  1. For all but the deepest and most well-rounded (strong MLB roster with a deep developmental system) teams in MLB, the 40-man roster squeeze is far more fan creation than reality. There's a significant portion of the Tigers 40-man roster that is still sub par at this point, meaning they have plenty of flexibility to manipulate the roster in any way they need to this off-season, with or without Miggy in the mix.

  2. Maybe we find out by asking Tampa to make an offer for him. If they do, we keep him. 😁

  3. Re: Skubal, it makes no sense to create a hole to fill a hole. Young top starting pitching is a huge need for this club, as much or more so than an additional hitter.

  4. Same old same old.... the current generation whines about the ones coming up. My favorite is the complaining about home improvement. Can't find someone? Then quit your job, go to a trade school, and learn to do it yourself. This entitlement philosophy where certain work is for others to do and when you can't find them then it's their problem. You are complaining that others didn't do what you also didn't do.

  5. Just a heads up for those considering adoption. About 4 thousand beagles are becoming available from the hounds rescued from the breeding facility in SW Virginia. The Humane Society is partnering with numerous shelters across the country to help these pups to find good homes.

  6. Speaking of being all kinds of stupid, imagine having gun violence rates that dwarf everywhere else in the world and thinking we're on the right track. THat's all kinds of stupid.

  7. since the cubs won weve had a reality tv star become president, a world wide pandemic shut down the globe, and a war with russia. think of the destruction if the DETROIT LIONS won a super bowl? im not sure the universe is ready for that.

  8. We used to laugh about this years ago, the guy who plays center has to lead off and be a base-stealer.

  9. i'm not sure mac jones is elite, but point taken. just as an aside, i think where those guys go organization-wise means almost as much as their talent. all those players are talented, putting them in a good system is very important in bringing that talent out. hopefully the lions become one of those organizations.

  16. Can't speak for others, but I wouldn't characterize my position as "wanting" or "not wanting", but rather a reflection of reality.... they aren't going to move on from Miggy, particularly with the current way that the roster is structured. Having said that, I don't understand what Miggy's presence does to preclude the Tigers from shopping or trading in order to make the roster better during this trade deadline or in the offseason. The only way Miggy impacts, IMO, is because of salary obligations, but even there he's a sunk cost at this point; contracts are guaranteed in this sport, so the Tigers on the hook regardless. As stated earlier, I do believe if we're hoping for a reduced role for Miggy in 2023, it requires Akil Baddoo to reach his potential and for Austin Meadows to (finally) return and show some signs of life in August. If that happens, you could see a scenario where Meadows needs occasional DH duty, especially if the Tigers were to go out and look for another outfielder in the offseason (they should, but Chris I / Al may have different thoughts) or if someone like Kerry Carpenter comes up and looks decent (despite his massive numbers in AA/AAA, I'll believe it when I see it)

  17. I’ve always believed Miggy’s contract had a lot to do with Verlander being squeezed out. That in addition to that disastrous VMart contract. Hated it then and I hate it now.

  24. I believe the Texas CCW test consists of a quick check for a pulse and then an intensive 20 minutes conversation to find out if you’ve had an abortion, know anyone who had an abortion, or god forbid know of a doctor that does abortions.

  25. Not anymore. He's reached his milestone goals/ and Riley Greene & Tarik Skubal are on this team. So absolutely, not any more. I don't care who replaces him. It's time to look to the future. I want him retired after this season.

  26. The only thing that's required is for the Tigers to say: "Here Miggy, you're retired and here's your $40 million check," That's it. DO it Chris/ Al. DO it!!!

  27. People will speak with their feet: There will be an extensive exodus from regressive anti-abortion states. Possibly in droves, but who can predict the extent...? It has already begun. https://msmagazine.com/2021/09/16/texas-tech-companies-abortion-ban-brain-drain-recruitment-salesforce-donna-howard/ https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2022-07-19/as-professionals-flee-anti-abortion-policies-red-states-start-to-see-a-brain-drain https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/261-politics/80085627

  28. I want Miggy "retired". Before next season starts. I'm with you. It's time to move on. Great career, and love all that he's done with, and for, the Tigers. But it's time to move on and search for the next generation.

  29. No personal aspersions intended (!), but nobody should be given a gun permit for life, ever. They didn't know 20 yrs ago you might not be schizophrenic suffering paranoid delusions in 20 yrs, or that you wouldn't go soft in the head and fall for some Jim Jones type charlatan. Terrible policy. Completely 2A, but still terrible.

  32. That's a separate bridge. Also, the Crimea rail bridge doesn't cut off Russia's southern army. It just cuts off the span between Russia and Crimea (city of Kerch) over the Kerch Straits (between the Azov and Black Seas). They still have the new land route between Russia, over southern Ukrainian territory that they just took, going through Mariupol and Melitopol to still get to Crimea and the rest of their southern army. That won't cut off anything except easy and direct access to Crimea (the bridge). They should still take that out though... but I think that is a separate and later campaign; only if and when the Ukrainians want to make an attempt to take back Crimea should they pull that move. And I don't believe it's smart to go after Crimea either because Russia will unleash their full might and fury to protect the Naval Base in Sevastopol. Possibly nukes. They're not going to fuck around and lose Crimea. No. Possible. Way. But in order for Ukraine to improve their bargaining power, significantly, they have to take back Kherson. Kherson controls the water supply into Crimea. 10 points. Kherson is west of Crimea, and west over the Dnieper (I think they spell it Dnipro) River. If the Ukrainians destroy THAT bridge, they strand 15,000 Russian soldiers west of the Dnieper River, with a dismal possibility of resupplying those soldiers, or their retreat. And facing Ukraine's full "western" campaign to take back that territory. I think those 15,000 Russian soldiers, once the bridge is destroyed and they can't retreat or get resupplied, surrender. 1 point (Putin could give a fuck how many soldiers he loses...). It also puts them in a position to easily win all the territory west of Crimea... and if they reach the land bridge leading into Crimea, they can easily block access into Crimea from the Donbas/ Russia/ Mariupol/ Melitopol highway. 100 points. Now that rail bridge over the Kerch Straits COUNTS.
