It was a hell of a year. A tremendous amount of fun. About all you could hope for, lots of good players (and coaches) to root for.4 points

Remember how you felt when the Pistons first lost to the Celtics and it crushed you, got over that hump and then lost to the Lakers (ON A BULLSPIT FOUL CALL AGAINST BILL LAIMBEER THAT EVEN - YEARS LATER - KAREEM SAID WAS NO FOUL). It hurt like hell. They'd never come close. But it toughened them up. Remember the Red Wings getting swept by the Devils after FINALLY getting to the Finals. Then they lost that gut-wrenching series to the Avalanche. A dirty play and the pain from that loss galvanized the team and they won the Stanley Cup on March 26, 1997, the rest of that season was academic, it was theirs from that point on. Those teams were resilient. Does anything ANYTHING AT ALL make you believe this Lions team is not? No way they crumble. No freaking way. They might not win it all, but dammit they are going to be in the final four a few more times with this group - and if Brad keeps drafting this way, even longer. Go ahead and lose hope. I won't and this is a guy who never believed the Lions had a spine before. They do now.3 points

My random thoughts, for what they are worth as someone who didn't watch a lot of football for a long time until this year: Going for it? On one of them it would have worked if the ball was caught, which it looked like it should have. I personally wanted the field goal because I figured at that point in the game you try to match point for point. The only time I let a "Wow, they might actually win this" was when they held SF to a field goal to start the third. On the end zone play where the ball bounced off the face mask, a flag was thrown. What was that? I assume even if he'd have caught it they would have called PI? Why did the ref throw it? I mean.... would it have shocked you to have that called if the Lions caught it? The one thing that really bugs me about all of this is the fans thinking "Well you gave back 6 points so that means the Lions would have won by 3". Even I know that's not how it works. The game would not have progressed the same way if they kick a field goal on 4th doan in the third. The final TD would not have happened the way it did if they were within 7 points. The defense plays a different game in that situation when it takes 2 scores to tie or win. The other team wants to win too. SF is good. Their offense was pretty much doing what they wanted. Even if the Lions had taken the points I can easily envision a scenario where SF marches down the field and scores a winning TD to close it out. Remember SF missed a FG. This is the team and coaches that made it this far. Do I think they blew it? I guess so in the sense that in a playoff game that ends with a 3 point margin... the losing team probably blew it. Every losing team in a close game can look at this or that play or decision as the difference. That's sports. Yes it would be easier to stomach if the niners jumped to a huge lead and the Lions clawed back to fall short... but would that have been fun? Is that why you are a fan? I just don't have time for armchair radio hosts second guessing the going for it decisions. If they didn't go for it and lost by 3, they'd turn around and say crap like "You played a certain way all year then changed your mind and don't trust your players that got you there...." This was fun and I hope you all are doing ok. I haven't been this amped up for a sporting event since the 2013 ALCS and 2009 SCF. I couldn't fall asleep. I got up in 3:30 to go to the bathroom then started thinking about 2 dropped passes and 2 missed tackles...3 points

I'm done. Blocking you. You're just a troll. We won a few games because of Dan Gamble and we lost one too, a big one. Probably don't get here without that aspect of it and I don't think fans in this town are going to get too upset over that. I'm 60 later this year, I have seen every other team win a title here and I saw everyone of them go through gut wrenching losses (except the 1984 Tigers)..............You can tell when something is a fluke and when something is real. This team is real. They've been led by rookies and sophomores.............imagine how good those guys are going to be. And I trust Brad Holmes. The man is so good at the draft. Cry in your beer tonight, but get ready.......no more loveable losers around here anymore. Niners just went through this feeling two years in a row and it didn't stop them from winning tonight.3 points

if you had never seen goff play and you read this thread, you'd think he was either tom brady or rusty hilger. lol.2 points

In hindsight its easy to say he should have kicked the FGs but at the end of the day 1 TD is worth more then 2 FGs and the plays were there and not made by the players on the field. I believe that we have 2 glaring weaknesses that make me good with those decisions. Our kicker is below average for an NFL kicker and our defense is prone to given up lots of chunk plays and points. To finish this year in this spot is a positive and I believe we are here one year faster than Campbell and Holmes were planning on which is why the above weaknesses are still there. This offseason I believe we correct these issues as we have a good drafting GM, cap space to use and a young team with energy that free agents are going to want to be part of. It was a fun season and should be a fun offseason as well. However ,this loss stings for now.2 points

The Troll is going to troll. Yeah, fire everyone. It hurt when the Pistons lost to the Celtics and Lakers It hurt when the Red Wings lost to the Devils and Avalanche This is the beginning. I have said this in this playoff run. This team is not even at it's peak yet. San Fran went through this the last two years too. This team is going to be a Super Bowl favorite for the next 3 years.2 points

Well fellas, it was a good nineteen and a half game run. Let’s draft some CBs and another pass rusher, shall we?2 points

