  1. Need to get Sewell more involved in the passing game.

  2. There should be a deplaning custom where the first 2 minutes are for who doesn’t need to go in an overhead bin. Just get up and walk out. 1/3 of the plane is now empty. Of course it would never work because there’s always someone who says “yeah but my stuff is right here… I’ll just quickly get it” or “I gotta get off now!” Nothing works when people have to cooperate. 5% of people make life miserable for 95%.

  3. i just hope the lions hire at least one bad coach next year so dan campbell has someone to fire in order to start a new winning streak.

  4. The Ilitch is cheap narrative is lazy and inaccurate. Sitting out this reckless free agency is smart. Did we not learn anything from the Miggy contract? Makes me a bit pissed, though, that Avila didn’t read it better the last few years when teams were being much more conservative with their spending. Harris walked into a tough first offseason where teams are spending like drunken sailors.

  5. What a great fucking game. Good teams win ugly. This in-season turnaround has been nothing short of amazing.

  6. The Commanders are playing better ball than the Giants. The one issue is that the Giants play the Eagles the last game which will likely mean nothing to them so that could be a problem. Either way, if the Lions win out they should be in so just keep winning but to give a little room for error if the Lions lose one, we should root for Washington tonight because I think the Giants losing 2 more is more likely.

  7. Campbell has more wins than Patricia did in his first two seasons. Campbell did not inherit a 9-7 team with a franchise QB in place.

  9. What's going on? I don't understand. Am I awake? What do we do? What does one do when their football team is good? I don't understand. What happened? How is this possible? Is this heaven? Am I dead? Who invented liquid soap and why?

  17. Man, DFAing a player in the offseason with options remaining after offering arbitration, short of some legal mess or something precipitating it... That's Roster Management Amateur Hour.

  19. I think expansion will happen. Whether that’s right or wrong, that’s another story. But Silver is just doing his part to increase expansion fees and drive up value for the league.

  20. Part of the hate is just that when things go south in a Soto outing, they really go south. I can think of at least 2-3 games last year where the meltdowns were pretty epic and you were kinda left wanting to shoot the guy into the sun. The game against Minnesota (after Javy hit the go ahead homer) and the Tampa Bay game late in the year come to mind. My thing is that I don't think he's "lucky" or not without talent. He really does have an electric arm. And the year that he managed last year (overall an up and down year with successful top-line stats), he managed to do largely as a one pitch pitcher as well. That doesn't happen if he's a scrub, and there are other teams who will value that more than the average Tiger fan imo. IIRC, it was reported last year that the Astros had even made an offer for the guy at the deadline, which suggests that at least one team not named the Detroit Tigers values what he provides.

  21. The best move this organization ever made was trading for ABCDEFG.

  22. I imagine one of Soto's virtues is that he has been durable, which seems to be a huge exception for being on the Tigers staff. Then again, maybe that just means his UCL number will be the next one to come up.

  23. i dont think its "discomfort," i think its a lack of knowledge and confidrnce that leads to embracing the status quo. but none of us really know. it could very well be my bias against guys born with silver spoons in their mouths. or my bias against people that make obviously stupid decisions like letting Al Avila run your baseball organization.

  25. I always get an aisle seat and while I don’t stand up right away I will eventually and like to prop both arms up and block the path. Casually. Make sure everyone in my row on both sides get out like I am responsible for them. last summer when flying to fort myers there was an elderly Indian lady on our flight who spoke broken English. People adopted her as their mom or grandma and made sure she got what she needed. She was getting emotional as the guy in a cart led her away. I heard her say “everyone is being so nice to me”.

  26. Are you sure you didn’t fall asleep as the plane was coming in for a landing… dream this….,-and then, wake up when you were the last person on the plane? 😛😉

  27. BYU took two planes to their bowl game. One for the team and one for their wives. I saw two different reports. One said 25 players are married the other said 30. Either way, that is 70-80 wives they had to bring.

  28. I do think, on the board, we probably do slightly underrate the possibility of a bounce back or much better offensive production than 2022. Austin Meadows is a great example... he was a complete non-entity last year and if he does come back and be productive, it's almost serves as a free agent signing of its own and would provide something the team didn't have at all last year. Other individual players could play better than in 2022 as well, such as Schoop or Baddoo or others. Rogers could come in and produce as well. They could make a few signings, etc. Really, what will make or break this team offensively (ie, whether they can hang around league average or end up much worse) will be Greene and Tork, and whether both of them really take that next step forward. I feel decent about Greene, Tork is harder to feel confident in.

  29. Leave Torkelson at first base. He needs to concentrate of learning to hit MLB pitching, not learning how to play 3B better.

  31. Unless you can get a premium player at a relatively young age (which usually means late 20s), free agents are one of the worst ways to a build a team. The top free agents are usually old and expensive. They are most useful to teams that are already good and need one or two more players to get them to the playoffs.

  32. If there were no complications, in most cases a civilian would just take a break from the activity that causes the problem and give it a year to heal naturally and maybe only look at surgery if it wasn't healing, but a 9 figure athete would rather do the surgery and not risk the potential loss of more time, which is fair enough.

  35. I have a hard time figuring why Chris is constantly tagged as the problem when he has been willing to spend on MiLB and training facilities (which his father wasn't) and ponied up substantial cash last year. I don't believe the issue is resource. If that is what was holding them back Avila would still be here doing what the owner who didn't want to spend money wanted him to (given that theory). A problem right now is that other than the stupid money contracts being handed out, which almost every baseball observer here concurs are foolish for the teams offering them, there is precious little available mid-tier where the Tigers have the scope to operate and could theoretically be making upgrades to the team. Teams are keeping young mid-teir players in the fold more than ever because teams know they are the undervalued commodity in the game. I won't bother relinking the dead horse GIF but the Tigers' problem is coming up with enough players of their own to get to within striking distance of what you can do in free agency. Fans who constantly grouse about them not spending Mets level money need to find a different team to root for or accustom themselves to being disappointed because the Tigers, along with more than half the other teams in MLB, can't and will never play in that money league. Mid teir managements have to win with smarts and working harder - that's just the way it is.

  36. Setting this deal aside, the main challenge in getting a free agent to choose Detroit might be less about Ilitch keeping the wallet slammed shut, and more about convincing free agents even at the modest level of a Benintendi to be willing to risk five or so of their prime earning years coming to a team with practically the worst reputation in baseball. The year of evaluation will be as much about next year’s top free agents evaluating us, as it will be about our evaluating the players deep into our 40. It’s a good first step to hire a new brain trust up and down the system and say we’re going to change our process and establish a winning culture, but it’s also up to us to show and prove that it’s really happening. Once we do that, free agents will be vying to come to Detroit.
