All the live-in home health aides who took care of my mother for eight years were immigrants - mostly from Kenya, one from Haiti. I fully trusted them to live in my house and take care of my mom.5 points

I was in the Vikings forum and one person’s reaction to the Smith trade was the rich got richer. Just step back to think about that. Never in the Super Bowl era have the Lions been considered the rich.4 points

It took a little more time voting this morning due to not checking a straight Democratic ticket. Even though the position doesn’t matter, there was absolutely no way that I was casting a vote for Denise Ilitch as UM Trustee. When the family chooses to step up and invest back in the teams they are essentially holding hostage, I will choose to support them again.3 points

People who are proud of not voting usually bluff their way through life with attitude and confidence because that’s all they know and they think they’re above it all. Nothing can ever please them or propel them out of their bunker of conceit. Attitude and confidence are the two most easily available elements in the human universe. Everywhere from boardrooms and back alleys to battlefields is littered with the debris caused by attitude and confidence.2 points

On another note, hopefully the right wing ads I'm seeing on this page will go away too.2 points

drink the martini through a straw ! I go to the movies on election night. Have done this since 2008 and the one time it went sideways (2016) I did not go to the movies. Trying to figure out what to go see. Slim pickins movie-wise. That movie Here with de-aged Tom Hanks and Robin Wright looks awful. Maybe Conclave?2 points

I am very forgiving generally. So long as you’re not doing crazy stuff like gambling in a company hotel, taking a prescribed medication without telling your employer, or not getting a CPL and storing a weapon under your seat with your CPL carrying brother in a car, you’re alright in my book.1 point

But what about all those Trump people that silently support him and don't scream it or have giant flags in their yards or trucks. Gotta be a big number there. Because it's rare to find a Trump supporter who has to let the world know loudly.1 point

There seems be a lot of info about heavy turnout. That’s the one thing Kamala has done well, she has gotten the base excited where Biden couldn’t. Marry that to trumps team losing momentum (shocker that after nine freaking years people start to get tired of the same song) and this might not be as close as those herding polls suggested.1 point

Which Clark County? I assume people know Springfield, OH is Clark County.1 point

It is kind of upsetting that we're depending on high turnout from women, when men will benefit from a Harris presidency at least as much. Steady infrastructure spending, reliable funding for such departments as the NIH and USDA, and economists that agree that Harris would be better for the economy? Sounds like a win whether you're a man or woman. And.... just because women want to retain their rights, doesn't mean we want men to lose theirs and doesn't mean we think men are evil. Sigh...1 point

well, that is the thing. If they could draw a random sample, it wouldn't matter if the population has changed because all that would show up in any truly random sample. But they can't get a random sample in the US anymore (they could come pretty close in the post WWII period using landlines and fixed geography area codes), but that's completely gone now.....) so they have to use a model, and the model has to be constructed from the past, so if the population changes, the model can't possibly be adjusted for it with any certainty until after the next election - at least other than by pure guess work. What the pollsters are doing that is dishonest, is to continue to claim their polls have the same validity/accuracy level when they no longer do. Some of them will make the right guesses on their model and get the result, and then claim they are good pollsters, but in most cases that will be a fallacy. They simply made luckier assumptions about how to massage their model - i.e they have a certain expertise, but not necessarily as survey takers.1 point

I don't think the 86 wins was a mirage. The last two months most definitely was. Before the trade deadline the Tigers were hampered by a few injuries and young player growing pains that depressed the W-L record. If the Tigers had had KC health all season long I suspect they would have finished close to 86 wins even without the super heater in the closing months. I definitely want them to bolster the roster, but if they only tinker with it I wouldn't be surprised if they finish around 85 wins again.1 point

I’ve said it before, but I think Goff has a little Drew Brees in him. Elite accuracy with adequate arm strength who likes to rip those intermediate passes. Campbell was around for the end of the Brees era, and this team really looks like this Saints teams. They had a great duo at RB with Kamara and Ingram, speed guy with Cooks, and the high volume pass catcher in Thomas. I don’t believe all were on the team at the same time, but you can see a lot of that Saints offense on the Lions.1 point

Yeah I think we've seen over the last few games that we haven't gotten a lot of pressure on the QB and we need to hArden that defensive line up. Our secondary isn't bad but give any receiver/QB all day to throw and they'll eventually get someone open. More pressure will be a Key moving forward.1 point
-
If they add someone like Arden Key, that defensive line suddenly looks pretty solid.1 point

A former member of this community who had a job writing about politics, a right winger for sure, put it out there on FB that he didn’t vote for either major party candidate as he found both morally unacceptable. A close family member of mine told my wife that while she wouldn’t reveal who she voted for, that it differs from her husband who I am pretty sure voted for him. No this isn’t a situation where she can’t tell him or anything like that. They’re good people. She just wanted to keep it to herself. She’s very religious. Stories like that are probably amplified everywhere.1 point

No drinking tonight unfortunately, wife is having knee replacement surgery tomorrow. At least she can go in tomorrow and have enough pain pills to last a few days. As a former reporter and newsroom manager she'll watch returns before heading to bed. I'll do mindless doomscrolling. In honor of the election I'm wearing my "Madison" T-Shirt quoting part of Federalist 51. Looks like I spoke too soon. Last night while watching the Food Network I saw a disgusting Drumpf commercial filled with lies about immigrants, crime, and the economy. I feel sick. As I've said before, I work with a lot of immigrants that Drumpf likes to demonize-from Latin America and Haiti. They are good people, and hard workers. You know what part of the MSG rally chilled me to the bone as much as the Puerto Rico joke? Miller and his "America is for America only!" speech.1 point

Elon evidently posted that if elected, Harris will take X away from him and bring back twitter. If she did say that, that would be another reason for me to vote for her.1 point
