Harris's speech was brilliant. I really was not expecting it to be so good. I got nervous the first minute or two because she sounded a little flakey, but after that she took off. She showed strength and normalcy, there was no sign of any radicalism and she hit all the right points. She nailed it. You know I don't like politics the way most of you do. I am generally skeptical even of the Democrats, but I've heard some great speeches the last few nights. I feel a lot better now than I did a few weeks ago.

I think they pick up the option. Unnecessarily fighting (I know he hasn't "proven his worth" for that option to be picked up...) over that money I think engenders bad blood and I just don't see that small amount worth it to antagonize not just Mize... but the rest of the guys who will see it happening. To the latter part of her point - Kamala is able to get away with it in part because even though Biden has served as President for the last 3.5 years, this era (from Summer 2015 to now) has been singularly defined by one individual - Donald J. Trump. Like, when historians look back at this era (hopefully ending this year), he's going to be the one person we all remember (not Biden or HRC or Bernie Sanders or whoever). So of course she's the change candidate.... for people who want this era to end (and there are a lot of them - Trump is still not a popular figure), she's the person left in the race who can make that happen. Certainly in a way Biden never could. It's so obvious, yet these commentators who act confused that a sitting VP can make a "change" argument always seem to want to avoid it.

One thing that is so striking about where we are, eight years into Trump era, is how much the GOP has ceded patriotism to the Democrats. The politics are more on the center left, but rhetoric and imagery of this convention could have easily been seen in a different era at a GOP Convention. Of course, the GOP will go through the motions, throw around terms like "socialism" and even "communism", but it's never looked so much like a non-sequitur than it does now.

I was less than 10 years old during Vietnam, and I would like to think that as much as I would have been anti-war (if I was old enough), that I never would have spit at or shouted at or thrown anything at a returning soldier, but I think I probably would have gone along with the crowd on that. That was disgusting. Those guys didn't want to be there and they got pulled or lied into fighting an unwinnable war to save face. It was never on them. The **** they saw and had to do and then to come home and be treated like that - shameful bout of extremism. Extremism is almost never good. Should have spit on and shouted at our leaders on that one, but not the soldiers. Extremism is why I refuse to vote for Tlaib (who I agree with on almost everything). I just can't get past it with her now.

I wasn't old enough to know it at the time but the Yes song "yours is no disgrace" was about the guys fighting in Vietnam. It impresses me that they did that.

I don’t understand why so many people fail to grasp the idea of a sunk cost. Baez should not be on this team next year. Even eating his salary, the payroll is low. They definitely should be signing one impact bat from Adames, Kim, Alonso, Bellinger, etc. And with holes at 1B and SS and some positional flex with guys like Vierling they won’t be blocking anyone if they do sign a FA.
