  3. So, go for the high OBP and high SLG and don't worry about batting average.

  4. That seems to be one of Harris's big themes and he did get rid of most of the players that can't walk. Still only average for the season, but they were LAST in 2022. On the pitching side, they have allowed the second fewest walks in MLB.

  5. Always envied teams that worked a lot of walks. Nice to see this approach.

  7. This might be why Malloy is at 3B in Toledo.

  8. Oh, I think that’s pretty right. It wouldn’t shock me to see us get swept by the Rangers. We’re probably going to have a 10-20 run at some point. We’re nota good team yet. We’re punching above our weight right now. That’s why I still say 75 wins. But, damn it, I’m having a great time watching this team. 😎

  9. A baseball game is pretty multivariate, but you can take right back to the way they chased Cease - it meant that we had our BP ace available for the 10th and the Sox had already spent theirs.

  10. I don’t think enough is being reported about the A’s this season. They are on pace for a bout a 30-win season without any hope of much improvement the rest of the way. They could obliterate the all-time futility MLB record.

  12. and a 90 run differential between us and Mn. All old Pythogaras can do is contemplate how acute the Tigers have been.

  17. The Tigers finally get back to that elusive 1 game under .500 mark! I believe they were 0-7 before this in games where they could have reached it.

  18. That's the kind of AB I don't like to see from Torkelson. Takes a thigh high FB he could have ripped, takes a hanging breaking ball nearly middle middle that could have been pasted, then swings at a ball and gets himself out. Don't take strikes you can hit - you might not get another. You can say that out was about swinging out of the zone, I'd say it was as much about not swinging in the zone.

  19. I'd like to find out if that's still true, he's only had 3 AB's against lefties this year.

  21. I've got FOUR pitches vs. the Tigers that weren't even close, but called strikes. A few vs. Sox hitters too.

  22. I didn’t want him DFA’d, but I admit that I didn’t expect him to be counted on for much and was likely to be insurance at Toledo. He has exceeded my expectations and I’m glad to be wrong (again).

  28. Setting aside his lack of morals, decency and honesty both personally and professionally, the big problem with Trump for me isn't so much that he's (now) a Republican. It's that he's a populist... and populism is a pretty big turnoff for a lot of voters because it tends to be long on griping, complaining and exploiting outgroups (ie. all the culture war BS) and short on actual policy solutions. And unfortunately, he has remade the entire party in his image... even in who the establishment Rs have elevated (ie. DeSantis), they are signaling that they think the problems that voters have with Trump are more style over substance... just repackage the Trumpism without Trump. And it's very much not clear that is the case... If the Democratic Party ran a candidate who positioned himself like the above, they wouldn't make it to Super Tuesday, let alone win the whole thing because the largest constituencies in the party (ie. black voters, college whites, etc.) are more policy driven than grievance driven voters.

  29. anyone who won't cross the party line away from their preferred party when they don't like their party's candidate will never get better candidates from their prefered party.

  30. Sure! When the covid discussion gets going, you can discuss how the locked up people screaming from their windows didn't really happen and, when the covid discussion ends, you can move on to how the guy who stood up to the tank in Tiananmen Square was bought and paid for by the American Government.

  31. From the Google machine.. At the Loons’ home park in Midland, Mich., the timer is operated by a rotating crew of four retirees and five high school and college kids on internships. At Classic Park, the Daktronics All Sport 5000 Series Control Console is run by Brian Solar, a semi-retired former Federal Reserve Bank vault teller who was brought on as a seasonal employee. “The ump doesn’t tell you when to start the clock all the time,” Solar said. “You have to have your own sense of when it should start. So if there’s a base hit out to left field and they throw the ball into the shortstop, it’s kind of up to you to decide, ‘OK, now start the 30-second clock between batters.’ You have to develop a feel of not doing it too soon. Because if you do, the ump is going to signal for you to cut the clock.” So it’s an important job. Solar takes it seriously, meeting with the umps before each game to go over hand signals. https://www.mlb.com/news/how-pitch-clock-is-working-in-minor-leagues-in-2022

  32. You would have to pay the balance of Schoop’s salary and expect very little in return. Even in 2021 when he was playing well, we couldn’t move him. Now his range is an issue, without the shift, and he doesn’t walk, hit or hit with power. Besides those flaws, he should be in high demand.
