Thankfully we aren't here to elect religious leaders. I want more Godless people in government.4 points

its up to both sides to be reasonable. i regard the democrats' position as more reasonable than the republicans' position. neither side can control their extremes any more. the republican extreme being worse than the democrat extreme, as usual.3 points

There are four big differences between this years team and last years teams despite similar records at this time : 1. Talent - This years team has way more talent. Witness Baez, Meadows, Erod, Barnhart, Chafin, Tork etc. 2. Injuries - Mize, Manning, Baez, Greene, Funk, Cisnereo etc. Thats quite a bit. 3. Sustainability - once injuries heal and talent/performance normalizes it should sustain at a competitive level. Last years teams required many career years and flash rookie performances to finish strong. As some here have noted they played over their heads. 4. Expectations - Per Sports_Freak - there was much higher pressure this year than last. It's much easier playing for a loser than a team expected to win. I think this contributed to them playing tight..especially the fielding and lack of clutch hitting. 8-16 sure is ugly. A .500 season now is a major accomplishment but one that is still in the offering as is an enjoyable summer of baseball.2 points

There used to be a term about the people who shielded themselves from accusations about those sorts of sexual peccadillos and sinful afflictions...something, something breastplate of invincibility or some such. Although my google search on that term identified that as an Advanced Dungeons and Dragons magic item.2 points

i think they wanted to codify what most people actually think the law should be: abortion is ok in the first trimester and then only ok after that in very rare circumstances where the mothers life is in danger or other moral concerns like incest or rape. that's how the opinion reads to me. that's why i think they wanted to "do the right thing." i think most americans would take that as the law today. "viability" has shifted somewhat from roe's time as medicine has gotten better, but if its 22 weeks or 24 weeks instead of 28 weeks, that's ok,i think. the problem is that they are judges and not legislators and what they did has dubious constitutional foundations.2 points

I didn't care for Impemba and Allen, but they were better than what they have now. It's amazing that Dickeron is so good, the best in the game I think, and nobody else with the Tigers is even close.2 points

Limits are now organizational... the individual team rosters don't have limits anymore.2 points

i would argue that "my body my choice" makes the baby secondary to the debate, which is also sad.1 point

Every time I hear his name, I think of beef brisket, and he kind of looks like a grillin' guy. He needs a nickname. How about "Beef" Briske ?1 point

I'm pro life. But I also acknowledge that issues like rape/incest/health of mother & child don't fit so nicely into that view. And I cannot quite figure out how this seems to be a one size fits all for some folks. You know, you look at the generalities of the two major parties in the country in their general ideologies. One side is firmly against abortions but damn straight you better be able to holster a killing toy on your person if you so choose. The other side just flips on both, and then you've got the irony of folks that were given the chance of life promoting ending life before the fetus gets a shot at it (exceptions noted above). I have a really hard time squaring this away.1 point

One issue that I've seen raised from the fallout of whatever the ruling happens to be is that it opens a Pandora's box on the right to privacy. Especially in regards to laws restricting travel across state lines (to use an extreme case), but you could also begin to see local law enforcement seeking court orders seeking information on people looking for emergency contraception or ever those seen near a suspected abortion facility. What would stop authorities do the same in regards to guns somewhere down the line? While not completely restricting gun use, but gathering information on those visiting gun shops, gun shows, researching gun information on line?1 point

certain songs that i used to love, but doing radio I played them so much that i don't need to hear them anymore. kind of sad.1 point

the democrats are giving lip service to legal language that talks about protecting abortion rights through the end of pregnancy. that's a political loser and lets the republicans off the hook. the problem with trying to write a law on abortion is there are so many medical contingencies that its almost impossible to do. the democrats have the right idea: that you need to leave open the possibility of an "abortion" for any period of time in the pregnancy because things can go wrong that could kill the mother or leave the baby in a horrible physical state. but when you include such language allowing an abortion at any time for "mental health" reasons for the mother, you leave open a potential parade of horribles that republicans can use as a reason to not vote for it. i'm not sympathetic to having an abortion at 8 months because of the mental health issues of the mother, but i think that never happens. i am sympathetic to democrats trying to craft a law that is politically acceptable, while also needing to include language that does not foreclose the possibility of a later term abortion if necessary and decriminalizes it. and i am not sympathetic to republicans that refuse to compromise for any reason and make the process that much harder.1 point

Most of the people in my life are at least somewhat religious. Most of them you barely even know it because they keep it to themselves. That's how it should be. There are some exceptions.1 point

Hardly a repeat stint... midseason promotion last year, and he got hurt on top of that. He was promoted last June 14, and was effectively done for the season August 4.1 point

Of course there isn't. He can wish he hadn't lost his dream job near home while also being fully invested in the job he currently has. There's enough to complain about with the way things have gone this season without inventing new things to complain about.1 point

There was one I saw a few months ago that covered a Texas college's baseball program during a practice. They timed it perfectly with pitches and hitting.1 point

other than that a team that was expected to hit hasn't and a team expected to catch the ball can't, not much really.1 point

Yeah I was so focused on our suckiness that I didn't realize just how bad the Reds were doing over in the Senior Circuit. Edit: sorry for the double post, don't know what happened but I dropped the ball..... just like the Reds have been doing this year.1 point

I thought the fact that in 2019 the Lions were 3-4-1 with Stafford and 0-8 without him debunked this Stafford nonsense.1 point

almost every nfl qb can throw the ball 50 yards in the air. the question is can he do it accurately and on time. is he scared? is it a 50 yard duck floater? does he handle pocket pressure? can he identify the open receiver and hit him in stride? in the first part of the year goff was awful and the answer to almost all those questions was "no." at the very end of the year, he looked better. more comfortable in the pocket. he was still throwing ducks, but he completed a lot more of them. not a big number of downfield shots, but enough. he looked average. competent. but not really good and certainly not like a top qb. the lions have lots of guys who are ok, or decent, or good on their best days. but they could certainly be helped if they improved those players. and a better qb would make the team better too. if they can draft a potentially better qb next year, they should definitely try to do that. or get a better one on the trade market.1 point

This is the perennial disappointment. Granted, Mize and Manning are big holes to fill in the rotation. The interesting part of the disappointing start is seeing younger guys get playing time. I believe there is time to rebound and be in the chase. The Greene injury could not have happened at a worse time. I’m along for the ride, wherever that ends up.1 point

An update on my wife's lymphoma and chemo- My post about her losing her hair was a false alarm. So far, she's good. We've reached our $4,500 maximum, so we should be done with that. for the rest of the year. I got my Moderna shot number 4 last week. My wife got a shot of Evosheld. This is designed for people with compromised immune systems. Instead of stimulating the body's immune system to produce antibodies, it just injects antibodies. There were several other people in this thread whose family members were involved in chemo. I'd like to hear how you're doing.1 point

I don't think his issue was lack of arm strength. Besides, Drew Brees made a nice career for himself without elite arm strength coming off a shoulder injury. I also don't think in 5 years the same guy who was able to throw 55 yards in the air suddenly can't even throw it 20 yards in the air at age 27 without any serious arm injury.1 point
