  1. I can’t lecture anyone who faces this slam dunk series with some trepidation. Because nothing is for certain. But we have earned the right to be hopeful. It’s even an obligation. This team is its own fierce beast. It is not haunted by the spirit of previous clubs which have either charmed or dismayed us. All of that is in our heads, and none of that is in their’s. They live in an eternal present of their own making, with its own pulse, tempos, and potential that exceeds anything of our own manufacture, but which does in some mysterious fashion, feed upon our enthusiasm. They are an assemblage of new players led by a forward-looking staff and upper-management which daily creates and re-creates its own internal reality, its own energies of propulsion. They are a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. They are not obligated to carry or endure the burdens of our past. If that were the case, this recent miracle would never have occurred. Because it is no “miracle.” It has been done on purpose. It is completely intentional. Our memories of previous failures do not pierce the bubble in which these 26 young men and their leaders thrive. But they do in some mysterious manner feed off our hope. They have surprised and delighted us for the last 40+ games and we are honored to savor the dignity of their unique momentum wherever it takes us. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

  2. Not sure. Just know it’s Trey Sweeney with the Tigers and Sydney Sweeney with the twins.

  3. This is the biggest game in Comerica Park since the 2013 ALCS. This is a team with zero ****s to give. They dont care if they lost yesterday or if they won yesterday or last week or who they are playing or what pitcher they are facing or when their last home run was or whether they were in Toledo this year I've spent a few thousand dollars a year on the Tigers. I've done that since I was 23 years old and in college. During the lean years when I had to make choices. Some years I questioned if I was being a fool. But I stuck with it not because I think I'm special but because I love being at the stadium during a random mid week summer night and unless I buy the tickets then something else will come up and I won't go. I go with family, friends, or by myself (Did that 3 times this year and it's a great experience). I thought of that this week when that part of the season is already over for me. It reminds me of being a kid. When I am at the games I have no problems to figure out. It's just joy. But now the stadium wil be packed. Tonight's game is another reminder of why I do it because I'll be with people I've sat near for 15 years at least. We've sat through cold April games and sweltering August games when the stadium was near empty. The last time we were there we saw Montero put down 27 batters and then the team nearly pitch a perfect game. Playoff talk was polite but under our breath was "Are you kidding.... come on?".

  4. I will be in attendance with the parents, so yes they might as well do that. I bought the tickets early this week hoping it would work out to be the potential clincher. Now that it is, the tickets are 4-5 times as much. Good job me!

  6. people are looking at this wrong. yes it's unseemly for a "billionaire" former POTUS to be hawking all this crap. but the real issue is money laundering. $10M seems to be the going price for a bribe for Trump if Egypt report is correct. so pick any oligarch in the world; he "buys" 100 watches at 100K - that's $10M. he does not even need the watches to be delivered. if they are, fine, throw them in the trash. Trump is accepting payment in bitcoin which is key to evading taxes, sanctions and audit trail

  7. This kind of logic is ignorant. Yes, the Twins going 3-7 helped the Tigers. Yes the Royals losing 7 in a row recently helped the Tigers. But the Tigers have gone 9-1. And on the flip side, the Tigers going 3-7 helped the Twins and the Royals. The Tigers going 3-9 in early August helped the Twins and Royals. Why don't people discredit them for only getting a lead at another team's expense? Why is it the team charging at the end get dinged because someone else is losing? I know it's news to talk radio knobs that baseball goes for 162 games. Teams go to the playoffs because other teams lose. That's how sports works. It doesn't matter when they lose.

  8. This has been a surprising and historical run that none of us who post here saw coming. If you say you did, you are lying. After all these years of mediocrity, this end of the season has been astonishing. Never underestimate hungry Tigers.................

  12. Hey Everybody, Not sure who remembers me, I was a regular on MotownSports and joined way back in like 2003. I remember the countless inside jokes over the years, SlickNickShady's 'hat on bed' pictures, Library Monkey/Titus Tigers famous animated gifs in the game threads. And so many more memories of the old days. I really miss all the sabremetric discussion. There were some really brilliant math-oriented people who used to post here. Hope there is still a lot of that. I remember most of the old posters, Yoda, Biff, Yooper, Chasf, Oblong, Tiger337, etc. I hope many of the old crowd is still around. Unfortunately, life just got in the way and I had to step away for a long time, but seeing this run the Tigers are making inspired me to make my return. Anyway, sorry for the useless thread, it will be the only one of it's type that I create, I just wanted to say I missed you all and am happy to be back.

  15. For me, there’s something about the synergy of this team, where every player is utilized to their maximum ability, which exceeds the historic exploits of this year‘s great stars. It’s like the Tigers have discovered a baseball version cold fusion that actually works.

  18. I’m not worried about the White Sox. That’s the Tiger’s job. I know that Hinch will not allow these guys to be overconfident. Each game will be planned for and played as if the future of all human history hinged upon it. Nothing is for certain and this team will not take anything for granted or expect it to be given to them.

  21. Ah, dude, you should’of told me to wave for the picture. I’m the one in the Tiger hat. On a whim, I took my dad to the game. We hadn’t been there since 2019. He doesn’t exactly move around quite as spryly as he used to could do, so we went early to get close parking. Literally walked in shortly after the gates opened. Sat in our seats and just took in the sights and sounds and smells of the ball yard. Never really fretted anything about the game except for Alexander’s performance. The deficit really didn’t bother me. Well, actually the scoreboard bothers me because it cuts out to too many shots of fans during the game eliminating the information (lineups and stuff like that). I don’t know about you, but it seemed to me like there were quite a number of kids at the game. Some looked like school/youth groups, but a lot of parents with school aged children. I overheard the family behind us a bit, and the father kept telling his daughter “I can’t believe you wanted to go to school today”.

  23. Yeah, on a similar note I've read and heard people say that Hinch shouldn't be up for Manager of the Year cause it's not "Manager of the month" but if the Tigers were in the exact same situation except they went on this current run in say June or July nobody would be saying that, instead they would just look at their record for the year and how he took a young team with a depleted rotation to the playoffs.

  25. I had to look up "Wite" since the game thread says we are playing the "Wite Sox". wite responsibility for a crime, fault, or misfortune; blame. Makes perfect sense. They are responsible for their record this season which is criminal. Nice job on naming the thread!

  26. I won’t lie: I’m a little nervous. I just saw the White Sox win their last two. Yes, they made some boneheaded plays that would embarrass a high school team, but that have a clear motive here, too, and I worry just a little that a hubristic young team might look past them, at least tonight. It’s up to A.J. to keep them on track.

  28. and thank you for making me think of that wonderful movie in context of this team.

  29. But I was told "nothing is written" by that movie. And by that I mean the fate of this Tigers team is all bound up in our team's will and moral courage.

  39. A lot of Tiger fans seem to think that the Tigers beating the White Sox is automatic. I disagree and I'm a little nervous about how some think it's 2 automatic wins this weekend. It is not. White Sox are playing desperately to avoid 121 losses. Granted, the Tigers are better than the Angels.
