  1. This seems like a really miserable way to live your life, yikes. No wonder our country is so messed up a ton of people are treating it like their favorite sports team.

  4. Bingo. Politics is not supposed to be a rooting for a team exercise, it's supposed to be vehicle for maintenance, repair, and progress of society -i.e. good governace. As soon as your 'side' become more important to you than the objective of improving the result of the process you've not only lost whatever you game you wanted to play, you've lost your country.

  6. This is exactly the world 2A people want, and we know they want it because this kind of event is inevitable when everybody gets to carry guns in public with as little vetting as possible, and yet 2A people still want everybody to be able to carry guns in public with as little vetting as possible.

  7. I've been lamenting not being able to listen to the Tigers on the radio anymore up here in the U.P. Thanks to my friends on this site I was able to get "97.1 The Ticket" downloaded on my phone so I can listen to the Tigers. This old man, who is out of touch with modern technology, would like to thank my Detroit Tigers friends who have helped me to take this giant leap!

  8. McKinstry doesn't hit the ball even average hard, which is a bit of a red flag, so he probably won't be quite this good (wxOBA, walk rate, strikeout rate) permanently. Pitchers in the new league are going to figure out how to better exploit the holes in his bat, probably by pitching to contact and allowing him to get himself out. But he is definitely hitting well now and is serviceable at multiple positions, so he's worth keeping around for as long as we need him.

  9. I'd say he didn't catch it mostly because it was a hard catch. they are all hard running away from the diamond. A catch some guys would make, but no-one else the Tigers have played there any time recently. Well, Jeimer being a transplanted 3b was good in foul ground but he wasn't otherwise a good 1b. The footwork never got natural for him and he didn't scoop throws anything like Torkelson can.

  10. Everybody loves to give Javy crap about his throws but currently he is tied for 5th for all positions in Outs above average and tied for 6th in runs prevented so he's been a big reason why the run prevention has been so much better.

  11. I might counter that his generally poor ability to catch foul pop flys is the bigger reason he didn't catch it.

  12. I wouldn't send Ibanez back to Toledo, I would just cut him, promote Nevin, and promote someone from Erie to Toledo. None of the professional evaluators seems to like Wenceel Perez at all, but I think he has shown that he can succeed in Double A and has earned a move up.

  13. I think that the time is up for Ibanez. There isn't anyone at Toledo really, but I'd rather give Nevin another shot at this point.

  14. Hawk was a ridiculous homer, but he was actually a pretty smart baseball man. I actually found him humorous after a while and he wasn't that bad compared a lot other broadcasters (like ones we've seen with the Tigers over the years).

  18. Yeah, I only listen when I can't watch. 1000 cable channels, Hulu and Netflix but AppleTV+ won't let me sign up. It said to call Apple support. Of course, they didn't supply a phone #. Had to look it up. After 20 minutes on hold, I gave up. (And cussed out Apple)

  20. It doesn't have to be either or. It would be nice if he could do both, as well as the thing you don't mention, which is range to his right to stop balls in play. But he's almost certainly never going to have any range, which is why he is overall a below-average first baseman. Once he starts losing even the skill to scoop balls, stretch and do the splits, that's when he will need to be moved off the field entirely. In the meantime, he needs to hit enough to overcome his deficits on defense, and it looks like he's moving in that direction pretty nicely.

  22. no doubt a lot of media people are just waiting for a vehicle to come along that will let them get out of Elon's playground, but the alternative isn't clear yet - though Elon seems intent on guaranteeing something will.. The base problem, and almost certainly the reason Twitter was both so successful and so broke in the first place, was that the model has too little income potential for it's operator. But of course that is exactly what made it attractive to its users - low cost. From an economic standpoint, it seems unlikely that another vendor will enter the market with a product that is so user cost friendly and that will be the hurdle for anything else gaining market share.

  23. Sure! When the covid discussion gets going, you can discuss how the locked up people screaming from their windows didn't really happen and, when the covid discussion ends, you can move on to how the guy who stood up to the tank in Tiananmen Square was bought and paid for by the American Government.

  25. I'd expect Short to get more at bats in the immediate future and they'll give him an opportunity to shore up an infield spot. McKinstry was a great find and the kind of move the Rays make all the time, so that is highly encouraging for the future. I think the Tigers are several position players short for this specific season, but Harris has done a lot of good things so far given what he inherited.

  26. And Torkelson has saved him multiple errors on his throws. Tork seems like a huge target at 1st base.

  27. Surprised JV or Max aren't on that list. Tigers pitching today; 13 strikeouts and zero walks. Just about as perfect a game as they've played all season.

  28. With the Tigers closing in on first place, I don't think Harris is going to allow the weak spots to just keep playing. I can see him making a minor trade for a Kerry Carpenter type (preferably right-handed) who isn't going to be a long-term regular, but can play a role. Or maybe there is another McKinstry out there

  30. If I’m getting the maths right, Short had more RBI last night than Schoop has had this season, right?

  31. I generally like Jason Benetti, but I wanna slap him for saying TORK! should have used two hands to catch that popup. First of all, it was back of him over his shoulder, so no way he’s getting a right hand over to his glove to catch that ball “with two hands”. But the larger point is ballplayers haven’t needed two hands to catch a fly ball in decades. Back in the early 1900s, maybe you needed two hands because gloves were exactly hand sized. Now they’re way bigger with roomy webs. A first baseman's glove is 13”, for cry eye. So you don’t need a second hand to catch the ball. Much of the time a second hand just gets in the way.

  38. Dan said a little bit ago that Giolito is pitching like he's facing last year's Tigers, just trying to get them to chase everything. I'm quite pleased that that doesn't work so well any more.

  41. The theory is Langford would be cheaper and there isn't a big gap between Crews and Langford. Keith Law thinks any of the top 5 guys could go #1 in a typical draft. Maybe it is groupthink, but every analyst I've seen agrees about the strength at the top of the class.
