It's one of my favorite books, too. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 - “For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.”3 points

That wraps up another year of my dumb predictions. Come back in October so we can see how wrong I am.2 points

For what it's worth, I had Flores in the Erie rotation all spring in my projections for the same reason Mark thinks Madden is there now. I don't have any reason to doubt it, but I would caution (in this world of player development advances at a moment's notice) against some post-hoc victory lap if Madden finds a pitch mix suitable for starting.1 point

Tigers 87 wins and Riley Greene doesn’t get injured. I’m not sure which one is bolder.1 point

No, they have not. My assessment is based on years of scouting players, including many like Madden, and speaking with industry professionals that have spent plenty of time watching Madden and formulating their own opinion. It's also based on years of talking with teams about their players, assignment decisions, and how they develop players. The overwhelming consensus in Madden's case? He's a reliever at the highest level. Sure, you can label it speculation, but it's a helluva lot more informed speculation than what you're tossing around.1 point

I usually admire the Steelers organization, but Patterson is 33. This is a case of trying to be the smartest guy in the room. They'd probably be better off putting Fields back there.1 point

You are routinely conflating "leftists" with being 100% death-to-Israel, or at least as not being as performatively pro-Israel as you are being. I assume you regard me as a "leftist", seeing how that's a pejorative to you. Anyhow, bad analogy. MAGA is not nobody. MAGA is Donald Trump and tens of millions of followers, many of whom are well-known to be armed to the teeth and itching for a fight. I have no idea who the **** these people in the prior page are, but when I start seeing them and others like them perpetrate murder in the name of Free Palenstine—or whatever it's called—here on American soil, then I will consider lighting my own hair on fire in solidarity with yours.1 point

They're children. Maybe a third of them are serious about the issue itself, maybe; another third are doing it so they can get laid by someone else in the group; and the remaining third will end up voting for Barron Trump in 2052.1 point

The talk on Madden is there was a roster crunch in Toledo. I don't see a team with Bryan Sammons having a roster crunch.1 point

Assuming all goes well I would assume Lakeland to WM mid season and Erie next year.1 point

Toledo starts Friday. The other levels start a week later. We won't know them until next week. Toledo also has 27 of 28 spots listed. Either a spot for Diaz is spoken for or there may be a waiver claim/trade coming.1 point

I've been both encouraged and disappointed with Veleno's season. It looks like he's taken some steps and makes some good plays and shows some creativity. Then he has games like last night where he's mostly invisible except when running around in his own zone or giving the puck away. Overall it has been a let down I think, he's faded as the season went on and they have had to use Czarnik as the fourth line center and stick him on the wing. Hopefully he's able to take a few more steps forward to be more consistent as a NHL player. Even though I think Petry becomes a bit of a whipping boy, I still am ready for him to go. I am guessing a lot of it stems from his age and not being able to make plays quick enough that he's used to making, but he really loves putting himself out of position at the weirdest times. He makes some baffling challenges, it is probably a net "positive" in that it works more often than not to challenge puck carriers like he does, but when it doesn't work he's way out of position at the worst times so...not great. Theoretically he should be a great partner for Edvinsson right now who seems to have brain farts in his own zone from time to time (guessing this is why Ed has been in GR to figure it out) but something happens and Petry is in the corner or something random doing god knows what.1 point

No they haven’t. A small segment of “leftists” have, but as G2 points out assigning allegiance is complicated. Most people on all sides of the issue recognize that Hamas is terrible. Some of those also think Israel represses Palestinians and don’t like US tax dollars supplying bombs dropped on Gaza. It is possible to understand the problem Israel faces and also hope they can limit civilian casualties in fighting Hamas. There’s no easy answer and calling people names or assigning viewpoints to vaguely defined groups doesn’t do anything to fix problems. Sure, there are extremists that do defend Hamas, want to kill Biden, or other horrible things. But they are relatively few, hardly representative of the left.1 point

I remember thinking before the season the over 29 wins bet was easy money. Good thing I’m too inpatient to bet futures.1 point

I love that the season is starting, and especially this season, when there is so much more hope for the sustainable future of this franchise than at any other time in my lifetime. I don't love that the season is starting on a Thursday. I believe baseball season should start on a Monday and end on a Sunday. That Monday should be a practical national holiday. They can make it happen by adding three off days to the season, which the players should like and the fans wouldn't mind so much. This year, they could have started it on April 1, and ended it on October 6. I love least of all that Opening Day is on Sweet Sixteen Thursday, and that the sports world will be focused on basketball instead of baseball. Again, Opening Day should be basically a national holiday, but at the very least, baseball should have the whole day to itself. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, Manfred.1 point

as a practical matter, the one thing that could be done to at least help insure against this particular kind of accident would be to require that a tug (or two?) stay on escort with any ship above a certain tonnage until it clears the last harbor bridge. The operators would scream about the expense, but if you are going to run huge ships with single point of failure engines the only ultimate safety is to have another engine with relevant power out there with them.1 point

What makes you think it was the stats, because that's all you see as a fan? Maybe it was his stuff, command, poise, etc. Maybe his ability fit the role they wanted to fill better than the competition. Stats may reflect that, sure, but they also may not.1 point

I deeply regret what I said earlier today. I consider myself a man of faith. And here's a line drive to the gap, two runs score, a double for Castellanos. 2-0 Reds.1 point
