  1. Past hour
  2. I read a piece recently that argues that one of the Dem's problems is that in recent years they have tried to build party from policy, instead of building party with a general governing philosophy and letting specific policy flow as a more secondary set of concerns rising from from a wider general constituency. While that is a bit of an idealization there is a core of truth in it. At one time you were Democrat because of who you were, a member of a labor union, or a teacher, or an urban minority. At that time Democratic policy grew up out of the concerns of people who already shared a polity. Today they are trying to stitch together constituencies by adopting interest group program objectives, but the problem with being program first is that program is always a double edged sword, even in your own party there are going to be a lot people that don't like the program pushed by this or that sub-sect. I don't know how to put that more communitarian kind of social structure back together on the left - but it is what the right does have around cultural issues that is part of its recent success Trumpers share a cultural ID that makes Trumps policy faux pas less damaging to him than the internal arguments over policy on the left seem to be.
  3. Did he work at the Red Cross the same week he worked at McDonald's and waste management?
  4. He’s a blasphemous , stupid , ignorant mother-F’er. Plain and simple. I hate his guts.
  5. I’m not a poker player but Trump is playing on full tilt.
  6. Jalen Carter was street racing drunk drivers at over 100mph, then declined to render aid, and was arrested. In addition to the work ethic and locker room concerns (that have proven true). Bain effectively rear ended someone on a freeway, causing their death, and was cited. These are not in the same ballpark of facts.
  7. Waiting until after the last home game to announce the end. Fitting end for a guy that never wanted any part of the spotlight.
  8. 8 years isn’t 10. They’ve done a much better job of acquiring future draft assets during their stretch of ****itude than the Wings. 8 first rounders the last 3 years and they have 4 more coming in the next 2 years. They also have 5 second rounders too. Even a blind squirrel has to hit on a few of these.
  9. Doctor?? 😂
  10. Too young to remember 1968 The 1987 final two weekends. Four in Toronto and then 3 in Detroit. All 7 games were 1-run games. Tigers lost the first 3 in TO. Bill Madlock got death threats for his slide that broke Tony Fernandez' arm. Going into that week against the Orioles it was over. We were asking the O's right fielder for the Blue Jays v. Brewers score because we could not see the big scoreboard. I went to all 3 games that last weekend. They were all one-run games. Friday night Scott Lusader made a game-saving diving catch. Jim Walewander scored from second in the 12th inning to win the seond game. Waited in line all night outside the stadium for tickets to Sunday's game. And you know how that one went. Man, you talk about tense. My heart couldn't take that now. They were spent for the Minnesota series. The last hurrah for that amazing 80's group. It was wonderful. I am not, nor have I ever been a religious person. Tiger Stadium was the closest thing to a Cathedral for me.
  11. I don't trust the American public all that much either. But that doesn't mean they aren't pissed at the administration right now and that there aren't any options for Dem candidates to persuade some of them to vote for a Dem candidate, or to show up and vote at all. Or even simply to drive wedges into the GOP coalition such that it depresses their own turnout (which is a real risk for Trump right now, especially given how their turnout sucks when he's not actually on the ballot). But what happened in Hungary should give some hope and perhaps a roadmap for pushing back on these guys.
  12. No, his weight fluctuated during Stranger Things. I think he gained for the show, but there may have been some digital manipulation too.
  13. God internet Wings fans would lose their minds if they were on the Blackhawks trajectory, I can't even imagine
  14. I actually watched something on this last night. They had interviews from Joyce, Galarraga, Donald, Leyland, Inge, Avila Alomar, Jr (first base coach). Donald said he felt bad about it and you could see from his reaction after the call was made. It was also huge for Avila. To catch a perfect game is pretty special too.
  15. Today
  16. Judging by the deadline prices this last season I would imagine they could get a better package than Kadri brought back easily.
  17. Nicolas Batum took 238 shots this season. 228 of them were 3 point attempts.
  18. I'm sure the league would love to see the Bulls and Knicks in more competent hands.
  19. I understand that sliver of voters but if they fell for his schtick in '24 then that tells me they are stupid and will fall for anything and can't be counted on.
  20. Really, the two groups that have split with him the most (at least in polling, caveats apply) are Hispanics and Younger voters, both of whom are the most likely groups to make up the universe of "first time Trump voters" in 2024. This is why I tend to push back pretty hard when people just write off all Trump voters as all being the same.... whether one agrees with their reasons or their logic for landing at the position they did, these particular groups didn't swing his way because they love his schtick or are balls-deep into the cult of Trump, these groups who swung his direction did so in a much more transactional way centering around delivering results on issues related to the economy and cost of living. And he's not doing that in so many different ways right now. I get why people are gun shy about him and what he can do, but the tendency to build him up as this force of nature that cannot be stopped belies how damaged his standing is right now with the broader public.
  21. The part they never heard because Trump's dark money flooded all their information inputs with nonsense.
  22. We lost-in-the-center nevertrumps try to help by not helping too much.
  23. I'm not sure what part of mass deportation they didn't understand.
  24. Can you imagine how the last year has educated them with experience.
