  1. It's nice to come here and socialize with people who know what's going on. Coming across other places and posts where people are furious that Jackson Jobe isn't starting Opening Day, much less coming North with the team because he struck out 2 guys destined for A-ball in a meaningless game. Freaking out because he can throw it 102 mph. I try to explain that Matt Anderson could hit 102 as well and the general answer is "who?". Why don't they just send Baez to Toledo? Don't try bother explaining anything about MLB options. It's like talking to a flat earther.

  2. If you want to hear unvarnished commentary on a baseball podcast, the kind that does not fluff a particular team, Major League Baseball, or The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball, you can't do much better than Foul Territory. They can have as much annoying insidery banter as any other podcast, and they sometimes pull punches on player commentary because they are still part of the brethren. But when they get on a roll about the state of the game, it can be really exhilarating, because they are beholden to nobody on the inside. The stuff they've said, for example, about Anthony Rendon after his ill-advised comments, and about the Oakland Vegas A's situation in general—just 👩🏽‍🍳💋.

  3. Not sure the value of all of the Baez bashing, unless it’s therapeutic for everyone. He is what he is—I think he’s trying, just has lost his ability to hit. Can’t blame him for accepting a guaranteed paycheck. And it’s not as if this front office signed him, so can’t rag on them. I cope/rationalize that this is a sunk cost. I doubt he makes it to the end of his contract, and maybe doesn’t even get through this year. I’m OK with that outcome. I think Harris/Hinch will cut bait, If necessary. Of course, with no clear heir apparent, it is everyone’s best interest that he can become serviceable.

  4. I give Harris credit that he didn’t let his ego get in the way and blow up/move the assets that Avila accumulated through the draft (at least not yet). For better or worse, this is Avila’s team and likely will be for the next season or two. Hard to separate the innate talent that was drafted from the skills development each has subsequently acquired.

  5. Great new song. I wouldn't call myself a big Kacey Musgraves fan, but I might be now with this album. This song is about John Prine and has a great "Clearmountain Pause" at the 2:30 mark.

  6. I haven't been into the home recording studio stuff in a long long time, I was never that good at it. However, it has recently DAWn'd on me (great pun) that w/ how a lot of recording is done these days (recording super dry signal and applying effects later) that I can definitely at minimum record good dry signals for my bands record & send them to the producer. So I grabbed an Apollo interface and threw Reaper on a computer and made myself an electric guitar -specializing DAW. Right now using AmpitubeCS for my guitar sounds. Yesterday was the first day I was able to get it all connected and signal through, and even with my scant knowledge I was able to get pretty decent tones out of it, and it's fun!

  7. Actuall you don't really have the right to "demand" provide proof for what they believe. You can ask, they can decline or share their story like tigerholic did. Then you can move on without belittling them or making them feel stupid for thinking what they do. LIfe is not a court of law. You do not have a "right" to evidence or proof unless they are asking you to do something or are invading your freedom somehow. Nobody here is doing that. you are sort of contradicing yourself by saying people have a right to believe anything they want yet also saying you "demand" evidence and they shouldn't 'abrogate your right to evidence'. Nobody is asking you to change your beliefs or what you do.

  8. Right. I expect him to be in a rotation at some point but they don't "need" to force him in there. Meaning if Levi is the #3 tackle because he's more advanced/ football ready than Martin... they can afford to wait on him until he's ready to join in the rotation. I don't know when that will be. I'm just saying they don't need to rush him or force him in there if he's not ready yet. Plus... I think Reader is going to "SCHOOL!!!" him over the next year...

