Btw, having a “Religion” thread is a truly awful idea. I apologize for responding. That was just stupid. I won’t lock the thread, but it just seems like a no-brainer.2 points

I could watch videos like that all day. I'm really excited about the direction of this organization & the kind of players they're bringing in.2 points

Back in the day I’d be banning people and handing out tickets for shit like this. Now I even say shit. We don’t even have good trolls anymore. The old days were better.2 points

A wave of stupidity has washed over this country and if we don't get everyone we know and then some out to vote for Democrats in 2022 that wave will come crashing down on governmental bodies all over this country.2 points

The beauty of sports is the objective nature of the games. Scoreboard. Politics and religion and all things not sports should be kept separate. Honor Jackie Robinson and leave it at that. The rest is a slippery slope snd owners trying to gain "acceptance/$" probably loose as much as they gain. Just promote the GAME.2 points

If they continue to play .643 for the rest of the season, they'll finish with 91 wins and a chance at the playoffs.2 points

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but he also hit a missile for a double last night to drive in a run.... nearly left the yard. He's gonna have his ups and downs, but he's better than the alternatives and it doesn't seem like his confidence is hurt or anything, so no issue with him learning in the bigs2 points

I understand the intentional walk, but why on a 1-2 count? If you're going to walk him, walk him. Don't wait until you've almost got him.1 point

I posted this in the Michigan Politics thread as well. According to the latest poll, this guy was leading in the GOP Primary field with 19% of the vote I believe. With the MAGA crowd this probably only increases his street cred.1 point

In 1973, as a junior in high school, during the oil embargo when we had to ration gasoline (which was a complete zoo, and a bunch of pissed off people), I was armed with one of these puppies along with a wad of bills in my shirt pocket. Good luck with that today. I've thought about setting up a stand out in a public place with a cash register change drawer, a laptop, and timer. Here, make 20 bucks if you can give the right change back in 10 seconds once the random number hits the screen. Of course take a video of people trying to do this. I think it would be great comedy.1 point

Not sure the Lions need another salary cap guy. Holmes comes from the Rams who apparently can spend as much as they want so just do what they do.1 point

Well, people who believe in evangelical Christianity—and those cynical people who pretend so they can exploit it for votes and power—would argue that this is not a secular society, but a Christian nation. Also, evangelical Christianity was never a live-and-let-live religion, at least not as practiced in America. It is very much a I-get-to-tell-you-what-to-do-and-you'll-like-it-or-else religion. The only thing that's missing is enforcement at the point of a gun which, not for nothing, is what they unironically claim taxation literally is.1 point

I'd love to work for the Lions. I could become the teams College QB Scout. Would they let me wear my SOL t-shirt and a paper bag around the office?1 point

A personal finance class would be good for anyone at any age, adjusted for the level they need addressed. Like compounding. Look how much you will gain by saving your money as it compounds over time. Oh, wait. Saving's interest rates are what???? Bad example. Credit interest rates and inflation rates say "hold my beer."1 point

No thanks on Ayton. Yes, he'll give you more regular season wins, but I'm thinking about the playoffs and if you've been watching the playoffs for the past few years you know that drop coverage Centers are tough to keep on the floor in a lot of matchups. You see them getting played off the court by 5 out lineups, getting their minutes shortened, and sometimes sitting for entire series. I'm talking about guys who were core pieces for their team all year like Gobert, Lopez, Ayton, Adams, etc. Even in the finals just last night they were talking about how Udoka is pulling Robert Williams in order to keep up with the perimeter switching they need against the Warriors. I don't want my highest paid player to be matchup dependent like that in the playoffs. That's the first strike against him. And it's not just a matter of paying him the max, the suns aren't just going to let him walk. If they can't pull off a sign and trade, then it makes way more sense for them to just match any offers and trade him later. That means you also have to give up major assets for the privilege of maxing out a drop-coverage Center. Strike two. And that's before we even get into the character issues, the bad work ethic that has him pulling all-nighters playing video games rather than focusing on basketball, and the fact that it's not even working out on a contender...how's he going to act on a team that's not good yet? Third strike. Give me someone like Mitchell Robinson, Jalen Duren (if we can snag a later lotto pick), or another affordable Center who can give me 90% of what Ayton gives at 30% of the cost and not have to give up assets on top of that cost.1 point

one thing that's obvious to me from reading the gospels is that jesus never felt pitchers should bat.1 point

I'm watching yesterday's game now and just finished his second K (with Meadows on second base).... obviously the swing and miss on the slider out of the zone wasn't great, but in the proceeding couple of pitches he fouled off a couple of pretty hittable fastballs in the zone, including one that was basically center cut. I'm not sure the chase out of the zone is all that much different than the rest of his career, but he's not connecting on a lot of hittable pitches as well. That may be a lot of his problem as well.... it's not just getting pitchers into the zone, it's that he's not doing much damage even when they are in the zone.1 point

I would suggest you study the Bible a little closer. There is a difference between "loving" someone and endorsing a sinful lifestyle as descibed by Jesus. He was the one that threw the money changers out of the temple. If you refuse to accept Jesus (and his rules) you have no place with Him.1 point

I keep flipping back and forth between Murray and Ivey. I think Murray is a better fit because of his versatility and ability to play off of a high end playmaker like Cade in the pick and pop/roll but that Ivey athleticism and rim attacking ability is special. I'm trying to envision a scenario where he learns how to shoot the 3 with more consistency and develops that little floater that Morant perfected and I see immense upside even though the fit alongside Cade isn't ideal. Plus, as we all know, the Pistons really need an injection of high end athleticism in this lineup. Ivey also has that "dog" mentality that I don't see in Murray who seems more content to be a background character in crunch time. I'm sort of cooling on Sharpe the more I think about it. Too much of a mystery box for me and virtually no competitive tape to base anything on. I'd be more inclined to take a shot at him if the Pistons didn't already have their franchise player and had more of a need to take a homerun swing but I don't know if the risk is worth it now, maybe if they get another high pick for Grant somehow.1 point

I just wanted to make sure the opposing view was represented here. The OT definately has things I do not understand or pretend to. But I do understand this: Jesus was asked, which commandment is most important and Jesus replied "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this - Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” I am far from a good Christian but I do try every day to be a better person. All walks of life have been welcomed into my home and cared for, always will be (except Ohio State fans).1 point

Lee is incorrect, it is 100% Biblical. Romans 1:26-27 (NT), Leviticus 18:22 (OT), 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NT). Christians are taught not to support the sin, but they are instructed to 100% love the sinner (which is all of us).1 point

I cannot pretend to know what it is like or to feel this way. I do not think a person is a bigot automatically because they do not believe in a certain life style. You can love and accept a person and not support a life style and there is nothing wrong with that. The world has conditioned many to believe if you do not think the way we/they do, you are wrong or the enemy. People can have opposite opinions and still respect one another.1 point

I didn't want to come back with an overly negative post last year about how their were probably a lot of fluke performances, so instead, I waited to come back with an overly negative post damning the entire organization this year. That's called "self-improvement".1 point

The roster mostly stinks and a lot of the players who don't stink are injured. I would rather blame the owner/management that foolishly decided this was a win now year (but didn't invest the money to actually win) than the manager stuck with the abomination they've inflicted upon him.1 point

I saw the Tigers clobber Clemens in Detroit in 1987. I was behind the plate about nine rows up in the Time Inc seats. Might have been my first-ever free game courtesy of a media vehicle, because of my job. Great memory.1 point
