  1. We handed over 35 starts to hot garbage like Urena, Peralta, and another 30+ starts to guys who won't likely be around or in the rotation in 2022, including Boyd, Turnbull and Fulmer. That's nearly 1/2 of our starts to guys who cannot possibly be counted on for quality starting pitching in 2022....and that's not even talking about the 30+ starts we gave to Manning and Alexander who we hope/expect to be decent or better in 2022. .....and Henning thinks we have a SURPLUS of starting pitching to trade from? We need some upwards development in Manning, Mize, and Alexander, some health luck, and at least TWO new quality starting pitchers to feel confident about contending in 2022. Look, I get that Mize is a RHP who has not yet demonstrated the consistent ability to strike guys out enough to be an above-average pitcher....he needs to get his K's up to the 9/9 ratio or better to be worthy of a top 5 1st rounder. However, at this point, his trade value would seem to be far below his potential value to the team. Unless they are giving up on him, I say keep him and work on getting his FB into reliable plus territory. The off-speed pitches (slider, splitter) seem to be there already.

  2. Yes, I realize it's all about money. As someone who enjoys the regular season more than the playoffs, I don't like it. I think it cheapens both the regular season and the playoffs.

  4. Maybe they are waiting for someone and, while listening to the radio, don't want to have to hit the accessory button every two minutes when it automatically shuts off. Maybe they have allergies and don't want too much exposure to the elements. I'd wager they probably have a pet peeve of people who can't mind their own freaking business.

  5. Yes, Miggy's 3000th against the White Sox, the same game they plunk Abreu twice would be perfect.

  7. Legit point. My fear is destroying the filibuster will look like an overreach, especially if the dems start passing laws that aren't wildly popular. These infrastructure bills would be fine, folks want them, it's what after that which could be an issue. History already says the house and likely senate will be controlled in 2 years by the GOP. Overreach (and no Trump) is about the only thing I could see giving the GOP a shot at POTUS. Based on how Trump is destroying the GOP, that puts a bunch more MTG types running the show in the house, McCarthy more than happy to go along as he's in power, McConnell who cares about wins more than the country, and in my scenario DeSantis who you could argue is worse than Trump, because he knows better and goes along anyway. I'd argue it was this way as recent as 2015. Like you say, vast differences in how to get to the same place, but overall goals were close. I think individually that is still the case, but it's clearly easier than we probably all thought it could be in getting swept up. Right now you have only one party that even has goals. The other party just wants to 'own' the other side, there is no policy, no goal, no substance.

  8. I remember the thrill of the pennant race more than the pain of the playoffs. There won't ever be another pennant race like that again.

  9. ‘87 brings back painful memories. I still have my satin Tigers warm-up jacket that I bought that year. But even though I’ve never washed it it’s somehow shrunk and very tight fitting now. Very poor construction.

  10. Yes. I have been saying this since mid year. But not Mize. Perhaps San Diego will want more so offer Alexander and ask for Kim. We get two quality middle infielders and San Diego gets two young pitchers and some salary relief that they need. I would even sweeten it with one of Reyes, Castro, Cameron or Cisnero. Solving shortstop long term without spending huge dollars would be significant to our off season and future.

  13. Actually, funny you'd say that, I do have anecdotal experience. A coworker shared a story of a friend of his who tried to euthanize his dog by leaving it in a running car located in a closed garage. The car didn't produce enough carbon monoxide and he went out later and found the dog sitting there wagging his tail. The cheap SOB had to spend the money at the vet after all.

  14. Not even ready until 2025? I think you might be underestimating Abrams a bit. He was above league average at the plate (105 OPS+) despite being young (-4.0 years) in AA before an on field collision ended his season.

  16. it not yet established Hill can hit enough to stay on an MLB roster - or even ever stay healthy long enough hold his spot. I could see Greene being held back long enough for them to decide which of Reyes and Hill gets the 4th OF spot - or just carrying 5 OF early in the season when they might not need the extra pitcher. And of course also will no doubt depend some on what the three of them do in ST.

  17. San Diego. Manning for Abrams.

  18. Agreed. In spite of his hot streak, he still has a below average season with traditional stats. And the BABIP and K:BB suggest he’s not found something, he’s just lucky. It’s nice see him have this success, it’s nice to see Peralta’s season, it’s nice to see Schoop’s ridiculous month. But these are outliers, not things to build on. The Schoop extension makes sense for who he is as a player and the potential roster situation out of camp. Reyes can be in camp since he’s on the books and cheap. Peralta can shop his season on the market and try for a multi year deal or maybe a sizable one year deal.

  19. I think we need to pump the brakes on Victor Reyes as a breakout candidate. Sure, he's hit .325/.348/.516 since the break, but he's the beneficiary of a .398 BABIP since then. Normalize his stats to the league average BABIP of .292, and his line drops to .246/.273/.405. And that's before we normalize for his 14.8% HR/FB rate, which is double the MLB average. Feels unsustainable. And he'll be 27 next year, not exactly prospect age. I mean, sure, let's see him in spring training, but unless he found God over the winter, I'm penciling him in for fourth outfielder. Because if he's the same guy next year with the meh glove and the 7:1 K/BB ratio, and he still ends up as a starter, that would mean we have a playoff-sized hole out there.

  20. I started watching Superstore again and I have to say this is an underrated show. It's like a working class version of The Office.

  21. its amazing how good he looks away from a terrible organization. of course, most lions fans could tell you that he's looked almost this good in the past too, but nobody noticed because he was busy losing in detroit.
