I hate the Royals almost as much as the Twins. The Tigers had their run from 2006-2014, throw in 2016 if you like. Meanwhile the Royals suck because they're the Royals. Then they have 3 winning seasons and from that get a loss in 7 games in the WS, then win it the next year. **** that. It's like you are wooing this girl for a long time with dates and romantic evenings, then some greaser comes along, takes her to the park, they do it, then he goes to jail for burglary, and you are left behind. They've won 2 WS since the Tigers last won one. The Royals. They're only reason to exist is George Brett memories.4 points

Didn't AOC beat a long time Democratic congressman in a primary election specifically by making class consciousness a big part of her messaging and campaigning? Republicans have made economics a cultural issue. Democrats can too. We can have both abortion and economics as cultural wars to fight on one day, way down the line. I see nothing wrong with demagoguing rich people and big business. After all, that just factually is the reason for much of people's plight and misery. When your job doesn't pay you a living wage and you have to get a second one. When your employer can fire you at will, with little to no protections for the average worker. When your CEO makes 300-400x what their average worker at your company is making, that's a huge problem. When big businesses are reporting record profits and your paying more at the grocery store, more for a car, more for a house, more on rent. All those are economic issues on their face, but can be turned into cultural issues through class consciousness. Republicans have been masterful making immigration and the economics around immigration both an economic and cultural issue. Democrats should be attacking big business, CEOs, and the wealthy with as much vigor as Trump and Republicans have attacked immigrants over the last 15-20 years.3 points

Even that one winning season was to no small degree on the backs of the historically bad 2003 Tigers -- KC went 14-5 against the Tigers in 2003.2 points

Was listening to Royals broadcast and KC has clinched the TB against us no matter what happens tomorrow. Minnesota has clinched the TB against KC. We have clinched the TB against Seattle in the event that comes Into play.2 points

I read an article by a KC writer earlier this year. The gist: Witt is the first Royal to post an OPS+ above 140 since the George Brett era. That is more than 3 decades. Astounding.1 point

I hate Cleveland fans, if that makes sense, because of the mid 90's when they would flood Tiger Stadium. But the organization? I don't harbor much ill will toward them. They run it well. I sympathize with the White Sox a little bit because I hate the Cubs and the whole frat boy thing they embody. "What's the score dude?" is the stereotype of a Cubs fan. I think if I were from Chicago I'd have been a Sox fan. To be a Sox fan means you are probably a baseball fan, not just a bandwagoner. The Twins? 1987 and 2009... The Royals? As I said.... if htey hadn't won the WS in 2015 I'd not care about them.1 point

I was shocked when I looked it up. 3 winning seasons in 20 years. Further, from 1995-2023, outside of their run in 2013-2015, they had one winning season, 83 wins in 2003. That's 29 years. 7 100+ loss seasons.1 point

Still won't work. The bureaucracy to support them is unwieldy, the impossibility of being surgical enough is daunting. Pricing in the real world must stay dynamic because real supply and demand changes happen all the time for valid reasons. Let's think about what has changed here and then work back. Why is price gouging a growing issue now after 250 years of the republic? The increase in corporate pricing power we are experiencing in the US is due almost completely to the growth of market monopoly power. So don't attack the symptom, attack the cause. The way to go is to control businesses' pricing power. The government can help keep prices down in an economy and do it effectively but not by direct controls. You do it setting the playing field - insuring competition via tax and M&A law/rules, subsidizing infrastructure, subsidizing new business formation. For commodities the Gov can maintain supply reserves like they do for oil that can moderate market shocks. Even direct investment subsidies are better than attempts at direct price control. And I will beat the dead horse again - why is the business playing field in the US more distorted than ever? - because we have a politics distorted by business money - Citizen's United. So along that line, what makes anyone believe that a government already bought and paid for by corporations is actually going to do any effective price regulation even if it somehow could come with a workable system to do it? Without political reform first, it would become the biggest rent seek in history.1 point

I know we all want him to come up yesterday and start throwing perfect games already, but Jackson Jobe is not coming to Detroit this year. He is the system's top pitching prospect, so we are going to baby his development. The cost of his failing at the big league level would be too high, so we are not going to throw him immediately to the wolves and see if he can fight his way out. That's not what you do to #1 pitching prospects. That's what you do to the Keider Monteros and Ty Maddens of your system, the guys for whom it would be a total bonus if they can come and and shove in the bigs, and if they fail, it's far less of a problem.1 point

A friend of mine told me that her son, who is very smart (goes to Carnegie Mellon and very well aware of his privilege), asked her "Mom, if you put your shoes in someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, what issues do you think they are basing their vote on?" It's not about who should they vote for, or who has their best interests in mind. I think we all know that. But put yourself in their shows, living their life. They're not on twitter all day. Trump's rhetoric appeals to them and they don't know it's BS. They don't care about abortion rights. Their heatlh insurance probably sucks. Kamala has to do a good job appealing to those people. We can mock about only caring about the price of milk or eggs but to a lot of people that's the most important issue. Perception is reality when it comes to politics.1 point

Haitians make a nifty bogeyman for southerners in particular not only because they’re blacker than most nationalities, but also because Haiti had the successful slave revolt while Alabamans were still allowed to own black people, and they are super sore and maybe even still nervous about that.1 point

I think this is overly simplistic, but there is probably something to it. Zeitler is far better than Kayode Awosike, but when the latter had to sub in for Jonah last year, the offense was fine. So it’s not a missing Jonah Jackson problem. That said, Zeitler missed a lot of camp with an injury. I think the trio of Zeitler-Ragnow-Glasgow haven’t developed the trust and rapport you want or need with your interior offensive line, particularly in pass blocking. I’m sure it will get better, the group is too talented to not.1 point

The Bryce Young benching See, I think it was the Panthers who screwed up, not Young. You took a kid who was totally green and put him on a team with NO weapons and a terrible line. How is he going to succeed This rush to put rookies in at QB right away is foolish. They usually get drafted by awful teams. Look how good Sam Darnold looks with an actual decent team around him. I don't think Zack Wilson was that bad either, but they threw him to the wolves. C.J. Stroud is the exception for rookie QBs, but Stroud had a good team around him. I think Caleb Williams has an okay team around him, but he shouldn't be starting right away. I think the Panthers broke this kid.1 point

I’m calling it now: Skubal is sick of struggling with the Royals and is going to go into his start this series and pitch a shutout with double digit Ks while boastfully screaming after each one. Meanwhile we only win 1-0 off of a McKinstry double and advance to third on a throwing error and a Jake Rogers RBI ground out out to second.1 point
