoff. guys who have been here for a decade. a decade of losing and tiny improvements on the ice and - outside of three top 6 picks - has failed in the draft. why are they still here? why are the only additions to the staff nick kronwall and lidstrom? julein brisebois never played an nhl game in his life and now he's the best gm in hockey after being there with yzerman. it takes talent to find that guy. it takes no talent to find kronwall or lidstrom, theyre literally contacts in his phone. time to overhaul this mess. go get the next julien brisebois, and if yzerman isnt ruthless enough to fire his underperforming ex-teammates, then go find someone who will.

  7. Seems like it was only about 6 months ago that stuff like this would have resulted in my immediate, violent death. Nowadays she's still fairly particular about belly attention, but she asks for it most days and can get pretty insistent. Being able to give belly rubs is pretty much the best thing about having a cat as far as I'm concerned.

  9. This. The play-in has been amazing. Some of the best games I've watched all season. My issue will be when we play Sunday and then not again until Wednesday.

  10. The problem with Indy getting a team is that the White Sox, Reds and Cardinals would freak out about it. The Cubs would quiety pout too. But, a relocation is another story. I think the Rays are staying in FLA, but could move to Orlando and possibly Charlotte NC, but I am pretty sure MLB wants their footprint to remain in the SE. But the Brewers and White Sox have been fussing about a relocation - and while I feel like the Brewers are mostly bluffing, I could see the White Sox moving - based on Chicago letting the Bears get away. A move to Indy would not be too crazy. There are a fair amount of White Sox fans already in the state and the diehards in Chicago could possibly make that trip to see them in Indy. The Indianapolis White Sox sounds horrible and yes, my fictional Indianapolis Ignition isn't great either, it does have a ring to it. I think the other place that should be, but will NEVER be considred for an expansion team is Northern New Jersey. Plenty of money, population and political corruption to make it happen, but the blue bloods in NY, Philly and even Boston would lose their f'ing minds To me the best relocation places are.. 1. Nashville - Shoo-in for a team by 2032. There is a bit of a regional hole too. They're already selling merch ! 2. Northern New Jersey - Checks every box, but it'd be blocked 3. Indianapolis - I think it's a great spot, despite the whining from the Reds and Cardinals 4. Charlotte (or Raleigh/Durahm) - Plenty of money and population in Carolina, but are they into baseball? 5. Portland Regionally it makes sense. A lot of the type of people that would like baseball, but a political nightmare 6. San Jose - Stat nerds unite. Not every baseball fan in the region is a Giants fan and the A's would have been much better off in SJ than in Vegas. That's going to be a flop within 5 years. 7. Vancouver - I think it's a better case than MTL. 8. Montreal - I do think romantically about the innocent days of Jarry Park and the logo that I thought was an "elb" and not an "M", unless it's both. The confusing logo and the weird stadiums were part of the charm, but MTL is the Portland of Canada - a political nigthmare 9. Salt Lake City - I am with you Idaho Bert. I don't get it. But there's a lot of money there, or so I'm told. But the elevation is an issue, and isn't the air even drier than Denver? And the Metro population is only slightly bigger than Grand Rapids. Would you even consider MLB in Grand Rapids? No.

  11. I would personally be underwhelmed, but not upset, if they picked a safety in the first round. I think safety is a very real option for them. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they had any or all of Caleb Downs, Dillon Thieneman, and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren rated high on their draft boards. Drafting a safety would allow them to play a lot of 5-6 defensive back sets and put more guys in the box. They would utilize a safety as opposed to putting a third linebacker on the field. So essentially, the safety they could draft would be Anzalone's replacement. They could also moonlight their safety as a slot corner, depending on who they pick as well. Thieneman specifically played the box safety role at Oregon and played as a lot corner at time. He's got the speed and athleticism they like. He also offers good range in coverage across the middle of the field and can step down low more often to play against the run. We know the Lions love guys against the run. With the injury uncertainties they have and letting Anzalone go, safety could be a real option for them at #17.

  14. I've been a runner in the Boston area for 50 years and even I haven't run the Boston Marathon. The logistics of getting there and getting out does not sound fun. Most people I know have run it which makes it seem like not a big deal to me. I prefer the low key races.

  16. From the female perspective: a lot of women are seeing religion used as a tool to reduce their rights in multiple ways, and to trap them into dependence on men. Most of us do not want to go back to the days of being property.

  18. The easy answer that doesn't really answer the question - just move it up a level on the 'meta'-scale, is that this group hasn't found meaning, or maybe is more focused on finding meaning, than the generation of young men that went before them. To me a number like that is a double-edged sword. I think in general it's great if any group of people are approaching life a little more seriously. OTOH, young men searching for meaning are usually the willing clay for all kinds of radical movements and irrational/disastrous results. Or it could be as simple as that they are unable to find fulfilling relationships with the opposite sex because relationship culture for the young in the US is really screwed up today.

  19. there are some places where I would agree it's better not to get tied up with the gov in the first place. For instance I think NPR is better off being fully independent. Turns out the public is willing to support them. Now they can stop looking over their shoulder all the time and do their thing. But I think when it comes to services for the indigent, public/private is often a good mix. The private charity is usually is a lot more disciplined with money than a purely public one would be, the labor force is generally available at much lower costs (no-one volunteers to work for government agencies for free!), and services for the poor don't have appeal to middle/upper class donors that something like NPR (where they get a lot of the direct benefit) does.

  20. The people I grew up with in NH were mostly traditional conservatives. When they said they wanted government out, they meant it-and would take it upon themselves to make sure those who needed help got it from other community members. And religion was a private, personal subject that you only discussed in church. So we didn't agree on how to accomplish some things, but we often wanted the same things.

  21. Finish watching Saul then. That’s all I will say. I liked BCS better and when I put on the AMC stories channel on Amazon prime I watch that. If it’s breaking bad I don’t tune in unless it’s an early episode.

  23. I’m not sure either Riley or Tork get traded as long as there is not a better alternative in the wings to replace them. Even so, I would assume the return for each will disappoint.

  26. My father is catholic. He also is in an advanced state of dementia. At the nursing home, they ask him cognitive questions. He couldn’t answer what year it is, what month it is, what city he lives in, but when they asked who the president is, he answered without hesitation Trump and followed it with he’s ruining this country, I hate that guy.
