Back to the Candelario discussion lol.... Food for thought: if they resign Candelario, is Zach McKinstry a Tiger today? Do they actually make the Phillies trade which, as bad as Nick Maton was, also did bring back Matt Vierling? Maybe that's a fine outcome, even preferable, YMMV... but they had a small window to make a decision after the 2022 season ended, before any free agency happened, and they made it. And we have to acknowledge that, because of butterfly effect, it could have had impacts on acquisitions that would have happened afterward and that might have not been entirely great either. I'm happy for Candy, but idk, I don't think it's a huge loss....5 points

Also we're not privy to what he may or may not be working on or struggling with. Just throwing this out as an example, what if he specifically struggles with high fastballs right now and the Tigers want to have him show them that he can atleast hit AAA ones before exposing him to major league ones. Again not saying that is the case but just cause a guys overall numbers are good doesnt mean there isn't something in particular he struggles with that the team may want to see him improve at first before throwing him into the fire.4 points

Maybe Montreal could sign him and Zadina could try to fill their net with pucks... during development camp or pre-game warmups.2 points

The thing about this is that it is very very difficult to believe the Republicans would manufacture a scandal. Would be very unprecedented.1 point

A double, a home run, and a stolen base. That's like one of those "Gordie Howe hat tricks".1 point

Jim Price really slowing down. Dan’s been feeding him setups all game, Jimmy responds to about a third. It was a good run, but if he had hung ‘‘em up at the end of last season it would have been fine.1 point

Everything about that trade is skewed by what has happened to Meadows. If Meadows were giving us 80-90 rbi, which was the common expectation, we’d be fine with what Isaac has done. I don’t think anyone in the Tiger org thought Paredes was a bust, they were just completely blindsided by the result with Meadows.1 point

Yeah I prefer Langford just cause I think his bat is a little better(Crews defense is better though) but I'll gladly take either. But let's be real we all know how this is gonna turn out, the guy we don't get will turn into Mike Trout and the guy we draft will be a bust.1 point

Trust me, I get it from a production standpoint. But balancing the short term fortunes of the team and the long term fortunes of the team are two different things.... as you suggest, injuries have been a factor as well and they will get a couple of players back. Hopefully that will happen. And I would add, regarding your last point, I don't know if it is smart for a front office to manage a team entirely off of pressure from it's fanbase.1 point

Get it done Stevie! A day later and I still can't believe Zadina is agreeing to terminate his deal lol1 point

Well, the big elephants in the room are Keith, Meadows, and Justyn Henry-Malloy. Keith, I've gone over to death, is somebody you want to keep that PPI tag attached to. Meadows just started heating up in the last month (as I replied to a Woodberry tweet about why he wasn't brought up when Baddoo and Greene were hurt: he hadn't earned it yet at that point). JHM is probably the one I would try to bring up, but his fielding clearly leaves a lot to be desired and it just just tough to have two DH-only RHB on your squad. Keep that sentence in the holster next time a Miggy fanboy says he's not hurting the team this year. Maybe they think Meadows and Malloy could get some prospect helium and enter the PPI tier by the end of the year, but I doubt it. Others, in rapid fire: Papierski and Knapp have both hit pretty well in Toledo for catchers. I wouldn't expect them to get the call unless there was an injury. Rogers has clearly established himself as the go-to catcher, and while Haase has tapered off this year, he does provide some flexibility playing capable outfield that those vets haven't. Jonathan Davis's opt out was ill-timed, as he would have gotten a shot a week later after the rash of outfield injuries. Kreidler's injury kept him from getting another shot. Donny Sands and Andre Lipcius haven't done enough to earn a call, and neither has Solak who was a one time decent starter for the Rangers. We'll see if Camargo can get going, but he is a definite churn option.1 point

Candelario is 29 and had a terrible season in 2022. Both he and the Tigers needed a change of scenery. Are you investing 3-4 years in a guy who is on the back end of the aging curve and not consistent? A 1 year deal to make a terrible offense incrementally better doesn't do much good.1 point

Agree here. Its not like he went skydiving or cliff diving or even riding a motorcycle. I have lit those boxes up for about 7 years in a row as a PART of a large overall display. Me and 7 others. Not a single problem, we all still have all fingers. If risk is an issue, without taking any time to cite studies (not doing it) if seems there's lots of everyday activities he needs to avoid also. Social Media outrage...nothing more.1 point

Regarding Colt Keith, one issue I take with the "call 'em up" cries is that there are legitimate questions as to his fielding and ensuring he can play third at this level. And we just lived through this with JHen, who has recently been moved off third. This just seems to get pushed to the wayside whenever his name comes up, the hivemind just looks at the offensive statline and says "doesn't matter, nothing to learn at AAA, call em up"....1 point

Last time this board (well, the last one) universally loved a show that I ignored was Breaking Bad and I regretted it immensely when I had to catch up on the entire series plus four seasons of Better Call Saul. Think I'll learn my lesson and try The Bear tomorrow. I don't have the time nor the attention span to binge anything though so it'll probably take me a couple weeks.1 point

Next offseason will be very telling. E-Rod won't be here, Miggy will be retired and Schoop won't be resigned. That's $53 million off the books and I hope Baez bolts too, and that would be about 75-78 million off the books. That's a clean slate right there. Will Chris spend anything? He'll have to overpay to come to this city and terrible team, is he willing?1 point

he set off some fireworks like many americans do. i dont think that means he's stupid, it just means he likes fireworks. he's young and rich, he's gonna do a lot of the things young men do. that said, his agent should probably have a conversation with him about risk.1 point

Adding Kostin and Fischer is huge also...we're becoming a heavier team to go up against. I wonder how much Zadina could make playing in Europe? Tough to see him making anywhere close to the 4 mil he's walking away from in NA1 point

Colts Minor stats: OPS of .907 in 792 Plate Appearance Torks: OPS of .889 in 685 Plate appearances. So pretty comparable and tork's sample is smaller than 'keith's current small sampe size"1 point
