  1. MotownSports.com seems to be DEAD. I sold the site back in June of 2020 and it appears that the new owners have killed it off by forwarding the domain to a gambling website. The recent issues with the forums not working for nearly a month may have been the final blow. That said, I started these forums at the beginning of the year to support my other websites (i.e. MotownTigers.com, MotownLions.com, etc.) so the crew from MTS have started using them as their new forums. Feel free to do the same and please let anyone you know from the old site that this place is here.

  3. I wonder if there can be such a thing. The team with the best record went out in the 1st round.

  4. I found it amusing that there was a discussion during the Braves-Dodgers TBS broadcast about the diminished utility of the starting pitcher.... Like, the ALCS game that preceded that is a textbook example of how useful a good starting pitching performance still can be, particularly given how slammed the Astros pen was after those three games. And now you look at that series, setting aside the advantage the Astros have with the lead in the series, it's now the Red Sox who are in a hole because of how they have had to leverage their pitching. That was unthinkable when people were writing the Astros off after Game 3.

  11. That's a good system that doesn't work so well if you bring your own bags from home, which we do. So all the cashier has to do is ring up the sale and push it on down, and I bag it, because my arms aren't broken.

  16. I'm not a fan of the notion that he's not a Democrat. I feel like the issue here isn't that WV needs someone more liberal, it's that Wisconsin needs someone more liberal than Ron Johnson. Democrats need to be able to have moderates.

  19. I don't think this year's improvement is as anomalous as people are saying. They finished 77-85. It is not uncommon for previously poor teams to make that kind of jump especially with an infusion of young players. What I do I like is the apparent new direction of the franchise in terms of management, coaching and analytics.

  20. This is a justifiable take on things. The upswing this year was anomalous in comparison to our expectations. Perhaps our expectations were unrealistically low and the club merely could not continue to trip over its own feet ad infinitum. I remember how the additions of Gary Sheffield or Prince Fielder were supposed to change the curvature of space-time itself if everything else remained the same which, of course, it did not. No doubt other teams too will improve, they will not remain the same, and regardless of all the deserved optimism about how this team performed this season, they were incapable of competing within the Central Division itself. Finally figuring out — and perhaps only temporarily — how to defeat the Seattle Mariners the Astros or teams in the AL East pales in comparison to the monotony of constantly losing to the Royals the Twins the Guardians and the White Sox. It might be a longer time before the dawn than we suspect.

  21. My rule on lines is to do a female check. They take longer. Going into a sporting events.. even the lines that say "no bags".... they dont listen. They've always got bags and blankets and purses... we're going to a baseball game, not camping. Going into the office they'd take up 3 times the elevator space. They'd have their laptop on wheels, a giant purse, a lunch bag, and a cup of Starbucks.. swinging around, getting in the way. one time I came across a situation that I really didn't know what to do. walking in after a dentist appointment, meaning it wasn't a peak arrival time, there was a lady in front of me in the parking lot going towards the building. She had a rolling briefcase/bag and the handle got caught on her skirt and she didn't notice. A whole ass cheek was hanging out as she's walking in. Dark colored panties. It was no worse than what I'd see if she was at the beach. Probably 20 yards in front of me. I was contemplating if I would say anything and what that would be.... luckily it resolved itself, I don't know if she noticed and fixed it or it just fell down naturally. She got into the elevator before I was able to get to the entry door so there was no "pretend you didn't see what you saw" action. I still to this day am not sure the best way to handle that if I needed to tell her.

  23. Whether this is another wasted losing season in 2022 is largely management's decision. Management cannot necessarily "make" this a playoff team, but they can and should try. If we as fans cannot believe that they will at least try to make the playoffs in 2022, I don't see any point of even caring about the team as a whole in 2022. Beyond 2022, predicting a failure to compete is simply saying that management/ownership lacks and will continue to lack the will and/or ability to win. That is certainly possible. As a simple matter of practicality, "this" team (from 2021) largely won't even exist in 2023, as most of the players in 2021 will be gone by then. Only a handful from 2021 are likely to still be around in 2024. Yes, they will likely have added a productive Tork and Greene by 2024, but it will take a lot of management decisions and luck, that we cannot yet even predict, to build a winning team in 2024, regardless of how the team turns out in 2022. At this point, team outcomes, within a 5 or 10 game luck/injury window, are overwhelmingly a reflection on management intention, actions, and ability.

  24. TLDR: Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere. But does anyone else think we are just going to suck next year? Looking at our position players w/o Greene and Torkelson, we are running out 4th OF'rs at every position. The only starting position player we legit have on a championship calibur team is Schoop. And that's pushing it. You could make the argument for Candy, but a 15 HR 3rd baseman isn't really going to get you far........ (He's no where near the caliber of Mochado, Arenado, Austin Riley etc...) Our pitching is in great shape. But unless we get 7 new fielders, we aren't really going anywhere..... Torkelson, Greene and for argument sake Correa. Lets say we get a flash in the pan and one of our current players takes that next step. We have 4 out of 9 batting spots that are legit..... We are still 2-3 years away from being remotely close to being competitive....... Just my opinion.

  26. I went maybe 20 times in two years. I got a $30 membership for a month at powerhouse. Went twice. In 2003 we got a membership to our city Rec center. Went a few times here and there when I would be in my latest “I gotta get in shape phase”. My wife started to go regularly once both kids went to school all day. Then she took up running. I got a herniated disc when I was 39 and the PT said it was due to my hamstrings. Then and there I made the call. The pain I went thru was bad and I know not as bad as it could have been. No surgery. I considered that luck. Been doing classes and running ever since. Dropped 30 the right way. I’m not sure I was in this good of shape in HS. I couldn’t run 1/4 mile without feeling like I was having a heart attack. Now I wake up every Sunday and do 7-9 miles and so 3 miles a few other times in the week. And do a kettlebell class once and a boot camp style twice.

  28. Comparing a statue of George Floyd to ones erected for those that would have enslaved him, might be the ultimate false equivalency.
    1 point
  29. So basically since we ahouldn't have statues of traitors then we shouldn't have statues of anybody? We're smart enough to decide who should and shouldn't have one on an individual basis. Personally I have to question the motives of someone who wants to put up a statue on US Soil of someone who shot at and killed US Soldiers but that's just me. I don't see the equivalence to a statue of a murder victim.

  33. I'm not going to speak to cases not in evidence, besides which there are whack jobs on all sides - but unless your definition of 'a lot' of democrats is really "a handful of idiots" your implication is hardly justified. The question of which party is continually seen keeping the company of known white nationalists and xenophobes of other various descriptions is not open to serious debate.

  35. If one of those guys, or someone else, turns into a franchise-type QB... go for it. I don't see it just yet... but maybe Malik? But if they don't qualify as a franchise-type.. then please just wait until 2023... I don't want to settle for Andre Ware or some other past failure just because we "need" a QB. Get the right one. End of story.
