Islam is at least if not more homophobic and patriarchal than RW Christianity. I would easily believe that much of Arab opposition to Dems which is couched in terms of Gaza if really culturally based, because it's a lot more PC to be pro Gaza than anti-gay (etc). To be anti-Dem over Gaza doesn't even make any sense since Trump is way more firmiy in Bibi's pocket than Harris.2 points

I will dispute that McKinstry provides no value to the roster. 0.8 bWAR, 1.1 fWAR last year. Perfectly fine for a role player. This may not show up in the raw batting stats, but he was a plus plus baserunner and plus fielder. And the last time I deep dived WAR metrics, versatility wasn't really factored in. The fact that you can bounce him between 3-4 positions in a single game allows you to maximize matchups elsewhere. I'm not sure if there is a place for him on the 2025 team. The bar could be higher, and his modest raise in arbitration could play a role. But to say he has no value is not true.2 points

Harris campaign needs to cut an ad with Dan Campbell. Ford Field is chanting Kamala, and in the locker room, Campbell tosses her the game ball and says you’re good enough for Detroit Kamala Harris. The team then demands a speech and she breaks down the huddle with her closing message.1 point

If one theme of this season is the MCDC revenge tour, they will definitely want to avenge their Thanksgiving day whipping by the Packers. Detroit went in a little complacent and let Jordan Love have a coming out party. The Lions got outplayed but they also got outcoached. It will be fun to see how they try to avenge that loss.1 point

Agreed. I feel as though a lot of women don't realize how recently things that they now take for granted (getting a credit card on her own comes to mind) would have been denied them.1 point

I agree, if feels so 1960ish. But don't forget how long it took for suffrage in this country. And as recent as the mid to late 70s there were occupations who were very reluctant or restricted the # of women hired1 point

There was a truck driver I knew that said Obama was going to declare himself dictator and refuse to leave office. This was when Obama was in office. I guess I don't have to tell you that he is a Trumper now. The irony.1 point

Have said it before, but it cannot go ignored the fact that Whitmer (while winning the state by 11 points in 2022) did close to 20 points worse with this demo than Biden did in 2020.1 point

What I find interesting is that polling in red states where not a lot of polling is done, such as Nebraska and Alaska, shows Harris doing well. District level and local polling in swing states show Harris doing well. Down ballot races in swing states show Democrats doing well. These were all red flags in 2016. We are supposed to believe now that she is overperforming everywhere except the top line swing states?1 point

Stating the obvioud but The Lions also benefited greatly by Goff's resurgence. If the Lions were forced to use an early pick on a QB like they would have If Goff didn't turn it around the landscape would look much different.1 point

But there is still another piece to it. You have to hit on your picks, and that's where it's not so easy to duplicate what Holmes has done. The lions have had lot of draft capital at times in the past because of losing seasons, but never used it as well as Holmes has.1 point

Buckle up because MAGA is releasing a ton of polls today. That’s how you know they are losing and that rally in New York was a disaster.1 point

To all Republicans who are condemning the rhetoric from the MSG rally: are you really only noticing that Drumpf is a racist now? Where exactly have you been for the past 40-50 years? This is who he is. This is who he will always be.1 point

It makes no sense, they're building around a pass rusher in his late 20s who will likely be increasingly unhappy as they wallow in misery in the coming years with no real direction as his value degrades with more term coming off his contract and him getting older. The right move would be to sell high now and accumulate futures for the rebuild but....Raiders gonna Raider so.... In terms of the Lions, Holmes needs to address the pass rush issue. I think the coverage was more an issue than the pass rush as Rudolph was carving them up early but they can't go into the Green Bay game with practice squad guys coming off the edge and no depth behind it. All of Hutch, Davenport, Barnes and Paschal are out. I believe strongly in the culture and next man up thing but this severe deficiency at edge is going to catch up with them sometime, it needs to be addressed ideally this week. They don't need a Crosby/Garrett level edge, just some viable NFL level guys.1 point

I am feeling this. The amount of benefit to media from a close, nervous race outweighs the public good from a tranquil and non-violent election and post-election. Plus polls are not capturing angry women.1 point

I don't believe polls at all. First of all, they don't really have a feel for young voters AT ALL. Remember they all predicted a Red Wave in 2022. All of them. Nate Silver's gut tells him Trump will win. Well, he missed wildly in 2022. He has PTSD from 2016. Plus, I think he might be scared of retaliation (I don't think Bezos is scared of retaliation, I think he made a backroom deal for billions). I honestly don't know how Silver even remains in the game at this point. He hems and haws like a weatherman saying 30% chance of rain (that means they don't know and 30% covers their ass both ways). All those polls in the news are designed for one thing - to generate clicks. They're designed to scare one side or the other. The youth vote will be much stronger this time around than in 2020. Plus I really don't see a lot of people who voted for Biden flipping to Trump, but I get a sense it's a far different story for Trump voters flipping to Harris. Let them have their little Klan rallies. That's got Corey Lewindowski's fingerprints all over it. Let the comedian (nobody has heard of) say that stuff so Trump doesn't have to. They probably loved it on Staten Island, but look at Staten Island's record on race relations. Oh wait, there is none. Staten Island voted for Curtis Sliwa for crying out loud, they would vote for disgraced Rudy if he could run for Mayor again. They'd vote for David Duke.1 point

Another thing about multiple posiion players is that they don't play enough at one position to get reliable defensive numbers. So, you can never be very sure about their WAR. I am not sure how to best measure versatility value. Anyway, I think he's fine as a utility player. You just don't want him getting too many at bats.1 point

I don't know what the future is for the GOP if he loses... I'm pretty sure I know what it looks like if he wins. If someone doesn't like the direction he's taking the party right now, this is the moment of choosing.1 point

Right - It takes two to tango and the exit of both Patterson and Coleman Young leaves a completely different public dynamic at work. For every suburbanite who hates the city, there is at least one more who pulls for its recovery. And as a practical matter, the resolution of the city's bankruptcy has gotten the city out of the news cycle as an economic crisis hanging over the state where it was for a couple of decades.1 point

Harris does not speak as well as Obama or Bill Clinton, but she speaks better than Biden or Trump. Her ability to speak is fine. Her problem is that she answers almost every question with something about Trump. Now, preventing Trump from getting into power again may be the most important issue, but you are not going to get people to vote that way.1 point

Newspapers have been issuing editorials since before the printing press was invented. A discerning reader can tell the difference between the news section and the opinion pages. The fact that the owner of the paper overruled his editorial board should be News. Bezos capitulated to Trump. That is news.1 point