  9. On that note: If I'm looking at 1st round talent... the next thing I am considering is "but are these Holmes/Campbell players"?) If I look at 1st round players... I'm looking at it from the perspective of, are these guys even on the Lions draft board, and finding multiple reasons to exclude guys, using a Holmes/ Dan Campbell reason. IE: 1) "We are just not going to use a 1st round pick on a QB". So, ixne QB's. 2) "We see no need to move up to a top 10 pick, the cost is too great." So, not only QB's, but also top 10 WR's and OT's. 3) "If a CB won't tackle in run support, we don't like them." So, Wiggins and Kool-Aid are OFF the Lions draft board, entirely, because they are both ****ty tacklers. It doesn't matter if either or both are available at our pick, and they are the "consensus" BPA players... they are NOT on the Lions draft board because they are not LIONS type of players. So again, toss "BPA" out the door because it's meaningless, in a Lions context. 4) "We want players who love the game, play the game for their teammates, and have 'True Grit'. And who dominate their man/ position. And have the leadership qualities that "drive" their teams to wins." That strips down "1st round talents" to only a few players that (because I'm just guessing here...) could fit on the Lions draft board... and I'm not working with all the info that they have available... I'm just taking a guess based on the scouting reports. Also, I don't agree that "BPA" basically rules all. If a QB or TE or RB is the "so-called" BPA pick, they aren't selecting those guys when making the Super Bowl is paramount. What that means (to me), is that if they like a player more than those 3 positions, but would need to trade up to get him, or they felt confidant they could trade down and STILL get their guy... that they would rather maneuver and get the guy that helps them win games rather than just stay at their draft spot and select JJ McCarthy just because "well, he was the BPA". They're just NOT going to do that. They will maneuver up or down to get a player they want, rather than simply draft a "BPA" player because there just simply is no other choice. Wrong. There's always a choice: Maneuver and get the guy you want. That being said: Top 10-11 guys I think are on the LIONS Draft Board: 1) Edge - Jared Verse 2) CB - Quinyon Mitchell 3) OG/OT - Taliese Fuaga 4) OG/C - Jackson Powers-Johnson 5) WR - Adonai Mitchell 6) WR - Brian Thomas 7) EDGE - Chop Robinson 8 ) OG/OT - Troy Fautanu 9) CB - Terrion Arnold 10) OG/C - Zach Frazier 11) CB/S - Cooper DeJean I think only a couple of those players will fall to the Lions' spot. I'm going to guess that Holmes might be "tempted" to move up for one of "his" (or DC's) "guys". The next guys that DC/ Holmes would be interested in, IMO, would all seem to be "2nd-round grade" guys.

  10. But this... Is just waaay too simplistic IMO. IE: You cannot just go to Kiper's top 100 and say "BUT WAIT! That guy is not BPA!" I'm not even saying that to be difficult... we just ALL know that BPA to anyone else is NOT BPA to Holmes/ Campbell. They have different criteria than anyone else. And also... to MC's point: Holmes specifically stated that they maneuvered to get their guys (Gibbs, Campbell, LaPorta, Branch, Hooker, Martin AND Sorsdal) NOT because of "BPA", but because he and Dan wanted THESE guys to help the team make a run to the Playoffs. Holmes straight up said: "We drafted these specific guys at these positions to help us get to the playoffs." You can't say "BPA" with these guys. You have to say "Best Fit for the Lions". IMO.

  11. I didn't say "don't see time". I said "in a meaningful way". Meaning, I would expect him to be a part of a rotation... but with limited snaps until Reader hands those snaps over (through injuries, or Readers' slow-down/ ineffectiveness, or Martin really catches on/ catches fire.) Any of which could happen. But, again... the team does not have to "push" or "rely" on Martin, they can rely on Reader. When Martin takes off and outplays Reader... he can take over for him. Whether that's at the end of 2025 or middle of 2026... I couldn't say. Nor is it my place. I'll leave that up to DC...

  12. If they were on opposite sides of the case I can see how that would raise questions of a possible fix. And if this were a DA and, say, a police evidence specialist who could potentially use their expertise to surreptitiously adulterate evidence to unfairly bolster the DA's case, same thing. But these are two lawyers on the same team, who presumably have no more way to corruptly manipulate the outcome of the case than any other two lawyers on any other prosecutorial team. So why does it matter that they're ****ing, or even that she supported him financially in any way? How specifically is this prejudicial against Trump's case?

  17. I think this is more the case early in a rebuild and less the case as you go on. In 2021, name the position and we could use an upgrade. Now though, drafting a OT who can't play OG doesn't make much sense. Neither would drafting a QB, TE, or RB. At least not early. I think past the 3rd round or so, yeah, just draft the best player on your board and call them depth. But before that, when your rebuild is where we now are and you have just a few holes to plug, you shouldn't get cute and draft a great backup LB when a starting CB or Edge rusher could be the difference between the NFCCG and the Super Bowl.

  18. I can understand that the system has to sanction poor behavior in a prosecutor and the way to do that is to hammer their cases, but this a case where any line to fairness for the defendant is purely incidental. If anything, the DA making a sub optimal hire out of personnel preference is an advantage to the defense because a non-deserving hire by definition is likely be less competent. There is nothing in that for the defense to argue makes their defense more difficult.

