  1. Cade drives, attracts a crowd and hits a wide open Beef Stew for a clutch corner 3 to put the Pistons up 4 with like 10 seconds left!
  2. Also when Sheila took over we were in the middle of the pandemic and weren't even quite sure if or what the season was going to look like so it wasn't an ideal time to clean house and start fresh.
  3. Sounds like a Tigers move, levi's been dealing with this back injury for awhile and instead of trying to nip it in the bud right away they waste months resting and rehabbing only to eventually get surgery anyway.
  4. The Braves also have blue chipper Vaughn Grissom that can slide into short so they may feel it would be better to allot the money that would otherwise be used on Swanson to another position.
  5. The Levi pick is definitely the one pick that Holmes deserves some criticism for, there were quite a few players that were consensusly viewed as better players that also filled a need but he still went with Levi who wasnt viewed as highly and had more question marks. That's not to say that he isn't going to work out though considering the back injury it seems more and more likely but as of now it seems Holmes over thought the pick or maybe he fell in love with the person which blinded him to see things in film that really weren't there.
  6. The Giants particularly their offense is heavily dependent on Saquon Barkley who was injured and/or ineffective the previous 2 seasons where as this year he is healthy and playing great. So any improvement they've made over the past 2 seasons needs to factor that in.
  7. Looked like JJ either tripped over his own feet or the center's and that little misstep blew up the whole timing of the play. Still bad luck for the ball to bounce off one player's hand, then another's helmet and land in yet another's hands with a clear path to the end zone.
  8. unbelievable! Somehow Penn State is now up 14-13.
  9. I gotta admit that was one helluva a play fake but seriously how is Clifford still eligible? I swear he's been playing since the Obama administration.
  10. I completely forgot about Ronny Rodriguez, I definitely didn't realize how much play he got until checking out his stats. I must've completely blocked most of those from my memory cause I just have the recollection of him only playing sparingly for a season not 140 games and 500 at bats over 2 seasons like he did.
  11. It's depressing to say cause we already been through such a long rebuild but if I were him I would basically just chalk up 2023 as a lost season and don't even plan on competing. That's not to say that I would be opposed to signing a relatively young FA or completely splurging on high end guys but I don't want to sign some average stop gap guys to multi year deals that will only add marginal improvement at best. I would be more focused on making sure the right people are in place from a player development standpoint. If we get that right maybe we can coach up some of these guys from the last couple drafts.
  12. Yeah it would be unfair to be critical of the Mize and Torks pick if they don't pan out cause they were obvious choices that any GM would've made but I think all the other picks are fair game to be critical of if they don't pan out.
  13. As bad as his trades and signings were I think the biggest failure is/was the player development and/or drafting. I say and/or cause not sure if he simply just drafted players that were destined to fail regardless or they didn't just properly develop them but if that wasn't such a train wreck we wouldn't be where we're at now regardless of the return on trades. It's too early to count 2020-22 drafts but from 2015-19 we've gotten virtually no significant contribution from any players we drafted or signed internationally. Unless you hit on trades like DD did or sign FA's that make an impact you're going to have a hard time overcoming futility like that.
  14. As far as Tigers players that define the Avila era I can think of a couple and that's Candelario and Willi. Both seem like they've been here forever, both were acquired in rare trades that Al may have "won", both showed at times glimmer of hope but ultimately just like Al's tenure that fleeting glimmer of hope you may have had was ultimately fool's gold.
  15. Thanks for doing the leg work, appreciate it. Not surprising given their reputation but crazy how much more people the Rays have than others, also surprised to see the Braves with only 20, I thought they were another team that were heavily analytic.
  16. Do you know who some of the other top teams are aside from Rays and Dodgers? Just curious to see how well having big/strong analytics departments correlate to winning on the field. I imagine it correlates well but just wanting to confirm it. From a layman on the subject it seems like the Guardians might be one of those teams based off of their moves and how they seem to reload despite losing star players and not spending a ton of money.
  17. Another good Penn State memory was beating them in 2006 to remain undefeated. The game started like right after the Magglio HR to send the Tigers to the World Series so it was an awesome day to be a Michigan sports fan.
  18. Remember that like it was yesterday. My HS team got trucked like 34-0 the night before to miss out on playing in the Silverdome so I was all bummed and didn't even want to watch football but I decided to turn it on and seeing them destroy Penn State helped soften some of the pain of losing the night before.
  19. So these are new positions in the org? Any idea where we'll be at compared to the rest of the league in regards to the analytics department? Last I heard a couple years ago we were in the bottom 3rd but it seems we have beefed it up since then, of course other teams probably have as well so perhaps we're really not gaining any ground on anybody.
  20. Great post but just a small correction and that's Stewart was drafted under DD's watch, that's not to say Al wasn't the one pushing for him but ultimately DD made the final call.
  21. Saw a stat earlier that said Judge and Schwarber the two League HR winners are a combined 0-25 with 16ks thus far. Makes you wonder if Coolbaugh offered them some freelance advice after being canned and just from even speaking to him they turned into pumpkins.
  22. That latest Heisman House commercial with Tebow and Young really puts into perspective how slight of frame Young is. Tebow dwarfed him and made him look like a small child. Yeah Tebow is a buff dude but he looked like an old school Middle linebacker next to Young.
  23. From scouts and football people I follow on Twitter according to many of their remarks the biggest hinderance for shorter qbs is not necessarily the batted balls even though that doesnt help either but just their overall vision on the field and how much more apt they are to miss a wide open receiver and/or a defender "laying in the weeds" baiting the throw.
  24. I hate to be a Debbie Downer but with the pieces currently in the system its hard to envision us being a contender anytime soon unless we aquire a bit of talent from outside the system whether it be shrewd trades or signings there just aren't enough guys in the minors that you can realistically peg or hope to be solid players anytime in the near future. It would take a major stroke of good fortune where most or all of your lottery ticket players hit to be contenders with the current crop of players we have throughout the system.
