Speaking only for myself, the ickiest part of a baseball broadcaster is when they go over the Fanduel in-game betting lines.5 points

I'm just amazed that, of this were literally any other campaign (either party), it would be a massive scandal that would result in heads rolling. But since it's Trump, it's treated like just another Tuesday. These are choices that are being made by the media... Just because people have floor-level expectations for him as a candidate doesn't mean stories like this don't deserve more coverage or scrutiny2 points

I didn't read it yet but there's an article going around by Will Bunch calling Harris the first post media presidential candidate. She's turned her back on legacy media that's focused on clickbait and both sidesing. And it appears to be driving them mad.2 points

Growing up rain delays meant WDIV would show the 1968 World Series highlights film. Sometimes the rain would stop too early so they'd cut the film off during the Game 5 part and switch back to live action. That was always a downer.1 point

I think it's at least 50-50 he shows up to camp in February. Somewhat less than 50-50 he breaks north with us.1 point

I can't remember where I saw this reference today but it was referring to the 1800 Presidental election where Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr tied on electors. There was a reference to a letter from Alexander Hamilton to Harrison Grey Otis who was a member of the House at the time (representing Massachusetts). Very appropriate for today1 point

The back of that baseball card tells me that he was a better hitter than I remember. He was a good third baseman and all around player, in an era when Brooks Robinson set the standard of excellence at a pretty high level.1 point

could be the IL date on his MLB transaction page missed a back date. That's what I was going by. EDIT: BR says his last appearance was 6/30, so he could have been backdated to July 1 and there is your two days.1 point

I said that because I am always amused by how multiple posters, not just you, frequently name only ex-Tigers as the guys we should be trading for or signing. There are literally dozens of left-handed relievers who have a better FIP than Drew Smyly—in fact, he’s 43rd of 49, one slot worse than, of all people, Joey Wentz—yet people say they want us to trade for or sign Smyly because why? Well, near as I can figure, it’s because he’s top of mind. We remember him. He’s a Devil We Know. While we’re at it, why not reacquire Tyler Alexander? He’s 41st in FIP, better than both Wentz and Smyly, and I would bet that the Rays wouldn’t even ask for Max Clark in return. 😁1 point

Yeesh. I was looking to buy a home in Macomb, I hope I don't run into any of the people you know, they sound terrible. I'll stick on the Ewsieg side of town. Thank you very much.1 point

We had to put one of our cats down a few months ago and my wife, who has generally complained about the cats, wanted to get another cat. I was torn. I did but I didn’t. I finally relented. So we brought home a black cat with Batman ears. My wife, in a surprise move, wanted her brother as well. So now else have two 3-month-old panthers in addition to our less-than-pleased calico.1 point

Just keep winning and let's see what happens. Boston is in town for 3 this weekend. The Tigers are currently 1.5 behind them. The Red Sox are the only non wild card team ahead of the Tigers. Swap spots, maybe get the 5.5 down to 4.0. The Tigers have 3 more games with the Royals and 6 more games with the Orioles in September.1 point

I was still home by midnight. Back in the old days when I would go with a certain friend all the time, that wasn't unusual. The 7 start time, a 3+ hour game, driving him home first... it wasn't so bad last night. I was the only one sitting in the box seats of sections 213-217. I went downstairs to get another beer and was standing there watching and an usher told me to go on down there if I wanted as long as I am not obnoxious. So I did. Almost got a ball in the ninth but I had my beer in my left hand so I couldn't turn around fast enough as it bounced off the facade. I grabbed it with my left hand but another guy had a better angle.1 point

Yeah. I mean, at least Javy (until now) actually PLAYS and $24 million a year is a lot easier to swallow than $38 million - and at least Javy doesn't say stuff like "baseball has never been a top priority for me"1 point

Every guy in the lineup but Vierling and Sweeney was an Avila guy. Of course most didn't start to develop until the new regime though.1 point

I was rooting for a triple collision there because I’m a bad person. I’m sure one of them would drop the ball but no go.1 point

If Cannon is over ruled or removed from the case I think if anything that boosts the argument that Trump and his appointments are outside the law.1 point

Thanks for your reminiscence of candlestick. For me, Don was a role player. I don’t remember him doing much that caught my attention the way Freehan and Northrop and Kaline and Willie Horton did. Ernie used to have players on at the end of the game and he always gave them a pair of Florsheim shoes. I’m not sure that Don had many pair. But he was a solid part of the team so he owns a part of my heart.1 point
