I also think pushing in and not cashing in on Michael Lorenzen at peak value would be regretted for years.4 points

It is. Many there don’t even bother with HVAC. Every day starts out overcast then around 9ish it starts to become blue sky. I will say my experience last week is it’s warmer than the temperature indicates. It was a hot 78. We were in pacific beach and everything is 20 min away. Hit up the USS Midway. Torrey Pines. La Jolla. Balboa Park. The Zoo. Gas lamp district. Coronado island. And a few beach days.3 points

While making today's post in the "One and Done" thread, I mentioned Ivan Rodriguez playing in a 2004 game with Zack Greinke, representing 32 seasons in a single game. That got me thinking...what game has the most seasons represented between two players? Doing a bit of baseball-reference research (yes, I'm off today)...I came up with 47. On June 16, 1986, pitcher Jamie Moyer made his MLB debut for the Chicago Cubs in a 7-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies starting pitcher that day was Steve Carlton, marking 47 seasons of baseball between Carlton's MLB debut in 1965 and Moyer's final game in 2012. Can any game top that? (Hint: I already checked Nolan Ryan, who did appear in a game opposing Eddie Mathews, but that's only a span of 41 years from Mathews's debut in 1952 to Ryan's final season in 1993.) Update: I don't think 47 seasons can be topped. Second place may be on May 3, 1979, when Mets rookie pitcher Jesse Orosco struck out Giants first baseman Willie McCovey...that's 44 seasons from McCovey's debut in 1959 to Orosco's final game in 2003. Tommy John and Early Wynn were both on the Cleveland Indians roster in September of 1963, but they never appeared in a game together. That would have given us 50 years from Wynn's debut in 1939 to John's final game in 1989, but alas, it was not to be.2 points

Because A. I have no life and B. this kind of thing is fun for me I have been looking through potential trade partners and their prospect lists and just checking to see who may match up with us in both need and prospects. Texas: Foscue- Already talked about this it makes a lot of sense given Harris' love of a good hit tool and him being blocked. Arizona: Blaze Alexander, seems like a RH McKinstry with a bigger arm. He doesn't have the high hit tool but seems to be in the mold I think that Harris and Hinch like. Tampa Bay: Osleivis Basabe 60 hit tool and has played all around the INF but not sure if TB would be willing to trade him for a rental. Baltimore: Cesar Prieto is a lower ranked player but has a solid hit tool hitting .333 with a 19/25 BB:K split between AA and AAA.2 points

Yes, it's so hard. It really sucks to be white. https://news.yahoo.com/poll-trump-voters-racism-white-americans-problem-black-reparations-politics-090038973.html?.tsrc=daily_mail&uh_test=0_00 Yes, Trump voters think racism against White people is a bigger problem than racism against Black people. Donnie can claim he is not a racist, but he's the guy the racists love. It's the American version of "The Troubles" Ben summed it up 23 years ago. The song is spot-on. Y'all don't know what it's like being male, middle class and white2 points

Not sure—beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Dombrowski was skilled at moving prospects that other teams seemed to value enough to give up a good player in return. And we’re not barren—I would think Malloy, Meadows, Flores, Madden, Jobe and Jung have value. And I agree that Keith should be available in the right deal. I just would like us to be open to taking advantage of the market to improve our offense. If we just want to be sellers, that excludes opportunities with teams who are also selling.2 points

I used to listen to Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton and Hank Williams on long drives because those songs are so damn catchy. Whatever the hell this bs calling itself country is now... ugh.2 points

I think another way to look at it is what is the division winner win total and what would it take for the Tigers to surpass it? Fangraphs has Minnesota at 83.5 wins. Detroit is 44-52. 84 wins would require finishing out at 40-26, a .606 winning percentage. Is it possible for the Tigers to upgrade themselves enough to that kind of team? Kind of seems doubtful to me. Can they "buy" controllable players that could impact this season without compromising the farm system? I think it'd be quite the balancing act to do. The lineup is just awful, so any kind of move would seem to improve it at a few different positions. Will the pitching backfill for guys traded be sufficient enough as well? Seems a daunting task.2 points

Fangraphs playoff odds as of this morning 3.0%... PECOTA doesn't update until later in the day, but 0.4% as of yesterday. I'm still selling.2 points

Not that they would be the same groups of resources going through the efforts, but the time and energy spent on trying to trade Baez or anger him to the point of opting out would be better spent to help him get back to the player that he was in Chicago.2 points

Small thing but why are they are parading him around Detroit when he could be down in Florida actually starting his career. I hate that the draft is so late now.1 point

The ironic thing about keeping Javy for four years is that people think we'll end up moving him to second base or third base, but shortstop is exactly the position where a weak bat plays best, and he is still arguably the leading defensive shortstop in the league.1 point

8 games under .500 and 5 games out of first, with 66 games to go. I understand that the roster might be weaker after the deadline, and I'm fine with that. But I think the roster as of today, healthy, is better than a .450 team. So at least for the next few weeks I'm invested in game outcomes because I can see them both moving towards the .500 mark and chipping away at that divisional deficit.1 point

I met him once. His handler told me to mention how much older he was than his wife because it was one of his favorite things to hear. In hindsight I think I was set up. Still he was very kind and engaging.1 point

Counterpoint: Ukraine has retaken 180 sq. kilometers in the south and has retaken 30 sq. kilometers surrounding Bakhmut. Ukraine is on the verge of cutting off Russians in Bakhmut from retreat or resupply. Bakhmut. Putin's greatest victory in Ukraine over the past YEAR. Bakhmut. Prefer to get everybody of course but Im most concerned with McGonigle so if we got to max out to get him and lose the late round HS guys so be it. Either way though I'm 99.99% positive that the Tigers won't go over the max and lose their pick next year. They will probably get to within a dollar or something minuscule like that.1 point

You have to trade them something of value. Really? A 3rd rate, middling starter, and a up and down relief pitcher.? That won't get anything of value in return.1 point
-
I want them on the 2023 playoff roster for the Detroit Tigers to defeat the AL East champion Rays or Orioles. If Baltimore can do that to us in 2014, we can do that to them.1 point

Barring a completely catastrophic turn of events (think major medical flags or the kid just straight walking away), this deal gets done. They knew exactly what he wanted before they picked him and don't make the selection that high without it being a 99% certainty. Once they drafted McGonigle, their math and draft decisions included his number.1 point

perfect example of a nice win for Avila that somehow we can't give him credit for; it does not change the fact that he was overall really bad1 point

The fans, as usual, misdirect their anger. Javy in the lightening rod becase of the contract, but that's sunk cost, forget about it. A SS with a great glove is the one place a team can afford to carry a non-productive bat. The Tigers real issue is the line-up is too short overall, particularly at 3B, OF, an C. Greene, Torkelson, Rogers (who doesn't play enough), Carpenter, Vierling, and I suppose Cabrera, just is not enough hitters - period. It would be nice if SS was another big bat, but there are other positions they need to put better bats into where there is a better probability of finding one, and a better glove at 3B would be nice as well. I even get the impression the team is fine with Baez being the focus of frustration because it diverts attentions from the other deficiencies.1 point

Would fans really not want Miggy since 2008 just because his 2021-23 contract was too expensive? Do fans actually believe we would have spent his money on other quality players? I'll take the last few years of him being WAY overpaid for the joy he has brought me as a fan. A Triple Crown, people. Nobody can ever take away that achievement.1 point

Holton is still a rookie; Tigers control him through 2028; looks to be a decent piece; I doubt a reliever with low Ks gets any significant return, but if some team is desperate for a LHR and wants to pay Harris a premium, then sure, trade him1 point
