Kelly Carpenter and Riley Greene are flourishing, too. Mark Canha was before his slump—I like his chances of recovering back to at least average, which I would find acceptable. Colt Keith and Carson Kelly have been on fire for the last two weeks. Andy Garcia has been great for the last 30 days. As much as people want to run Hinch and the hitting coaches out of town, the Tigers wRC+ for the last 30 days has been 97, just a hair below average, and better than Orioles, Braves, and the Guardians. Should the hitting coaches be fired for that? The Tigers’ main problem is that they’re not jacking bombs, and that’s probably less a coaching issue than a talent issue.2 points

Take a look at their roster. It's too many entitled travel team white college boys. Even the minorities look like white guys. 🙂2 points

Also Willy Adames, a well-rounded shortstop who very quietly (to us) has fashioned a 20-win career into the age 28 season. And don't get me going on Isaac Paredes, an unforced error at the very end.2 points

One thing we will see from the Biden presidency is that accomplishments mean nothing. Biden is the most accomplished president since at least Johnson and people act like picking Biden is the lesser of two evils.2 points

Trump just isn't fit to serve. I don't necessarily with everyone about Biden. But given the choice between the two, its a no brainer.2 points

Not so much as you might fear. There is very little chance these guys are reproducing.2 points

There are multiple teams in their division who are winning without spending big. But they make hard decisions and develop consistent everyday players. We have done neither. Harris has been gathering information for 20 months. He has to find a path and take it.2 points

When you accept mediocrity from Miggy and Baez it infects the whole roster.1 point

But people say Look how much a burger meal costs at McDonald's. That's the economy right there. That's it. It's stupid and simplistic, but we now live in a society where Scientists and people who read books are elitist snobs and Joe Bob from the internet knows more than your doctor. Mike Judge is a modern-day Nostradamus. He nailed it. It's exactly where this is all going, only a lot faster than he thought.1 point

I think I want to bring KCP home. Good defender. Shoots 40% from three so he is a good catch and shoot guy for Cade. Veteran presence in the locker room.1 point

100% And not just the pent up demand. The supply chains were not ready to go from 15% to 115% capacity when the pent up demand unleashed. That caused lots of logistical/ labor cost/ inflationary problems too. Not to mention, roughly 6 mill pre-Covid workers decided to retire post-Covid. Talk about putting pressure on labor costs. Good for workers' wages. Until the expected inflationary reaction to that, ate away at those wage gains... The short answer is: 100%1 point

Imagine knowing you were going to need to clean house since around January (or sooner) and doing nothing about it until after the season, when you then decide to start the process by trying to find a firm to go collect candidates for you. Then you release a presser that says you're going to "move fast" to hire a PoBo. Now it's the end of May, the draft combine has already happened, coaches have already been hired, and this new guy is going to walk in cold on June 15th or whenever you finally make the hire. Oh, and it'll be his job to assess the current staff. fire everyone for you because you didn't have the balls, and then start finding replacements all while managing a draft he just walked into, learning a new organization, and navigating free agency. Way to set the new guy up to fail from day 1. This organization is a joke and will be until they get a competent owner.1 point

Also wages. Just a reminder under Trump last time the rich got rich and the poor poorer.1 point

By my rough count he pictched about 70 innings for the TIgers org.... not sure they had a chance to mess him up unless it was the medical staff.1 point

this is sort of the classic misunderstanding of inflation - which is not the price level, but the rate of change in the price level. There is a perception that when inflation stops, prices should go back down. No - they just stay where they are but stop increasing. For the government to try and force prices back down would, in the opinion of almost every sane economist in history, drive an economy into series recession. The issue is that when prices start to fall, people stop spending money completely waiting for prices to be better tomorrow, and that can drive the economy into a deflationary death spiral. No one wants to risk that, so there is never an effort to 'reverse' the effects of an inflationary period once it ends. Japan lost yrs of economic growth when it got stuck in deflation.1 point

In hindsight, I wish they had kept both and not extended Cabrera. Win or lose as a team. I think most fans would have loved to have followed Verlander through his legendary career. As for Martinez, they basically just gave him away. His market may not have been good at the time because teams were not looking for that type of hitter, but he definitely had baseball value as a hitter.1 point

How much of 2022 inflation was just pent up and delayed by COVID... That is to say, if the world didn't grind to a halt in 2020, would there have been extreme inflation from the Trump policies that year? Food for thought...1 point

The Royals overachieving has a bunch of folks losing perspective. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Tigers and Royals ultimately finish within a game or two of each other.1 point

The Harris admin will get most of the draft picks "wrong" too. The hope is that they hit on 2 out of 10 instead of 1 out of 10.1 point

Just out of curiosity bow do you know the Tigers “didnt even try” for either of those players? How do you know contact wasnt made with an agent or a rep? who are these players the tigers should have signed? And how much would they cost? Who should they have trade for and who should we have traded? Would the other team have accepted that offer? Real life isn’t Madden.1 point

Speaking of spending money, I'm sure Prince Fielder would take another 9/214 to come back here.1 point

I would like to see them broom the entire hitting coaching staff in Detroit and start over. Sure the odds are high it is just the players, but after three years of seeing the same failed approaches at the plate, I'm ready to take the chance on changing it up.1 point

Out of what? Despite this week, they are still only 2 games out of the final playoff spot. Contending for the division looks unlikely, but there are still more than 100 games to play.1 point

Kiley Mcdaniel of ESPN put out his updated top 50 today and he has Jobe 7th, Clark 21st and McGonogle 50th. Jung is in the "just missed" category along with about 20 other guys.1 point