Feel free to post your reviews. Here's mine (please note I am probably the least experienced person to talk about this)....... 1. Can't blame Campbell for this last loss. Too many dropped passes, flukes on plays, giving up a QB running for 75 yards up the middle when I'm faster than him.... Can't blame Campbell. My wife came in all excited as halftime was starting saying "They are up 17 points?!?!?! WOW!". I replied, "It ain't over yet, unfortunately....." 2. Maybe blame Aaron Glenn? - I know a lot of people like him and he's well-respected around the league. Honestly, if he goes though, I wouldn't mind. I'm hoping a team snags him as their new Head Coach. 3. The Lions need to invest in Cornerbacks. - Jerry Jacobs and Cam Sutton Blow.... Hard. I'm talking about the type of blowing you'd find on the corner of Woodward in a skirt. They both need to be cut. Each game has been more and more depressing to watch these two. 4. Lions Draft - CB, CB, DL, OL, WR would be my preference. They need two high Defensive backs and another rusher. Their DB's are the 3rd worst in the league and it cost em. Overall thoughts - Love Campbell's aggressiveness going on 4th down. He's a players coach and I love that he goes for it more than anyone else. - I'm still not sold on Goff being the QB of the future. I would love a more mobile guy and a QB that can actually throw a spiral. All of his throws are wobbly as all get out. - Going into the draft the Lions HAVE to focus on their secondary. They need to cut Jacobs and Sutton. They also need to replenish their Dline and O-line. - The Lions won a lot of games this year they shouldn't have. I am VERY surprised they made it this far. It was fun and exciting. Now having said that, even if I think they are a lot worse than most, blowing a 17-point lead is inexcusable. I get that there were some fluke plays but still, that's nuts. Some players need some soul-searching..... - The Lions overachieved this year but I think next year they have a chance to end up right where they ended this year. They could be a Super Bowl team with a new secondary and some depth. They should have cap space to spend to shore up some things. Here's hoping for one more tremendous draft to get them where they need to be......1 point

Any QB can do what Goff does yet not every QB does.1 point

He did wow me with that pass off the defenders helmet, not going to lie.1 point

I 100% agree. Goff could have been better, but he was more than good enough. The receivers need to catch those balls. And I agree that we need to remember that the 49ers are a good team. There is a reason they were the 1-seed. There's a reason they've been to the NFC Championship three years in a row. This is a very, very good team and the Lions hung with them quite well. Honestly if you'd have said to me before the game that the Lions would lose, but just be 3-points I would have said: "That sounds exactly right... maybe even a little better than what I would have thought." It's just heart breaking that they were ahead by so much and then lost.1 point

After sleeping on it, I think the main issue with Campbell going for it on multiple 4th downs was our poor FG team. We need a good to great kicker. Bagley isn't that guy. And going for it on 4th downs may work fine against a regular season game against non-contenders but doing it against other SB contenders has to have a much lower % of success. And yet, the plays were there if the players had just executed. And coming back and scoring a late TD shows this team does have grit and never surrenders. I'm proud to be a Lions fan and I feel really good about our future. Just wait until next year!! 😆1 point

Weren't the Lions supposed to have this target this year after finishing 8-2 and coming in as division favorites?1 point

This really feels like the 2006 Tigers. Didn't expect to be there but once they go there they faced an 83 win team and blew it with a comedy of errors from the pitcher.1 point

I don't know, keep me on the edge of my seat riding this rollercoaster all the way til damned near February or go back to being a doormat. I'll take the former every time. Might not win it all but would you take back that run we had with the Tigers from 2011-2014? I sure wouldn't. Didn't get all the way but it sure was fun, a lot better than the last freaking decade. Niners don't have Mahomes or Brady, they've been to this game 3 years in a row. The NFC is winnable. Lions feel like 2-3 players away (and yes, they'll lose a few in the process too).1 point

The defense gave up 27 points in the 2nd half. It seems given how poorly the defense was playing, going for it was the right call.1 point

This is how I feel. I'm very happy where he has gotten this team. He's the reason we are here. Any other coach we've had would have never gotten us this far. It was a great season and Campbell is a big reason why it was great. I love MCDC and I love this season. In my mind though, his decisions not to take at least one of the two field goals, along with the Gibbs fumble, really hurt us. I can't help but blame Campbell here.1 point

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Enjoy your new team1 point

I would consider that a win for the rest of us.1 point

Bitch all you want...this team is close. Upgrade the secondary and DE1 point

And it would be a one score game. Irrelevant though. It was a 14 point game. You had a chance to go back up 3 scores and you punked out on a 45 yard FG. Quit on the team.1 point

Dan Campbell should be fired for this disaster. He threw the game. He literally bet on the niners. I’ve never seen anyone cheat like this. Dan Campbell needs to **** off.1 point

Dan Campbell has been aggressive and gone for it from day one. To change your philosophy in the biggest game of your life would be a massive mistake. Continue to do what got you here and live with the results.1 point

Don't like that 1st down call, the running game is working just stick with it, not to mention you want to milk this drive until the end of the half so wouldn't have been the best time to go over the top anyway.1 point

This move boosted my confidence in the organization quite a bit. Harris has made important changes to player development all along, but this is really the first move which indicated how he might go about building the major league roster and managing payroll creatively and boldly.1 point
