If they kicked the FG they would have given Mahomes 50 seconds left in a game where they hadn't been able to stop him. By going for it worst case scenario is that you go to OT cause no way KC would have tried anything getting the ball at the 1 with no TOs. They would've just settled for OT. Already without Godwin, they're going to be relying past Evans on a lot of receivers who seem more appropriate on the Lions than the defending Super Bowl champs.