  19. Maybe the Avila administration was able to see his innate talent and then the Harris administration knew how to take that talent and transform it. Then again, maybe he' s not that good and won't succeed in the majors. But that would be Avila's fault. 😃

  20. Turning The Corner.... With Cody Stavenhagen from the Athletic and his friemd.... probably my favorite overall the co-host can be annoying Days of Roar ... with Evan Petzold from the Free Press and Mark Garosh ( who can be a lot full of himself and is a former Moton sports poster) Motorcity metrics.... 25. it's an administrative proceeding designed to cover the administration's ass when they fire him. "well, we had a consultant group come in and review and they told us that things were amiss!" its a weak administrator's way of building a case to fire someone. warde cant make a decision on his own. they have more than enough evidence to fire him for cause.

  26. i'm not outraged by any of it! i wish michigan would have outbid them! and osu already self-reported violations about tampering with recruits (which doesnt bother me at all either) so they were making offers before the portal period even opened. again, i dont care. my comment was more directed to osu not taking michigan's recent ascendency laying down. they spent a lot of money on this team, from chip kelly to bringing back a whole bunch of players who were very draftable. that costs money. osu media saying osu "finished second" for recruits is like michigan media saying michigan was in on recruits but they couldnt get into school, sometimes its true but its usually just an excuse to make us feel better that we didnt get a kid and cover for the coaching staff. so even if a caleb downs said "osu finished second", he likely had other suitors and osu had to fend them off with some cash. and that's perfectly legal and i'm fine with it.

  27. I'm not going to speak for anyone else but for me it's not outrage, it's just frustration for the M fan that college revenue sports are moving into a future that most people at Michigan believe is one that is more favorable to OSU culturally and institutionally. And I'm not saying that in a pejorative way. I've done academic work over the years with OSU folks and worked with lots of students that have gone back and forth between the two places. Sport is all faux rivalry. OSU is a great institution, but it is a different one from Ann Arbor, different history, different alumni cohort and more generally, Michigan is not Ohio when it comes to football at all levels (other than the NFL - for now - 😉)

  28. Henning with some Garko praise this morning with some nice tidbits: Credit goes to Al Avila, the previous Tigers general manager, for recognizing the Tigers were a few eons behind too many other MLB teams when it came to grooming players. Avila knew science and technology, biomechanics, nutrition, strength and conditioning — even psychology — had become indispensable as baseball’s best clubs worked to gain an edge on the competition. Credit also Chris Ilitch for approving many millions of dollars in allowing Avila to take those first steps in bringing the Tigers into baseball’s 21st century. Avila hired Garko. Now, Garko is part of a new front-office group that finds in overall chief, Scott Harris, an even more advanced focus on development, with new staffers reinforcing creeds and incorporating baseball’s latest avant-garde thinking.

  29. STANDING OVATION TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY PROSECUTORS AND TO THE JURY. The kid was begging for help and they did nothing. If they had even tried ANYTHING to help him, neither would be facing prison time right now. 2 fewer votes for Trump, too. It's a win-win.

  32. latu was injured in 2020 and medically retired for two years. he had neck fusion surgery. ymmv, your doctor's mileage may vary. but that's way too risky for me. maurice hearst fell to round 5 because of a heart murmur. if latu is there in round 5, i say we take him.

  33. i agree. however, everyone said the same thing about the nfc west last year too. the nfl is so random for 80% of the league. 10% sucks. 10% is great and everyone else can beat everyone else on any sunday, just depends on luck, refs, and injuries.

  34. Latu retired from college football once already because of injury, i wouldnt take him at 29 much less trade up for him.

  35. I wouldn't call him "last" as much as I would call for the need to stay healthy. IE: If he's the 3rd best DT in training camp then he's the #3 DT in the regular season as well, as long as he can remain healthy and productive. And Martin is #4 and has to both learn more and wait his turn. But it's the NFL and injuries happen so I wouldn't write anything in stone. What depth # would we have given Tyson Alualu and Quinton Bohanna? As they each played a few games in 2023. I think I would look at Levi more at the end of the season with the question "what was he able to bring to the Lions in 2024?" Just my 2 cents...

  39. Yeah, Rodman had it. Supposedly it is one of the reasons his draft stock fell. Lucky us. Dominique Wilkins had asthma. Also, Jerome Bettis, Emmitt Smith, Amy Van Dyke, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Juwan Howard all had it. Seems like I remember Reggie Jackson having it while he was here. Maybe not.

  42. Really enjoy the writing and the weird dream type sequences in Goliath. Another one we just got back into...we started season 4, but then something came up and now are back at it, only a couple episodes left. I love how Billys character just negotiates billion dollar deals in seconds with pretty much no prep work. This last season is a nice reminder of how things are in RL, but people just prefer not to accept it.

  43. The problem is one hired the other specifically for this case. I mean a rookie out of law school would be to say a sexual relationship by a prosecuting attorney would be able to get that case thrown out.
