  2. Woke up this morning to see my Ukrainian neighbors now have the Ukrainian flag on the front of their house. I look at these neighbors flying their Ukrainian flag and these truckers in their F150's with a dozen American flags and can't help but think the ones flying the Ukrainian flag are more pro America than the yahoos flying the American flags.

  7. By the way, not that it needs to be said, but Putin is not a “genius”. Putin is not a “strong leader”. Putin is not “loved by his people”. He’s a murderer, a fucking animal, and a monster.

  9. I do wonder if Putin has made the mistake of surrounding himself with yes-men and then forgetting that he may not be getting the truth from them. As in, Putin went in believing he had a righteous cause, because everyone around him is telling him that he does, because they believed he wanted to be told he did. Now he's gone past the point of no return, and may be finding out just how badly mistaken he is. Everyone who was afraid to speak in opposition now has no reason to hold back.

  12. No offense, but I am really sick of this narrative. "Wins nothing"...he is the best QB in the league and makes everyone around him a better player. No one player, even the QB, can win the whole thing. The narrative on Rodgers has shifted IMMENSLEY since the whole vaccine thing...people online love railing on him because he did not take the vaccine and lied about it. I never liked Aaron, still do not, but to act like he will not get a ton of offers from teams that need a QB or that it is somehow his fault is ridiculous. What you should really be railing on is the media these days. They are the ones putting this inane crap in our faces 24/7.

  14. It's true. And it is also only barely relevant to his job performance. Americans spend so much time watching actors that they have forgotten that what you do is more important than your elocution. In my book, only Clinton and Obama have been particularly gifted at a podium going all the way back to JFK. Even Reagan really wasn't all that great either when speaking off the cuff. The other thing is that it's time for a President to demand adulthood from the press. No shouting, one question - stated in 15 second or less with no attached essay. Make those the rules and stick to them.

  22. oddly enough, recently my sister and I came across some material my father had brought home at the end of WWII. There were a bunch of single sheet 'flimsies' (what the Brits used to call them, I don't know what we used to call them here, but they are copies made on something that is almost tissue paper) of some kind of news digest that the guys aboard the ships in the Pacific must have gotten - apparently daily or weekly. In any case he had saved a bunch and one was from about a week after the surrender and according to the story the Allies were right PO'd about the post surrender speech Hirohito gave. Really interesting to read a direct contemporaneous news story when it was still today's news and not history.

  23. FCNTX!! As they say, past performance is no guarantee of future results, but CONTRA is a very old fund with history of cool headed management. IIRC Contra was supposed to be based on similar principles to those the legendary Peter Lynch used to build Magellan. I'm not familiar with it current manager but I'd see what I could find on his history and try to read between the lines of his management statements - which should be in the fund prospectus, should give you some feel for whether he is any kind of cowboy.

  34. I love Skye Moore but no way I'm taking him with the Rams pick or our 2nd rounder which brings me to Justin Rogers of the News Mock. He has us taking David Bell from Purdue with the Rams pick and says "In this scenario the Lions miss out on all the number 1 WRs so they'll have to settle for Bell who should make a good number 2." See this is the strategy I hate. If the Lions miss out on all the guys they feel could be number 1 WRs don't just take the next best 1 cause you feel you need to take a WR there. It's not about the rankings of guys it's about the tiers, you don't reach for a guy on the same tier when you can get another one a round or two later.

  35. a lot of the "founding fathers" opposed slavery. however, if they wanted to form a unified country made up of all the states (which they would need to defeat the british) they would need to compromise. so they did. adams did. hamilton did. lafayette didnt because he was french and was more worried about not getting his head chopped off at that time. if you criticize them for that compromise, then you need to realize that the country does not form in the way it did. now, you may say "good, anything is better than a nation that sanctioned slavery", which is a perfectly acceptable opinion to hold. but its with 20/20 hindsight. at the time, the goal was to create a nation. and that nation doesnt get created without a compromise on slavery.

  36. I will say I think Holmes should at least engage Philadelphia (and pretty much every team in between us and Philly) in conversation about their interest in moving up. Not all three picks, they’d hang up on him. If they would consider trading two of 15/16/19 for #2 though, I would strongly consider it, even though the draft chart says we would be losing that trade by quite a bit. Having two prospects in the teens is greater than having one in the top five this draft. IMO.
