Nate Silver mentioned months ago about these polls and the binary aspect being misleading. Someone might say they are not a fan of Biden as a preferred choice, and answer the poll/quesiton that way, but they damn well will vote for him if on the ballot regardless of who's on the other side.4 points

Harold Castro is bad. Candelario was good in 2020-2021 and could very well rebound. Maton could be good too, so I'm thinking more about that, but there is a chance we might we might miss Candelario.2 points

Ted Lasso's conducting the interview. To me the big question on Carter is whether he's willing to buy into what Campbell, Glenn, Scott and the defensive coaches are developing here. I think Campbell and Glen have strong enough personalities for the job. The true test is whether Carter can truly buy into the program.2 points

I have actually served on a school board and helped implement a number safety improvements. We hired a homeland security consultant(actually used a grant). He pointed out areas for improvement. This is a small k-8 Lutheran school of 365 students with a non Existent extra budget. We changed out hinges on all doors so they always spring shut and locked including classrooms. The school was built in the 50’s so glass was not up to safety specs. They sell a film that goes on interior of glass designed to slow someone trying to break through. These are not answers to our gun and mental health crisis. However I keep hearing we need legislation but in the mean time kids are dying. I am just saying there are affordable solutions to help possibly save lives.2 points

I'm sure these meetings are important, but this meeting is really important - more important for the Lions than Carter. Holmes and Campbell have the franchise pointed in the right direction. I'll trust what ever call they (and Glenn) make on Carter.1 point

This is very true. In our situation we ran a mock intruder and had fire and police coordinate the exercise (Passed fire code as well). They both made notes about the school and were given master keys and keyless fobs for quick access. Anything we can do to help prevent tragedy I am all for. I can't change legislation in a dark red state but we can't just sit on our hands... The lefts answer to these killings "Change laws" is holding as much water as "Thoughts and Prayers" when no one does anything.1 point

Bobrob’s 2023 Preseason Prediction #14 – Matthew Gregory Vierling Similar to third base, the Tigers have multiple options for left field, including Matt Vierling, Kerry Carpenter, Akil Baddoo, and Eric Haase. The final roster decision could come down to Carpenter or Baddoo*, almost assuring that Vierling will get an opening day roster spot. Vierling played six different positions last year with the Philadelphia Phillies, including all three outfield spots, third base, second base, and first base, so his versatility will come in handy. He’ll likely get more playing time than a typical bench player as manager A.J. Hinch likes to mix and match his players (there’s also a possible righty/lefty platoon situation here with either Carpenter or Baddoo). Vierling did play in 117 games last year with 357 plate appearances, which is more than a typical bench player. Career ML stats: 2021 – 77 PA | .324/.364/.479 | 2 HR | 5.2% BB% | 26% K% | 121 wRC+ 2022 – 357 PA | .246/.297/.351 | 6 HR | 6.4% BB% | 19.6% K% | 81 wRC+ Sherman had an unsustainable .420 BABIP in 2021, which led to good fortune. In 2022, his BABIP was a more reasonable .290. However, there is evidence that his luck was flipped in 2022; he had a xBA of .279 and an xSLG of .408, suggesting that he has more power than the results show. In the minor leagues, Vierling had an ISO of .141, including a .188 ISO in 95 plate appearances in AAA last year. In the Majors last year, he only had a .105 ISO. His hard hit rate on batted balls was 34.1 percent, slightly better than league average (30.2 percent). His career Major League walk rate is 6.2 percent, which is way below his rate in AA (11.8 percent) and AAA (10.3 percent), so it’s reasonable to assume he’ll improve on this number. His strikeout rate of 19.6 percent was similar to his 18.2 percent in the minors, so there’s probably not going to be a big improvement in strikeouts. Finally, he does have some speed, stealing 22 bases in A-Ball in 2019 and 15 bases between AAA and the Majors last year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see double digits again in 2023, especially if he is frequently used as a pinch runner late in the game (not to mention the bigger bases). Being a right-handed batter, he naturally hits better against left-handed pitching: Vs. RHP – 256 PA | .228/.285/.339 Vs. LHP – 178 PA | .307/.343/.423 If Vierling struggles early on, I can see a strict platoon situation for awhile. Vierling is entering his age 26 season, a prime age for a breakout year…that is if everything comes together (spoiler alert: it rarely does). He has some Major League experience and doesn’t really have more to prove in AAA. If he can get his walk rate up to where it was in the minors and his luck evens out, he should be at least an average hitter for 2023. If all else fails, he should still end up being a quality utility player, considering he’s at least an average defender. *Baddoo was indeed sent down to AAA Experts’ Predictions/Projections: Steamer – 296 AB | .258/.316/.395 | 7 HR | 33 RBI | 9 SB | 23 BB | 65 K ZiPS DC – 325 AB | .239/.297/.353 | 6 HR | 30 RBI | 9 SB | 24 BB | 74 K THE BAT X – 337 AB | .260/.312/.399 | 7 HR | 36 RBI | 11 SB | 23 BB | 72 K ATC – 334 AB | .254/.309/.384 | 7 HR | 34 RBI | 9 SB | 24 BB | 74 K FGDC – 324 AB | .249/.306/.374 | 7 HR | 33 RBI | 9 SB | 25 BB | 73 K RotoChamp – 332 AB | .256/.308/.386 | 7 HR | 34 RBI | 10 SB | 24 BB | 73 K CBS Sports – N/A ESPN – 393 AB | .254/.311/.384 | 9 HR | 42 RBI | 15 SB | 31 BB | 86 K My Prediction: 2022 Prediction – N/A 2022 Actual – 325 AB | .246/.297/.351 | 6 HR | 32 RBI | 7 SB | 23 BB | 70 K 2023 Prediction – 340 AB | .250/.319/.385 | 8 HR | 32 RBI | 11 SB | 34 BB | 79 K1 point

