  5. I really detest the in game promotion of the bets. Not just a commercial but in the middle of the action one of the on air staff has to tell us how the players are doing relative to a promoted bet. It makes me angry.

  7. We're going after adults who don't secure their guns..........or actually supply them to their kids. I think this is wonderful. Now, lets start going after people who provide guns to people who are not allowed to legally own them. Like the MSU killer. Where did he get the gun? He wasn't supposed to have it. Where did he get it? Did he steal it? Buy it at a pawn shop? Buy it on the street? Don't know, but the person who sold or gave it to him needed to be prosecuted. Just because that piece of **** is dead doesn't mean the investigation should end.

  9. What is going on to make this the flashpoint issue to garner this level of protest on American college campuses? I understand there are humanitarian concerns but why is this cause the one that has incited the far left? They are protesting at levels that we didn’t come close to seeing on campus for more pressing issues for liberal Americans. Where was this support for Ukraine against Putin? Where was this support to defend Roe? Where is this type of protest against guns and school shootings? I’m boggled at the reason that’s causing American students to pick a known terror organization in Hamas to be the issue they have chosen to hang their hat at this level. It just doesn’t make much sense.

  14. This is the first time I am absolutely furious. Enough Meadows Enough Torkelson They both need to be in Toledo. They're useless right now. And we get to see it end with Torkelson and Keith today.............wonderful And why did Canha sit today.........he couldn't DH? He's one of their hottest hitters. A team that can't hit a beach ball, you need to play your best hitters regardless. Time to start considering moves with players and hitting coaches. Enough. Dude K's 14 and they're gonna lose

  19. I read up a bit on him when Harris signed him. I was very happy with the signing. His story is interesting. He fell out of favor with a lot of the Cardinals fan base as he was apparently outspoken in favor of the BLM movement during the height of the national unrest. I still think he’s got upside from here. Glad he’s a Tiger. His hero is Bob Gibson. Not a bad choice.

  23. What’s the Tigers’ record number of strikeouts in a game? Edit: as of 2023, it was Anibal Sanchez with 17. He did it in 8 innings. Broke Lolich’s record of 16.

  30. What I understood was that incarcerating him now stops the trial until they get through some appeal. Marchan wants this decided soonest. If Judge Marchan is going to levy a harsher penalty they will have to wait until Trump actually has a juror murdered.

  31. Not sure how aware people here are of how much the national press has noticed Riley Greene, but here is yet another story I am seeing. he keeps this up and he will get MVP votes this year. https://theathletic.com/5445695/2024/04/30/mlb-hitters-hot-starts-barrel-rate-improvement/ Riley Greene, Detroit Tigers We’re focusing on batted ball quality here, but this is truly a breakout in all regards for the 23-year-old outfielder in Detroit. Consider that, so far this season, he has: • Reduced his whiff rate by a larger margin than all but 16 players in the bigs • Reduced his strikeout rate by 2.4 percentage points • Reduced his chase rate by a larger margin than all but 18 players in the bigs • Increased his walk rate three-fold (the biggest improvement in the bigs) • Reduced his ground-ball rate • Increased his fly-ball rate by a larger margin than all but five players in the bigs • Improved his range defensively Often across-the-board improvement like this is due to a player settling into his approach, and that seems like the case here. “It’s been a lot of nibbling to get me to chase,” he recently told the Detroit Free Press. “The more that I don’t chase, the more they’ll come back in the zone and hopefully try to challenge me.” Players generally see more pitches, chase less and lift the ball better as they age, but this is a more aggressive version of that natural improvement. This is a player coming into his own. He may not be stealing bags like he did last season, but Greene seems likely to be able to hit .250-plus with 25 homers this year, with the type of defense and base running that could make him an All-Star.

  33. The #'s that attended are even more convincing how much Detroit is a sports town and that pride is generated by our teams. It may be obvious...there is causal relationship (is that correct?) between the success of the Lions and the self esteem the city has, which can be a reason for less stupid acts. I imagine this has been studied somewhere by someone. Good for Detroit and the Lions. Don't underestimate what Campbell, Holmes and the players have done for not only the team but also the city. 👍

He was probably thinking about the Russian war crimes, such as the theft of Ukrainian children from their parents, the massacres in Bucha and the continuous attacks on Ukrainian civilians when he posted his jeering tweet. I hope he knows to be more diplomatic when dealing with Putin's regime next time.

  42. In memory of Brian Bluhm. 17 years ago on April 16, 2007- we lost a treasured friend and member who was killed at Virginia Tech. ”And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.” – Maya Angelou RIP, Brian.

  43. I've been avoiding this thread because, based on its placement in General and not Political, I figured this was a pro-betting thread, so I wanted to respect that. But since you guys have opened up the floodgates, I'll just say that here I believe that gambling addiction is going to become the nation's #1 health problem in the next five to ten years, yet another thing we can thank our estimable Supreme Court for. 😏 And now I will drop this point, unless people want to keep talking about it, after which I can then blame you. 😁 From a personal standpoint, the best thing that ever happened to me was the moment I tried penny-ante gambling when I was in grade school and started losing immediately. I also got cheated out of winning by a bigger kid in my class. The last straw was, I had lost my last penny in five-card poker during lunch, I saw it was an old one, like, 1917 or something, and I said let me keep it and I'll pay you tomorrow, because I liked old coins. And the bigger kid grabbed my hand and forced the penny out of it to take it away from me. That was basically the end of gambling for me. Ironically, I run both a college football bowl pool and a March Madness squares pool (coming up next week!), but I do those because I love the pool-managing part, not the gambling part. And, true to form, I have won exactly one money position in the 26 years of the bowl pool, and exactly one first-round square in the seven years of March Madness squares. Meanwhile, I see the same people in my pool winning every year over and over again. That is just beyond my understanding.
