  1. Ha-Seong Kim is the Korean Tony Phillips! He is definitely someone I'd like to see the Tigers pursue.

  2. Do you know what I want most for future elections? Actual debates on the policies between candidates devoid of personal attacks, straw men, stupid nicknames, and descriptions of, er, personal anatomy. While I was never a fan of Bush Jr, he at least was a skilled debater.

  3. How about this, Winfield was drafted by four teams in three different sports (MLB, NBA, ABA, NFL). I always feared him as he was a Yankee and had that enormously hulking stature and he was just a beast at the plate when I really got into baseball as a kid. But you listen to him in interviews and he seems quite engaging and personable rather than threatening.

  4. Ha-Seong Kim of the Padres declined his player option and is now a FA. Could be a potential target for the Tigers, he's a right handed bat that can play all over the infield and will only be 29 next season.

  5. This. I grew up around a clique of supremely competent women who were my mother's friends, many of whom were in the work force doing the work to keep the nation going while their their men were off at war, who while not necessarily unhappy, still all knew exactly how much more they could have been given the opportunity to do more than raise their children after the war ended, many of whom were the leading edge of the movement of women back into the workforce in the 60s-70s.

  7. the pistons are currently down 30 halfway through the 3rd. their identity is "suck". i'm being a smart ass and snarky, but they have to rebuild this entire team. you just sat through the most incompetent rebuild in nba history. you went from bad to the worst team in franchise history FOUR YEARS INTO THE REBUILD. its going to take a while to get out kf this. cade is a keeper. ivey might be. but that's it. ausar is a good defensive prospect who isnt playing. holland is a role player glue guy. duren is about to be an overpaid andre drummond. thats it. i think theyre ****ed until gores sells the team but they might get lucky and get a #1 or #2 pick out of this that could save them. if they dont, they will be a ****ty team no matter how many "hard nose" vets they bring in to "change the culture." they had a chance to change the culture and hired a nepobaby in jb bickerstaff. they are ****ed. their only hope is to get a franchise player to play with cade. in other words, they HAVE to lose. that's the only chance they have unless gores sells.

  8. Not directed at you individually, so please don't take this as such.... There is tons of help on the ground in NC....and in VA, and in TN, and in SC, and in GA, and in FL. Any assertion otherwise is complete and total BS. I haven't seen my family in three weeks because I'm on the ground providing support. I know.

  15. Kim had surgery on his throwing shoulder, might be out until May (June?). insanely risky to sign a guy long term whose value relies so much on his defense coming off a shoulder injury, but could be an opportunity there

  18. I don’t think it was staged. Never bought into it. Too many agencies and people would have to be involved for it to work. That kind of thing just isn’t possible in reality. I don’t believe in JFK conspiracies either. Too many things outside the control of planners had to fall into place. I could spend hours explaining why. It’s easy to look back at an event and speculate but that assumes all the events happening naturally that led up to it.

  19. In Halberstam’s book The Fifties, he talks about this. Depression. Drug use separation from their families as with suburban expansion that often meant their parents were back “in the city”. It wasn’t leave it to beaver or Ozzie and Harriet. (He uses the real Nelson family as a nice rebuttal to that alleged utopia. Ozzie was a real prick).

  21. Incorrect. Monetization of debt starts with spending. Spending starts in congress. The Fed couldn't monetize debt unless debt is issued (government bonds of some type). Wall Street benefits no matter what as they are the exchange that handles the transactions (bond auctions) and get the money first. All these inept assholes that's inhabited congress for the last X amount of years are at fault, including the two dip****s we have today.

  22. My dad's father was a horrifically abusive man. He would beat his sons down to the raw skin and make them bleed. He would make them do things like kneel down on bb pellets. He would pick them up by their necks and punch them in the stomach in a fit of rage. If they didn't finish their dinner, he'd literally knock them across the face off the chair and onto the floor and then send them to bed hungry for the rest of the week. At dinner, he'd make them eat things that no kid wants to eat like liver and onions or limburger cheese just because he could be an asshole like that, then hit them when they predictably didn't finish it. He was no better to my grandmother either. In-fact, he was so bad that she pulled a gun on him once while he was sleeping ala Karen Hill in Goodfellas. If it hadn't been for a garbage truck driving by to wake him up, she'd have shot him. In the 1950s, that was accepted as a father "doing his fatherly duties to discipline his children" and a husband "being a man in control of his house." Child abuse went largely unnoticed or not punished by the law if it was noticed because that's just dad being dad. The same thing goes for spousal abuse, that largely occurred towards the wife. Not to mention women couldn't open bank accounts, get credit cards, hold most professions, and on. So to the women in this video, you need to reconsider and relearn history because 1950 and June Cleaver isn't what you think it is.