All the students and teachers should carry automatic weapons, wear bullet proof vests, firefighter uniforms, and lug around oxygen tanks and masks in case they either have an armed assailant or a fire breaks out. That's the part we all can play to protect the 2A. It's our God given right and and our solemn duty to protect the precious things He gave to us.1 point

Here a question then. Would you trade with a team this year for the 6th pick for maybe a 2nd or 3rd in this draft and #1 next year? The thought is you would be trading with a team that probably isn't going to be that good because they will have a rookie QB under center and then end up with a very good pick next year. And then you can get your franchise QB next year and still have a great season. Just a thought. Maybe Tennessee or the Raiders.1 point

The logic to trade back isn't hey Miami, it's hey San Diego. And you also don't have to move on from Stafford in year one, you can sit the rookie behind him to dilute the QB market for 2020 and then trade him in the 2021 offseason. I think if you wanted to trade back in 2020 San Diego, not Miami, was your best trading partner. I think the logic was hey San Diego, you and about 2-3 other teams (Miami, Philly) are in the market for and desperate need of a QB. You've got both us and Miami ahead of you who could pick a QB. We know you wanted one of Tua or Herbert, but now you won't get either because we're about to draft one of the two. We are also hanging onto Stafford and will let the rookie sit behind him for a year, so that further dilutes the market of quality staters for you. So unless someone gives us a really great offer for Stafford, he's wearing a Lions uniform next year. However, we are equally interested in trading back to your draft spot, as much as we are in taking a QB at #3. If you trade back with us it gives you the chance to pick your QB ahead of Miami and stops us from taking your guy. If you don't trade back you're not getting Tua, Herbert or Stafford. You are going to be stuck drafting the third QB on your board or desperately looking elsewhere for your stater. Who knows how San Diego valued Jalen Hurts. But based on where Hurts was drafted, it couldn't have been a first round grade. Quinn screwed up because both San Diego and Miami knew he was never seriously going to take a QB. He gave them no incentive to trade with him. I think Holmes is being smart here because he's signalling to teams that all options are on the table, including drafting a QB. Who would San Diego have put out as their starter if Quinn had taken Herbert and the Dolphins Tua? Quinn needed to either call their bluff by drafting a QB or threaten to pull the trigger to get them to move up. Teams have multiple plans for draft night, Quinn could have signaled to San Diego he was equally interested in taking a QB or trading back and it was up to them what he did. If they wanted to let the Lions trade back then they would get their guy. If not, they'd be stuck scrambling elsewhere to find a starter. Good luck with Tyrod Taylor starting in week one.1 point

I'll take McKinstry, Kreidler, Rogers and Vierling over the Castros, Barnhart and Reyes any day. Plus Maton over Candelario too. I think they definitely improved the defense and base running with more upside for the offense.1 point

His MILB OBP was impressive, but his BB% has dropped from 11% to 7% in the majors. His K% has gone from 18% to 29%. I don't see him getting regular chances at age 27 unless someone gets hurt and he gets hot at the right time. It's not a move to get excited about or to complain about either. He gives them a versatile 26th player.1 point
-
The logic is just nonsense. Hey Miami, we're going to draft a franchise QB because we are moving on from Stafford, however, if you trade with us we'll completely change that plan and keep Stafford and let you draft the franchise QB.1 point

I don't like this concept. It's too much 'out of flow'. On onside kick has a tension to it right up to the moment it actually is or isn't attempted. That makes it kind of unique - would like to save that aspect.1 point

i dont think they need to replace juwan. he was doing fine until this season. i still think it was jett. his own mom called him a problem a child. if hunter and kobe come back they should be good to go with some portal help. if you put terrance shannon on this year's michigan team - which was signed, sealed, and delivered until the academic department vetoed it and he ended up at illinois - they're a tournament team for sure.1 point
-
I think there is a point where too fine a point can be put on it. If you have guys who can run fast, cut, and catch the ball, matching their exact physique to an exact position to line-up is not a show-stopper. One of the reasons you pay an O-coordinator is to figure how to use high talent level players that may not check conventional boxes exactly.1 point

The fact that they would pay him $15 million a year without a competent QB throwing to him — and then look to get rid of him when they get a pro bowl QB — says a lot about the shape the Broncos are in.1 point

Cossa and Lethemon continue to backstop the Walleye..they haven't lost since February 4th. Lethemon has 1.99 GAA and .930 SV%. (Lethemon has a 19-1-3 record!) Cossa had some early struggles but he's got the GAA down to 2.45 and the save % up to .913. Next year's GR tandem?1 point

Hope you're right on the power return. I felt bad for him............I mean Vertigo............such a bizarre affliction. It ended Nick Esasky's career. And for anyone who says we lost the trade for him. I disagree. Paredes is not all that great.1 point

There is no way the offense can be as bad this year. Almost every hitter had almost a career worse year. Absurd the hitting coach wasn’t fired in season last year.1 point