  23. I've been on the fence about responding to this kind of post. The response I've often heard of "You want the violence! You just want to be right!" is one I've heard multiple times, and not just about the possibility of post-election violence. I don't know or care if he said the assassination attempt was staged. I did hear speculation of that when it first happened, and most if not all people who suggested it dismissed this after learning more about it. I do know that he's close enough to DC that he could very well have been close to the action on January 6th. And warning people that violence in response to the election is possible is not the same as hoping that violence occurs just to prove that he's 'right,' or because he actually wants the violence to occur. The fears some of us have that there will be violence are unfortunately justified. I don't know a single one of us that wouldn't love to be proved wrong.

  31. If Cade and Ivey are keepers, then they don't to rebuild the entire team. Maybe that was just the snarkiness speaking... I do agree with your overall point about Gores. How many franchises in the four major sports overcome bad ownership? I'm sure it happens but it's rare.

  32. Seeing something from Duren I never saw before. He just doesn't look interested. I know I know, how can I tell if someone is interested or not. I can't. But his body language doesn't scream he wants to be there. I can't believe that I know they lost by 30 and I'm still watching this. That Knicks 5 out offense is really nice. Give me a 7 game series of them playing Boston.

  33. Which is why you’ve got to hope that “new” (& existing) voters got the message that they not only need to pull the lever for the Democratic candidate for President, but to PLEASE not leave that voting booth without voting for all the congressional or Senate Democrats running this elect cycle, too. Please DON’T neglect to vote for those other candidates.

  35. My ex-brother in law was(maybe still is?) a commercial real estate agent in NYC. He knew contractors that had worked on Trump projects in the city that were never paid. And here in NJ, again with contractors doing work way back on his casino in Atlantic City… again, stiffed. When brought to court, his lawyers would delay delay delay (sound familiar?) and the contractor couldn’t financially afford to keep pursuing him for payment. This is what he’s done to working people for DECADES. It’s the way he’s always “done business”. He has always been a crook. How can people justify all the entities over the years that he just doesn’t pay. Even during these elections, his campaigns continue to stiff venues, municipalities that spend for police protection, etc. Why/How can you support this??? Especially if you’re someone who works hard for every penny… why would you be okay with someone who thinks you are a fool.

  36. There was a ‘Concert for Carolina’ held about a week ago involving Luke Combs (Asheville native) and Eric Church (Hickory native) to raise money for the victims of the flooding in western N.C. It was reported that over $25 million was raised. Eric Church has committed to building 100 houses to assist in the building back effort. As a lifelong Tar Heel, I’m very proud of the local efforts to step up and get involved. Homeboys

  37. I should add. Yesterday's visit to Duke was good. Everything is basically stable which is all I can ask for. I'm not on O2, exercising as prescribed 2-3 times a week and my doctors are happy. If anything they are concerned I may have lost too much weight in recent months. It was also a good chat with the head of the transplant team which put things into better perspective. To quote Monty Python "I'm not dead yet"

  38. I wouldn't be surprised if the flood of misinformation was not as well received in North Carolina as people were assuming at the time. We give the actors who push this sort of misinformation a lot of power when we automatically assume that everything they do is effective

  42. Quick switch from housing cost to health care. Personal note, I was diagnosed with ILD (Interstitial Lung Disease) about three years ago. Was told eventually I would probably require a transplant. The doctor also prescribed a drug that run over $15,000 a month without insurance. With Medicare and additional insurance it still was running nearly $700 once I hit maximum deductions. Back in January the out of pocket price dropped to $O. if I need a transplant pre insurance costs would run a $ or more. Fortunately Medicare and private insurance would probably lower out of pocket costs to housing (6 months to a year) I doubt that would be happening under Trump and Republicans Yes, I voted my pocketbook
